richmond500:How is is it wrong for Wike to highlight what a huge failure Aregbesola was, in 8 years as Interior Minister, in comparison to his successor Tunji-Ojo who had delivered countless solutions in 1 year the unbelievably incompetent Aregbe will never be able to do even if in office for 50 years? Is it not right to show Nigerians factually that they must never swap unprecedented success with abject failure? Aregbe and co tout themselves as "saviours". Should their sordid record.and gross failings in public office not be exposed so Nigerians know to avoid them? Wike's message is timely and spot-on because in politics, same as shopping in the market, it should always be "caveat emptor". Buyers beware. Nigerians should not use their thumbprint to go and buy bad and rotten market for themselves. |

The funny thing is, many of the politicians in ADC have been in power in one shape or another at State or federal level over the past 30 years or more and they did nothing. Now, some of the common people who have been clamouring for progress for a long time are the same people saying they want the failed politicians to return to power ![]() It's incredible. |

Lifestylecom:Great and issue-based comment from Wike. I have made this same point countless times. How can those who say they are on a rescue mission be far inferior and hideously incompetent in comparison to those they wish to remove from office? Aregbe is a prime example. Unless we wish to lie to ourselves, Aregbe heaped misery, tears and pain on Nigerians in 8 years as Interior Minister. Woeful public administrator and one of the worst ever who should not even show his face in Nigerian politics again, if he has shame, considering how Tunji-Ojo has disgraced him. Tunji-Ojo, in a year only, reversed all the damage Aregbe did and started by clearing a backlog of hundreds of thousands of un-issued passport. We shouted tirelessly for e-gate that Ghana has had for several years, and the world has been using for two decades now, yet Aregbe feigned ignorance so his boys and girls in immigration can continue "meet and greet" extortion of Nigerians and foreigners at our international airports. Today we have e-gates and much more courtesy of Tunji-Ojo. These are the issues Nigerians must focus on because citizen of serious nation of the world, where politics is always about effective service delivery for the people, do not swap spectacular success for abject failure. Wike is a fine example too. The way he moves may not be to everyone's taste but no one can deny, in two.years, he is already the best FCT Minister ever. These are the reality that should matter to Nigerians and not whether Wike has beef with Atiku or whether Aregbe mocks Tinubu publicly. We should never lose sight of what matters if a politically sophisticated people who judge political leaders on what truly matters. I.e their performance and impact in our lives |

This young minister transformed passport processing within and outside Nigeria. He has also tranformed the travel experience for those travelling to and from abroad through the Murtala Muhammed Airport. He did these and more in a little over a year. Mr Aregbesola was the Minister in that same ministry for 8 years when Nigerians went through hell to get a passport or renew one. 8 years o. Can you believe that some Nigerians now believe Mr Aregbesola will be one of Nigeria's saviours if only they can just vote in ADC in 2027. Also, instead of Minister Umahi, they prefer Minister Dino Melaye. ![]() |

Wike that was boasting yesterday is already jittery. All be cause of "Andrew Liver Salt" coalition. Wike ooo, Tinubu ooo, Tunji-Ojo oo, they will chop half cooked bean in Kuje prison Leave matter for Mathias. So for making digital passport, Tuni Ojo has become a performer. How much was Aregbesola accused of stealing? Has Tunji-Ojo refunded the half a billion he stole? They will all go to jail come 2027

DeLaRue:Well-said. Many Nigerians are incapable of focusing on what matter because of nothing other than ethno-religious and sectional bigotry against others. Imagine Dino Melaye, of 50 Ferraris and 20 Lamborghinis, now posing as a "saviour" on a mission to "rescue" Nigerians? |

DeLaRue:Please, read the attached screen-shot S L O W L Y. Tunji-Ojo used media to taunt what Aregbesola initiated across 33 states. Even NIN was Aregbesola initiative. Because Thiefunji-Ojo was trumpeted by local SW media, he has become a hero to Wike. Come 2027, they will vomit both land, money, be it in Abuja and Rivers. We will clean them dry.

DeLaRue:Bro, na so we see am OOO. To me, as a fairly exposed person, I firmly believe Nigeria host the most warped and damaged electorate in the world. A people who can never think critically to see the big picture and forever remain prone to whitewashing the images of failures of 8 years (Obi, Malami and Aregbe for example) to be touting them as messiahs simply because they hate the ethno-religious, politcal or sectional background of those in office never minding that they are doing a great job. Nigeria is a mentally-draining nation because of the aberrant character of Nigerians. |

Amitex:Oga please stop this madness. You are not intelligent enough to be practicing spin and propaganda, using subjective and outrightly deceptive reportage, written by compromised minions, against real experience Nigerians went through. Is it me who, out of frustration, gave up trying to get a passport under Aregbe, yet got same in two weeks under Tunji-Ojo, you want to use your rudimentary BS spin on? Do you even know how Tunji-Ojo has revolutionised passport issuance in Nigerian commisions worldwide whereas under Argebe it was always fights, noise and virtually all out war at the Nigerian high commision in london for example? E-Gates and many other measures nko? All this in under 2 years while wasteman Aregbe only ignobly took cartel 'cash out' operation of the Ministry of interior to a crazy level in 8 years at the expense of ordinary Nigerians. Guy park well. This is not a joke. Stop the redundant and offensive spin. Sometimes it is classy to remain silent. |

If you do not know Aregbesola spent only 4 years as Interior Minister, how would you know what he has done? See your life https://www.nairaland.com/8468014/campaign-calumny-aregbesolas-achievements-interior Lately, it has become fashionable for some politically-blinded individuals to rewrite history in a desperate attempt to tarnish the legacy of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, the same man they once praised for transforming Osun State into a modern city. Reading comments here, Some now maliciously claim he “did nothing” as Minister of Interior, while others go as far as misrepresenting his tenure as Governor, saying he “paid half salaries for 8 years.” This deliberate misinformation stems not from truth but from hate and the politics of envy. Let us be clear: Aregbesola was the first governor in Nigeria to pay workers a 13th-month salary, an extra month of pay, a feat that was unprecedented. The “half salary” claim is a gross mischaracterization. What actually happened was a modulated salary structure during a difficult 14 months period (not 8 years), when the Nigerian economy was hit by a severe downturn due to a crash in global oil prices. During this period: Workers from Level 1 to 8 received full salaries. Those from Level 9 upward received modulated payments (not half), based on a transparent formula. No political appointee (not even Aregbesola himself) received salaries. The salary modulation was agreed upon by labour leaders after extensive consultation, not imposed. Aregbesola started paying the arrears before he left office. That is not wickedness, it is sacrifice, transparency, and leadership in hard times. And if they are so quick to forget his leadership in Osun, they are also trying to erase the historic impact he made as Minister of Interior between August 2019 and May 2023, simply because he is no longer politically aligned with their principal. But facts do not lie, and data does not bend to hate. 1. Unmatched Legacy in Passport Reforms During his time as Minister of Interior, Aregbesola recorded a historic achievement in passport issuance through the Nigeria Immigration Service. In less than four years: Over 4.5 million passports were issued, the highest ever in Nigeria’s history. 2019 saw 470,000 passports issued, despite starting mid-year. In 2020, amidst COVID-19 disruptions, the number rose to over 780,000. 2021 recorded more than 1 million passports issued. 2022 peaked with over 1.6 million passports. As of May 2023, 660,000+ passports had already been produced. 2. Reform-Driven Achievements That Speak Volumes 1. Expansion of Passport Front Offices: He brought passport services closer to Nigerians with new offices in Daura, Katsina, Zaria, Auchi, Oyo, Alimosho, Ilesa, and more, drastically reducing congestion and travel stress. 2. Digital Transformation: He introduced online appointment and tracking systems, reducing human contact and eliminating inefficiency. 3. Elimination of Cash Payments: All payments were made electronic, a direct blow to corruption and extortion in passport offices. 4. Standardized Processing Time: Under his watch, it was clearly defined — 3 weeks for renewals and 6 weeks for new passports — restoring trust in the system. 5. Infrastructure and Staff Upgrade: He renovated and upgraded facilities across the country, and immigration staff received new training to enhance service delivery. 6. Diaspora Access: Nigerians in the UK, US, UAE, and elsewhere gained faster access through retooled consular passport systems and new machines. 7. Enhanced E-Passport: Aregbesola introduced Nigeria’s most secure passport yet, featuring biometric tech, ICAO compliance, and 10-year validity options. Beyond Passports – Other Reforms His impact also extended across the Ministry of Interior: Correctional Reforms: Decongesting prisons and pushing for non-custodial sentencing. Fire Service Upgrade: Revamping the Federal Fire Service with better tools and training. Border Security: Enhanced surveillance and infrastructural improvements. Civil Defence Empowerment: Strengthening the NSCDC’s pipeline protection and community security roles. Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola’s record, both as a Governor and a Federal Minister, speaks for itself. Those shouting “he did nothing” are not driven by truth, they are driven by political bitterness and blind loyalty. But facts are stubborn. He paid 13th-month salaries when many states couldn’t pay one, navigated Osun through economic storms with transparency, and delivered the most significant passport reforms Nigeria has ever seen. Try as they might, they cannot rewrite history. Aregbesola’s legacy is written in the lives he touched, the systems he fixed, and the standards he raised, not in the noise of haters. Posters above are defending Aregbesola. The man who presided over Osun for 8 solid years and destroyed the place before even Oyetola of the same party did more damages. Then, Aregbesola went to the interior ministry and did nothing. Boom. They are bringing out Facebook writeups (no major nigerian newspaper carried his achievements ) that he did all the things Tunji-Ojo did. Some people are just something else. Democracy isn't for Nigerians. FACT! |
