TheAdvocate:I called a delta state CRU unit and he asked me to go to the station and call him when I get there. But I confided in a friend to follow me and he said the police that extorted me would deny me, argue they've never seen or met me or seen my car ever before. He said because I didn't transferred any money into their account but used a POS to withdraw the cash I used in setting them. Also, they might detain me or the person I called and talk to on the phone would not pick my call anymore when it's time as I do not know him directly, I would have been at the station already, I'm so scared to go. Please what do you suggest, please reply please. |

Wanted to reply this thread since yesterday But I was busy and boom it's already on the 9th page Back to the matter. OP As long as you have done a new plate number with proper change of ownership. You have no business carrying particulars of the previous owners A change of ownership reflects the car belongs to you and you only So moving forward Keep only Proof/certificate of ownership Driver license Insurance Yearly vehicle license up to date showing correct chassis number and engine number. In addition to avoid all doubts from any police,. Use 5750 run ECMR,once your vehicle is registered on that portal with a valid certificate, No Nigeria police can tell you crap.. In addition, No law states in Nigeria you can't drive another person's vehicle If there is an agreement between you and the previous owner to keep there plates and continue registration in there name, All that matters to you and the police is you are driving someone else's vehicle, What you need do is to ensure the person is always reachable via calls, but it still always better to perfect a change of ownership. |

I see King in your name op but truly you're not behaving like one. First of all, I'll ask, have you gotten your complete car documents? I.e have you changed the car papers successfully to your name? If you haven't, then is the existing papers (the papers you bought the car with) expired? If the existing car documents in the previous owners' name is complete and not expired, no single policeman anywhere has ANY right to stop you for any reason. And if the previous papers are expired, then straightaway go to the licencing office in your area and do your change of ownership and obtain your new vehicular papers in your name. For avoidance of doubt, these are the ONLY papers a policeman is entitled to require from you at any checkpoint: Driver's license. Vehicle License. Proof of ownership certificate or change of ownership certificate as the case may be. Insurance. Plate number purchase receipt Certificate of roadworthiness Tinted permit (if you drive tinted glasses) Once you have these set of papers in your car, all current (not expired) you're not entitled to give any policeman a dime. Pls this is Nigeria, everyone at the checkpoint is hungry and looking for the novice that can pay for their lunch. Don't make yourself the unfortunate novice. Wise up and man up! |

Iceking1:This is just an embarrassment and another way created to extort people Since you have all documents and except the one they requested, even is you have that, they will create a name for another request I think at this stage, you need the contact of the original owner of the car so that when next they stop you and ask for irrelevant documents, ask the m to speak with the first owner as he is aware that you are the one that bought the car he sold at the car slot |

ogbiwa:Good morning sir, I have all of the above papers and documents that you made mentioned above, every single one of them. When I got the car, I did a new plate number last month, so my documents are still fresh, I have all of the documents you mentioned above, Including CMR. And all of them are in my name. |

frozen70:I did told them that I wanted to call who sold the car to me, but they refused, the didn't give me a single space to make that call. And yes, you're absolutely right. What you stated Is exactly what my friend told me, he said that if I had gotten the "authority to sell" document, they would have created another one, just as you rightly said here. |

Iceking1:You don't need it. Below are the only documents you need to move around with and show to Police, FRSC, VIO etc 1) Vehicle Licence 2) Certificate of Road Worthiness 3) Proof of Ownership Certificate 4) Insurance 5) Allocation of Plate Number 6) Tinted Permit (if glasses are tinted) 7) Drivers Licence Select only those ones, make photocopies, staple them together and present to them. 8 ) Custom papers ... (for brand new/Tokunbo vehicles). . |

Iceking1:Be bold next time, if they insist on taking you to police station go with them after all you didn't steal the car That will be an opportunity to tell the those that stole 80k from you and tell them the exact spot it happened and insist on seeing the DPO Once you are allowed to see the DPO politely explain in details what you have passed through from his men and you just want to let him know that you are going to the media to say everything that happens with his boys on the road and now for them to bring you to the station And that you will explain again to social media how you insisted on reporting the matter to the DPO You know what, this last one will bring am end to all those nonsense because he will not want his station to be on the news for negative news and he will talk to his men Get his contact make friend with him and anyone that stops you, tell the you will call. Mr DPO by mentioning his name and phone contact they will leave you immediately because he ma have warmed his boys earlier |

Shikini:When I did a new place number, all the above mentioned documents came with It except for tinted permit because my car isn't tinted, also drivers license because I have already got It since last year. So, the papers are all stapled together. But I still kept the receipt they used in getting the car on a car stand separately, and the change of ownership I signed with the seller the very day I got the car. As they have used these two documents to take money from me in the past before, on my immediate previous car, on two different occasions, 30k and 50k respectively. Whenever they go through my papers and confirmed It that it's correct, they normally ask for these two to extort me, so I normally move with them to avoid such a scenario, until days ago when they went through my papers and demanded for change of ownership between the very first user of the car and the immediate past owner that sold to me, and authority to sell, which I haven't heard of before. Which made me made a payment of 80,000 before they handed over my car keys back to me. I have reported the matter on twitter, and I'm trying to get In touch with the DPO of that station. |

frozen70:Thank you so very much, I did reported the matter on Twitter and I'm on the verge of getting my money back, I got a contact of on ASP on that particular station yesterday, and he asked me to come and meet me today, with the assurance that I will be getting my money back in full. |

Iceking1:Then, get an affidavit & Police report. The two cost #5,000 at Ikeja beside LASU Teaching Hospital. Go along with the purchase receipt and change of ownership you signed with the seller. That is, if you live in Lagos. . |

Iceking1:Beautiful. Now do this. Photocopy all the papers I listed above, including your driver's licence. Staple them together and keep in your car. Keep the originals at home. The next time a policeman stops and asks for your papers, sit calmly in your car and give him the papers. When he's done, maximum he'll ask to see your boot. There's nothing wrong with that. Open the boot. But do everything calmly and confidently, not nervous or in a rush. After he's done with your boot, he'll hand you back your papers and either beg you for money or ask you to go. If he begs, you can give of you want and don't give if you don't want. If he makes ANY other claim to keep you there further, he's already infringing and doing nonsense and he knows it. Speak calmly but confidently. Stand on your right. Never hand over your key to them, whatever they say or do. Never show weakness or fear to a Nigerian policeman, else he'll exploit it. A policeman has no right to a dime from you if your car papers are intact |

Iceking1:That's a good move and if they deny you already know where the POS operator is because am sure is the same location After that they will stay clear from your car |

Iceking1:The police will deny you and the CRU guy will not be able to help further. I suggest you let it go but be careful to have your phone recorder on anytime the police stops you. This way, you can record the audio conversation with them and the POS guy. The audio recorder always pause when there is no ongoing conversation. |
