1..Yes you must fill another DS-160 in order to update the information of one of your siblings. U.S. embassy will do background checks on both siblings therefore, their information on DS-160 must be accurate.

2▪︎ After filling the new DS-160, all you will have to do is to raise a support ticket from their AVITS profile requesting the U.S embassy to update the DS-160. After 24hrs which the update must have been validated then you will have to print another appointment letters. The appointment letters will reflect the new ds-160 confirmation number which means everything is in order.
This procedure is free of charge and it does not affect your parents current appointment.

3● You will have to register for them on OIS. They will initiate the pick up of their passports by creating profiles just like they did on AVITS.

Bro us embassy will not do any background checks on any siblings especially not if you’re applying for a visitors visa. They won’t even do a background check on you. The visa decision lies solely on the interview that will last between 3 to 5 minutes and any other us immigration info they have in you. The only time you should expect a background check is if you go for an interview and they give you 221g. Apart from that, they don’t send you like that to go and be doing background checks. Do you know how many visas are processed daily??

Lekan.
You have reasoned well but let us sit down and reason together. U.S embassy does not have time all the time to verify stuffs but they 70% of the time verify anything inside america or coming from inside america because it is extremely easy for them to do so.

■■ Another thing is that U.S.A have more enemies than any other countries of the world and these enemies cannot harm america externally as of today because of highly sophisticated technologies except they are physically present in America.

■■ In this respects, gone are the days when the U.S. embassy doesn't have time to verify. They now have more than enough time to verify and do background checks because that is why they have placed visa appointment times on lengthy waiting time. Why is Canada B1/B2 waiting period for non-Canadians almost 400 days ? Why cannot you pay visa fee and get a date as soon as possible unlike b4 ?

■■ @Lekan are you still disputing my opinion ? I am a natural researcher. I dont post on Nairaland to impress anybody because I know that there are thousands of intelligentsia on Nairaland. 🥸

This is a dicey situation because embassy warned you.
Quickly login to your Avits profile and click on Reschedule appointment. Once you are able to Reschedule then update your ds-160 and print out a new appointment letter.

** I just hope that the grace is available for you otherwise you will pay another visa fee. 👌

I tried but my DS160 was submitted since March
Re: Usa Visit Visa Part 5 by IjeObi: 11:31am On Jul 07, 2025
I scheduled an interview appointment for November 17 when I first paid. I downloaded and printed my appointment letter. But after some time, I saw an October date and took it. However, my appointment confirmation letter carries the November date. Do I need to print a new appointment letter to bear the new appointment date and time or does the old one work? Will it matter what date the letter carries since my account on AVITS carries the October date?
Re: Usa Visit Visa Part 5 by VisaZest: 11:45am On Jul 07, 2025
Hi,

Your next step should be to find out if your AVITS profile has the option to reschedule appointment. You may need to wait 24-72hours to see if this is the case.

Additionally, except the DS 160 from March is up to date, you should proceed to fill another DS 160.

Once you are able to reschedule your appointment, create a support ticket for them to update your profile with your preferred DS 160. Give them 72 hours then check to confirm if your new appointment carries the correct DS 160 number.

If you are unable to reschedule your appointment, you may need to pay another visa fee.

All the best with your application.

Hi,

If I understand you correctly, you are asking if you should print the appointment letter for your new appointment and the answer is definitely yes. When you still have ample time to print, there's no need taking the risk of having an appointment letter that says November when your new date is in October.

All the best with your application!

Yes, the date is very important. Plus when you reschedule you are required to reprint the confirmation letter. The point of reprinting is to have your date updated.

Please how do I fill that I have a business of my own along with my primary job when filling my DS-160?
I ask because there’s only a provision for a primary occupation and then previous jobs.

How best do I add an additional source of income?

You can’t add it, you can bring it up during the interview

Hi guys,

My mother recently got her 5 years Visa Approved. She has been to the US about 10 years ago and stayed about 6 weeks. Is there an advisable number of days she can stay for? Currently, booked her flight and she is to stay for about 80 days but hearing rumours that she might have issue with the duration.
Re: Usa Visit Visa Part 5 by Christaks(m): 10:34pm On Jul 07, 2025
Thanks so much. I will be going through the website. I will drop feedback also.

JohnZak:
Your wife (the petitioner) can file for a green card for you (the beneficiary). You can handle the process yourself as it is pretty straightforward. You can also use a lawyer if there are issues in your background e.g. prior overstay or other immigration-related issues etc.

The process can take a while so be prepared. A colleague has been on this for 2 years (will be 2 years in Sept) and his wife just received her embassy interview letter. In their case though, the petitioner had to resubmit his tax documents so it may have been shorter if the resubmission was not required.

You can get more info from USCIS here: https://www.uscis.gov/i-130

There is also a NL where you can ask questions about this although they are further along in the process (NVC stage): https://www.nairaland.com/3979737/nvc-processing-stage-u-family/200

Good luck!

Navigate to page 3 (k1 visa as attached) and repost your query. That is where you will receive the best answers and meet many people in your exact situation and how they are doing it. Good luck 👍

Your mother's duration of stay on a particular entry is still going to be determined by the CBP officer at the port of entry. Your mother will be asked very quick few questions and that will determined the range from few days to a maximum of 6- month (I-94 permission).

** The maximum reasonable duration of stay per each entry for a B1/B2 visa holder is 3- months (even when you have six months of grace to stay) otherwise, such visitor would face rigorous query upon next trip, and continuation of longer stay per trip might jeopardize the smooth renewal of your current visa.

** Your mother's 80 days is okay. 👍

If you have just paid your uncle's visa fee you have to wait for at least 24hrs before you can book an appointment by clicking on " Pending Appointment " from your uncle's profile . If your payment is elapsing 48hrs you have to navigate by choosing another post or keep waiting. 👍

I don’t blame them, Nigeria can do better. We give everyone 3 months single entry.

I’m sure that this 3 months visa will be reversed soon when Nigeria’s immigration comes back to their senses.it is just America retaliating to the fact that Nigeria issues 3 months visa to their citizens

Our government thought that Americans are too wealthy or okay and won't fancy the notion of staying too long in Nigeria despite the insecurity and warnings 😀

This should be an eye opener to our government and to Nigerians that Americans cherish and fancy our natural resources and our market economy and they love Nigerians.

Please our government should revisit their visa policy and grant them what they desire. 😎
Re: Usa Visit Visa Part 5 by JohnZak: 3:57am On Jul 09, 2025
This will likely be reversed. Sadly, this happens every couple of years. Nigerian embassy/consulate changes visa validity to 3 months for US citizens and the US retaliates and they back down. NG just wants to make money off of visa fees like the foreign embassies make from Nigerian citizens with this three month validity period.
