Debbieeeeeee:
She submitted May 20th, application received May 21, first case update was June 10th second was June 30 and issued July 2nd.

We should ask those who received a 221(g) how long it took for them to get their passports back. This way, we can better estimate when yours is likely to return.

I don’t think going to the embassy changes anything as they'll not let you in without an appointment, the collection office are the ones to be pressured.
Your passport will not be with you this weekend. When you receive your 221g email which can take a week from now, your passport will then be back with Ois the next day or two. Then you’ll have to pay for expedited pick up which would be the next day

Ah they’re now taking for people to pickup their passports! Ah na wa o.
Re: Usa Visit Visa Part 5 by naivasha:
Hi, allow me to share my experience maybe it will help you prepare ahead.

My last US visa expired Mar 2024. In Sept 2024 I put in an application for renewal which was due to be via IW. The earliest date I was able to see at that time was May 30 2025. On that day I dropped off my passport at OIS. Three weeks later I received an email (221g) informing me I was no longer eligible for IW and told to log into AVITS and book an appointment for a physical interview.

The explanation given to me by OIS was that since Dec 2024, to be eligible for IW the previous visa expiry should not be more than 12 months, prior to renewal. March 2024 (when my previous visa expired) to May 2025 (when I submitted my passport) exceeds this so therefore a physical interview is now required.

This explanation makes sense to me; but whether it will apply to everyone or not I don't know. Hopefully it gives you a bit on insight. All the best in your application.

Ifemeze:
Hello everyone. My interview waiver eligibility will expire by July 24. But I got a drop off date for August 10. Is it possible to change to in person appointment without losing the date? Since it is after my eligibility expires
Re: Usa Visit Visa Part 5 by naivasha: 9:23am On Jul 03, 2025
Only if you want the passport back right away. The free pickup option is still there but it means waiting for about one week.

I will ask my mom to wait; one week isn’t a big deal since she has already waited six weeks. 😂 Thank you for the update!

Thanks for the response. Canceling the pending appointment and starting a new one solved it. However, after payment and trying to fix a date, another error occured. When picking the date, it shows an error that it failed. Is this something you can assist with?. Thanks.

You are having difficulty in making payment and generating code on the avits portal in your profile not in Nigeria because it is your mistake.

** Cancel all the pending appointment and start all over. B4 you start again make sure that you have filled and finally submitted your ds 160. Also choose physical bank payment. It's not compulsory you pay with card. You may screenshot your dashboard for clarification.

** If it persist then cancel pending appointment in your present avits profile and abandon it by opening another profile entirely and start all over. 👍

My case was similar to yours. Were the 3 times around the same time?

missusadey:
Chai! I'll still keep praying.
And I'm even now wondering why I got refused status. The last visa I got was used 3 times and on an average of 2.5 weeks. I still used the visa this last December before it expired in February.

I know people will say getting a visa is not guaranteed but there should be a basis for refusal

It shows error that it failed. That payment failed or that date-picking failed ? ** Also note that you have to wait 24hrs after payment before you try to book an appointment and the only avenue that will take you to calendar is by clicking on pending appointment after logging in to your portal. 👍

In my opinion, there's no need to worry. Their targets are primarily people who have spent months in the country and those who give birth there. If you don't fall into either of these categories, just schedule your interview and get your visa, there shouldn’t be any problems.
Re: Usa Visit Visa Part 5 by AdisaMighty: 4:36pm On Jul 03, 2025
Your interview should be straightforward then. Mine was, but in my case I visited the US 4 times within a year. All short trips (average of 9days).

You have nothing to worry about.
missusadey:
No, it wasn't. It was twice in 2023 (like 2 months apart 10days each time) and 2024

That is a dangerous Avits profile message for Adijat. It's very likely paynent issue message. Clear browser history, restart your computer or phone and logout and logback then try again. Try to book appointment in another post ie Lagos or Abuja.

** If that same message comes up then its very likely that your payment has not reflected or had issues. 🤔

It seems like we are back to the unofficial ban. Most applicants with no prior travel to the USA are getting denials regardless of their travel history and ties. Renewals on the other hand seem to be successful alhough after an interview and a long waiting period.

Thank you for your observation Bruce. I however thinks this is your personal opinion because number one it is impossible for you to know 25% of all visa applicants personally. Number two, it is impossible for you to be present inside both Lagos and Abuja embassies at the same time from Mondays all through Fridays, therefore, how did you arrive to your conclusion?

I want to advise that we leave U.S. visa success and U.S. visa rejection as a natural occurrence. It is not political or delibrate.

** U.S. embassy at Abuja and Lagos posts must issue visas every day, and they must reject visas every day. This is my opinion too. Thank you for your observation. 👋

This sounds like an error from the embassy. If I were in your shoes, I would book the appointment, and take the appointment slip with the son who was given 221. Explain the error they made. They’re human beings too.

I paid for US visa application fee today, but it showing no appointment available currently. Is this normal?

Do anyone know the earliest appointment date?

this is normal. you will wait till the embassy provides new dates on the portal. Just be checking everyday. Plus from my experience, you can't book appointment the same day that you made payment. you usually have to wait for like 3 days for it to reflect

I have not heard about it because I don't attach every U.S.A visa news that is created for other countries to Nigeria. Therefore , that news should not be debated because it's not even on the U.S embassy (in Nigeria) website .

Attached is the current news for Nigerians. 👍

Hello Guys,

so, i recently concluded my Civil wedding to my wife who is a citizen of the United state.

what is the best and fastest way to secure a visa or a green card.
my initial application for the Visa i applied for last year was to go visit her and also get acquainted with the environment, but now that we are legally married, how can i go about it, i and my wife seems to be clueless in this aspect.

do we need a lawyer or someone over there to process the application or what website.

i just need proper guidance.

Christaks:

Navigate to page 3 (k1 visa as attached) and repost your query. That is where you will receive the best answers and meet many people in your exact situation and how they are doing it. Good luck 👍

Re: Usa Visit Visa Part 5 by JohnZak: 5:00pm On Jul 06, 2025
Your wife (the petitioner) can file for a green card for you (the beneficiary). You can handle the process yourself as it is pretty straightforward. You can also use a lawyer if there are issues in your background e.g. prior overstay or other immigration-related issues etc.

The process can take a while so be prepared. A colleague has been on this for 2 years (will be 2 years in Sept) and his wife just received her embassy interview letter. In their case though, the petitioner had to resubmit his tax documents so it may have been shorter if the resubmission was not required.

You can get more info from USCIS here: https://www.uscis.gov/i-130

There is also a NL where you can ask questions about this although they are further along in the process (NVC stage): https://www.nairaland.com/3979737/nvc-processing-stage-u-family/200

Good luck!

Hello House Greetings!

I have couple of questions to ask pls help provide feedback
1. I filled DS-160 form for my parents in January this year who are planning to visit my 2 siblings in the US.Under the section that says do you have immediate relatives in the US,I filled yes and provided the status which were 1US citizen and 1 Green Card holder, last month the green card holder became a citizen,do I have to fill out a new DS-160 form.

2. If I have to fill out a new DS-160 form ,do I have to cancel the already secured appointment which is next month.

3.If the interview is successful how would my parents receive their passports back.

Your feedback would be greatly appreciated.

1..Yes you must fill another DS-160 in order to update the information of one of your siblings. U.S. embassy will do background checks on both siblings therefore, their information on DS-160 must be accurate.

2▪︎ After filling the new DS-160, all you will have to do is to raise a support ticket from their AVITS profile requesting the U.S embassy to update the DS-160. After 24hrs which the update must have been validated then you will have to print another appointment letters. The appointment letters will reflect the new ds-160 confirmation number which means everything is in order.
This procedure is free of charge and it does not affect your parents current appointment.

3● You will have to register for them on OIS. They will initiate the pick up of their passports by creating profiles just like they did on AVITS.
