Maverick singer, Seun Kuti has claimed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s only “achievement” so far is covering up crimes.


He claimed that most of the President’s tough economic policies that have impoverished Nigerians were simply enacted to protect the political elites from facing justice for their crimes.

The Grammy-nominated Afrobeat musician further claimed that the FCT minister, Nyesom Wike’s major concern while addressing the new opposition coalition during his monthly media chat was that the coalition wants to the change the status quo.


He claimed Wike berated the move by the politicians in the opposition coalition because he felt disappointed by their ungratefulness despite all President Tinubu has done to protect the political class.

Speaking in a video broadcast, Kuti said, “Wike’s recent media chat deserves some plots of land, in my books… Wike said during Rotimi Ameachi’s tenure as Governor of Rivers State, his [Ameachi’s] wife was collecting N4 billion per month. I wished he mentioned how many years that she received the money.

“Wike and the other politicians who support Asiwaju [Tinubu] are fighting for the status quo. The noise they are making.. If you listen to what Wike was saying at his media chat with a political ear, he is asking the opposition coalition politicians if they want to scatter the status quo.


“He said this man [President Bola Tinubu] is protecting all of us. When I say all of us, I don’t mean ordinary Nigerians. I’m referring to the political class; the rich, crooked, and corrupt Nigerian elites. That was what Wike was shouting at his media chat.
“Nigerians, I want you to understand that when they say this President has made touch decisions to protect the country, see, the only thing the president has done is to cover up crimes upon crimes.

“And in order for those crimes to be covered up, the bravery needed to do that is wickedness. He [President Tinubu] impoverished the whole Nigerians because in crime something has been taken.”

Seun Kuti is right in his assertion Tinubu is stoically "covering the crimes" of the rich and elite class but not for the reasons he thinks.

He is also right about the source of 'fiery' Wike's anger as well with the coalition but wrong claiming Wike and other supporters of Tinubu are fighting for "the status quo".

Yes Wike is mad because he is a confrontational and outspoken politician who hates deceit and hypocrisy, yet he now has the displeasure of seeing the likes of Hadi Sirika, the arrowhead of perhaps one of the most blatant and Hushpuppi-style "Nkgerian Air" scam, who should be in jail, strutting around in ADC today as a "rescuer" of Nigeria.

Tinubu's 100% focus on achieving target he sets for himself , without derailing distractions, makes him different to Wike in approach. Tinubu knows the rich and elite class are also our politicians. The very same one's that have brought Nigeria to her knees ftom 1999 till 2023 when he took over.

Seun only knows how to be pugnacious and seek attention as a 'revolutionary voice of he masses.

He does not have enough knowledge or wisdom to understand diplomacy and how it is wise to stoop and conquer if you wish to achieve very difficult task with so many powerful and patently evil individuals standing in the way of you doing that.

Tinubu knows those evil individuals will succeed if he unwisely chooses to confrontation them all at the expense of his core mission and objectives because he is a master of using the adage "work smarter not harder".

Seun is correct Nigeria was a massive crime scene, with many criminals at large having gotten away with monumental looting of State funds, when Tinubu took over.

Yet 4 years, and 8 maximum, is not enough for any President , pragmatically intelligent and genuinely seeking accelerated and enduring growth and progress for Nigeria, to use turning Nigeria into a glorified law Court for trying and jailing past offender.

They are too many, too wealthy and too influential to the extent they will ensure such President will be bogged down in lengthy legal trials upon trials that even 2 term tenure for said President will amount to a big fat zero.

What a wise President should do, if in possession of a solid economic plan to counteract damage done and gradually move Nigeria towards sustainable economic buoyancy, is to focus on using reforms to steady the ship and then consolidate upon that achievement with what should be a long period of accelerated growth and development for Nigeria.

That is a better and more effective strategy that, incidentally, with reforms like fuel subsidy removal and Naira floatation etal, also stops dead in its track the former crimes and theft of the elite to make such permanently impossible in future.

Fundamental changes are better at defeating institutional and entrenched corruption than going to break down many doors, drag people off to jail by their hair only for most cases to then even outlast the tenure of Tinubu.

Better to kill their capacity for commiting those theft and crime at source , with sound reforms, so that Government can focus it's full attention on doing the utmost best for Nigeria and Nigerians.
