Hello Nairalanders, about 4 day's ago I created a thread, regarding the extortion of 80,000 naira from me illegally by the police, even when my papers are 100% correct as I did a new plate number after buying the car, so everything regarding the papers are on my name, and all Intact.

After creating the thread, It immediately got to the front page and It generated reactions, almost every one (99.9%) of those that commented were against the police because what transpired was truly an extortion. I got countless numbers of positive advices.

Including going on twitter and tag some important personnel on the police force, while trying to do so by opening the profile that I went through, I saw some police numbers on one of the posts by the police, there was a post to call some numbers when one get harassed by the police unnecessarily.

I copied the numbers and gave It a call, they were 5 numbers, and only the very first one I called was what sorted out my predicament.

I called the number and narrated everything to the man that picked up ( Detective Barnabas from CRU) THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH SIR. So, he asked me the location where It happened and the time, he asked me to forward the screenshot of the transaction regarding I and the POS girl I made the transferred to, In which the POS girl stand was directly at the back of the station, and I did forwarded It to his whatsapp.


He acted so very swiftly, he swinged Into action with immediate effect, I called him yesterday and I got my complete money back today.

After telling him the area It happened and exact location, also the station they took my car to. He called the area commander with immediate effect, and the area commander swinged into action immediately.

I was called to come to the station this afternoon to identify the men involved, but unfortunately they weren't around. I went home hoping to go tomorrow as told, to come and identify them.

But to my utmost surprise, the police in charge of the case called me barely an hour ago that they've recovered back my money, he gave me cash, 80,000 completely.

I want to use this medium to thank Nairaland and Nairalanders, you made this possible, I would not have gotten anything from that money if not for you all, coupled with the fact that I would also get more future harrassments.

A friend told me to be careful and observant, that they might plan to set me up soon, due to what transpired today. I'm scared but nevertheless, I just have to be observant, most especially whenever they're searching my car.

They can't do nothing. Just make sure your car papers are complete and try to avoid night driving so you don't run into them. If you're still in doubt about your safety, change the plate number.

Speaking out works, don't be quiet when oppressed, a police is a public servant, a government worker, report erring police officer to superior or sue them to court.

Also report robbery and theft cases to the police, it helps them map out areas and places prone to crime, so they can start monitoring. Don't be quiet or afraid. Speaking out, activism is the way to freedom, equality and proper rule of democratic law. A police is to serve you not harrass, victimise or arrest you unlawfully...as long as you have not committed any crime.

Soro soke, police and Nigerians are fond of using police to victimise others. Soro soke, cast them.

Very few people in Nigeria have not seen or experienced some form of police trouble BUT since you admit say 1% good e make sense to you to lump them with all the bad ones?

Also, be confident around police officer without being offensive or combative. Worst case is to take you to station whereas they have to explain to a superior why you were arrested or detained and the superior has more to lose if things turn south.

They barely take you to a superior whenever take take you to their station, they're always fast to give you paper and biro and command you to write a statement. I was about writing the statement before one of them told me to settle them so I can be able to leave with my car. He called 500,000 until I pleaded for almost an hour and settled 80,000

Most officers of the Nigerian Police Force are worse than criminals and I think the corrupt system is still protecting them. Those officers who extort ed you should have been disciplined (if not dismissed). Not punishing them will give room for future corrupt action like this.

It's not like they won't repeat this action in future, they sure will. However, they will devise an ingenious way to not leave any paper trail behind.

You gan self, whenever you're dealing with the Police, always be on high alert lest you'll become their MUGU. You can't be a "gentleman" when dealing with Nigerian Police, you'll pay through your nose.

Yes, you're so absolutely right. It's always good to speak out no matter what, and I'm so glad that I did. Nevertheless, a friend told me to be careful that the officers involved might set me up anytime soon, that I should be vigilant.

they surely gonna try to set you up, your plate number is on there bad boys black list get a dash cam or the sunglass with camera and ensure when they checking your car you having a video record as well...me try mak it obvious to them that their is a dash cam, so after paper check they let me go

It seems you're a seer, this Is exactly what two of my friends told me, an officer told me this too. He told me to be vigilant from now on and always watch my back, that they will set me up in the coming days. I'm scared though, but I will be vigilant from now henceforth.
