Here you have it again and again. Borrowing to loot. Una go chop stats till e tire una. Tinubu's and Buhari's rudderless governments really mortgage Nigeria into irredeemable financial indebtedness.

Borrowing without corresponding developments equal to looting |

In 2 years, the Great Tinubulation has borrowed more than YAR and GEJ combined. Let's not say anything about the kunu guzzling drunkard that graced Aso Rock for the last 8 years before handing over to the octogenarian failure. |

APC really changed the sequence and trajectory in a staggering and startling manner. If anyone promises you CHANGE don't forget to ask him or her what manner of change is it? |

And they kept making a lot of noise then … that Jonathan was borrowing to run the Economy… Meanwhile see the amount Buhari borrowed . |

For all the noise the All Progressives Congress (APC) has made over the 16 years of People's Democratic Party (PDP) rule, Nigerians are beginning to realize that the real decline began when the APC came to power. A deeper look into the economic and social metrics of Nigeria between 1999 and 2015 under PDP, and from 2015 to 2025 under APC, reveals an uncomfortable truth: the APC's so-called “change” might have been a grand conspiracy to run Nigeria into the ground—possibly to discredit democratic governance, or worse, to benefit a few elites while impoverishing millions. During the PDP years (1999–2015), Nigeria experienced relative macroeconomic stability. Under President Obasanjo, Nigeria secured debt forgiveness from the Paris Club, and external debt was reduced from over \$30 billion to around \$3 billion. The GDP growth averaged 6–7% annually for most of that era. The naira, while not perfect, was relatively stable—hovering around ₦150 to \$1 by 2015. Inflation was largely in single digits. Petrol was ₦87 per liter. A bag of rice was about ₦8,000–₦10,000. The minimum wage, though low, had more purchasing power. Fast forward to APC’s 10-year reign (2015–2025), and the economic indices tell a disastrous story. Inflation has skyrocketed, consistently above 20%. The naira has plummeted from ₦197 in 2015 to over ₦1,500 in 2025. A bag of rice now costs ₦80,000. Fuel prices have jumped to over ₦650 per liter. Real wages have crashed, while poverty rates have expanded. Millions of Nigerians are unemployed or underemployed. The GDP growth under APC has averaged less than 2%—barely keeping pace with population growth. Some economists have even referred to this period as a “lost decade.” Security? Under PDP, Boko Haram was a significant challenge, but under APC, the group mutated into multiple armed factions, with added threats from bandits, kidnappers, and unknown gunmen. Now, nowhere feels safe. Under PDP, a single schoolgirl abduction sparked national outrage and global solidarity (#BringBackOurGirls). Under APC, entire communities vanish and it's just another headlines. What if APC’s rise was never about reforming Nigeria, but about destroying its middle class? What if key actors in the APC project were never committed to national development but to foreign economic interests? A weakened naira makes Nigerian assets cheaper to acquire by foreign corporations. Fuel subsidy removal without local refining capacity appears more like a scam than a solution. And the hardship from their policies keeps citizens too distracted to resist. Meanwhile, the APC successfully weaponized propaganda, blaming all of Nigeria’s woes on the PDP, while quietly recycling former PDP members into their own fold. Was the APC just a rebranded PDP without vision or competence? Or worse—was it a Trojan horse, designed to sabotage any real progress that was made from 1999 to 2015? In hindsight, PDP’s 16 years might not have been perfect, but compared to APC’s catastrophic 10 years, they now look like a golden age. The real truth? Making Nigerians believe otherwise. |

BuharisBoy:To whom much is given much is expected during 16 years of PDP our oil experience unprecedented boom selling over $110 per barrel even with the fact that Nigeria got debts forgiveness yet toward the end PDP reign government have to borrow to pay salaries why because all the money we made during the oil boom were misappropriated and looted. While during the Buhari regime the government faces some obstacles and challenges. First the price of oil gone down to as low as less than $50 dollar per barrel. Secondly the outbreak of COVID 19 that sent the whole world to economy recession. With all these Buhari still maintain fuel and naira exchange rate subsidies. |

Buhari borrowed $32bn in 8 years while Tinubu has borrowed only $2.8bn. Saying he has borrowed more than all combined is untrue... |

BuharisBoy:Why are you guys so hypocritical and snake-like?. You were here all through Buhari's tenure, praise singing APC, opening several threads to insults and mock oppositions, attacking Ipobs, PDP, etc. Now, because Buhari is out of power, APC has suddenly become evil, you have been crying up & down since. You guys no dey fear God o, & you dey enter mosque dey go pray five times a day. Judgement day will be very interesting. |

(I hate to be that guy) DISCLAIMER 1.Tinubu government is not running our country well. 2. Check my latest topic on who we should vote for... Let's look at what OP wrote in a different way 2006: We got all but 1/3 rd of our debt forgiven, and we paid off the rest. Now.. Government: External | Domestic Yar'Adua [3yrs]: $0.92bn | ₦2.38tn¹......OIL PRICES: between 91-145 DOLLARS per barrel. Jonathan [5yrs]: $6.05bn | ₦4.42tn¹....OIL PRICES : between 91-130 dollars per barrel. Fiscal breakeven price 122 dollars per barrel Buhari [8yrs]: $32.84bn | ₦45.16tn.....OIL PRICES : 20-75 dollars per barrel from 2015-21 and from 2022-3, 91-110 per barrel from 2021-2.Fiscal breakeven now 139 dollars per barrel ²Tinubu [<2yrs]: $2.82bn | ₦24.63tn..oil prices: 60-75 dollars per barrel from 2023. Fiscal breakeven 103-150 dollars per barrel. The above is why we borrow so much under Buhari and tinubu, and why we borrowed so little. Remember that at least 80% of government revenue comes from oil. It does not make tinubu and buhari good leaders. Diversification or the lack thereof is why. |

Guestmale:And you have started rolling out the lies, tell me how much OBJ sold a barrel of crude oil from 1999 - 2003 and still saved billions of dollars for Nigeria, paid subsidy for Nigerians and did not complain to Nigerians that the military government before him did not leave anything for him. If you can provide the price for crude oil from 1999 - 2003 then you will know that you are just telling reckless lies... |
