My cousin just told me last night that she just got raped on Sunday afternoon/evening (6th July, 2025).

I stay with them for now. She's 18, the first of two daughters and was still virgin (as far as I know). Her only [older] brother is in school.

She's been acting funny since on Sunday evening. She couldn't hold it in anymore and, since there is no one else she could actually confide in, she confided in me. Now she's begging me not to tell anyone and not to cause trouble. She only wants me to help her get a drug (if any) that will prevent pregnancy.

She told me about the man coming to see her in her mother's restaurant and said she was going to talk to the man about getting me a job, but when she went into his car, he forced himself on her.

Honestly I am angry right now! I am angry at three things:

First, I am angry at my family. I have a family where the children are afraid to open up, because if you do, you will be blamed and castigated upon. I understand her fear and apprehension about letting other people know, but I just can't let this go.

Secondly, I am angry at our society. How can a man confidently feels he can force himself on a lady and get away with it? What kind of society do we have?

Thirdly, I am angry at myself. I am angry because I feel helpless. I can't let this thing go. I have to deal with this man, but I don't know how to do it without putting my cousin in a difficult position. I have tried to let her know that it is not her fault and that the man needs to pay for this, but she's been begging me to just let it go. She only confided in me because she's really scared of getting pregnant.

According to her though, there was never any real penetration, but the man (who is a high ranking government official) actually "released" ON her, not IN her. (Does that even make sense?)
How can I handle this issue right now? For me, I am planning to go all out and let hell break loose and let the heavens fall if they have to.

There is no way you can handle it without involving the family...

First ask the details of the guy that raped her, get full details then head over to the police or human right lawyer, else the guy will repeat it again

Sorry to hear this. Efforts are being made by president Tinubu and his wife to address gender-based violence and support women's rights in Nigeria. Please prioritize your sister's physical and emotional wellbeing for now and report to the authorities.

This is a serious case, I'm glad she opened up to you, please involve her elder brother, involve NAPTIP. This is very disturbing, even of her parents will be aware in future, make una treat that guy f**k up ASAP.

First, take her to the hospital for checkup to get documented proof forceful entry was done down there.

Take the clothe she wore that day if it's blood stained as evidence too.

It's gonna be long ride as you can't fight the man directly, what you will do is smear campaign — how?

First, report to Naptip with proof.

Thirdly, pay influencers/bloggers to post the news out there and hope VDM picks on the news and get justice for you. If he doesn't, Send all your proof to kokopee or VDM brother to help send the case to VDM. That's because VDM's DM is choked up.


Do anything to blow the case open and destroy the reputation of the man, possibly making him lose his job, that same job he used as leverage to take advantage of your cousin. This is the only way you can fight him NOT physically and don't go to the police or court by yourself without the help of those Agencies aforementioned or VDM. You will lose because he is well connected and richer than you.

You have to be very sure, if there was actually a rape or consentual. So that you won't regret taking certain decisions.

Are u sure she's telling you the truth ..this one that's she's saying it's on ur account that she got r@ped?? Are u sure she's not trying to make u feel responsible so you can help her get rid of the pregnancy she suspecting she has...??

U better involve family..don't get her any her drugs oooo ...Sunday is like 72hrs ago, the chance of after sex pill working well has reduced.. na so ectopic pregnancy dey start if she's pregnant to begin with...

She needs to go to a hospital, for proper checkup and so that she can get post exposure pill......some of these r@pist have HIV

this is Nigeria. the man won't loose his job for a rape case sadly. if truly he is a high ranking govt official, he would hv the money and connections to kill this case. it takes a strong and supportive family to fight this kind of case which obviously your family is not because aside from money to fight this, there would be a stigma on the girl that only a supportive family can protect her from in fact it would be advisable to change location

also the earlier a rape case is reported the better as by now the torn puna would be healing. did he tear her cloths, is there blood, was scuffle marks documented??
we need to work on communication in our homes so that ones kid won't be afraid to open up freely to their parents

Take her to a hospital first and get her tested, so you have medical evidence confirming that she was violated.
If the man is truly a customer, like she said, wire her and let her talk to him. Anything that gets him to admit, even slightly that it was rape will help establish evidence. This shouldn’t have to be your job but the Nigerian justice system is unreliable.

We love to cheer when our favorite politicians tell others to "go to court," forgetting that someday it might be us seeking justice and we’ll find none.

Option two: take her for a test and file a complaint at a police station or with the right authorities. If the man is wealthy or well-connected you may not win but at least you tried.

Option three: gather all the necessary evidence that he raped her and go street way but please only do this if you're absolutely sure she was raped.

People lie a lot. Many kids today can be just as manipulative as adults, if not more so. Don't fight blindly or ignorantly.

As much as I hated to do it, I finally reported it to one of my aunts. We will be contacting the man very soon and maybe heading to the police station

Find a way to convince her and let her parents into the picture.
Report the molester for arrest, investigation and subsequent prosecution.
