Tensions within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have intensified as former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, has rebuked President Bola Tinubu for claiming that he was solely responsible for the emergence of Muhammadu Buhari as president in 2015.

Mustapha, who served under Buhari, made the remarks on Wednesday during the public presentation of ‘According to the President: Lessons from a Presidential Spokesperson’s Experience’, a new book authored by Buhari’s former media aide, Garba Shehu, in Abuja.

Responding to previous claims made by Tinubu during his 2022 campaign that Buhari would not have been president without him, Mustapha dismissed the notion and credited Buhari’s long-established grassroots popularity in Northern Nigeria as the real engine behind the APC’s victory.

“The CPC had only one state then, but the important votes that gave us victory came from CPC,” Mustapha said.

“We knew what we did to produce Buhari’s presidency. Buhari already had 12 million votes. What the merger brought was an additional three million. It wasn’t about anyone making anyone president. Buhari’s base was already solid,” he added.

Tinubu, in a now-famous campaign address in Ogun State in June 2022, had declared that Buhari owed his presidency to him.

He recounted his efforts in building coalitions and stepping down from a potential vice-presidential slot for the sake of the party.

“If not for me talking to you today, Buhari would not have been president. It is over 25 years that I have been serving them,” Tinubu said.

Buhari contested severally without success, he had given up till PBAT rebranded him and made him win.
Nobody would have known Boss Mustapha or late Kyari who were busy bossing over Buhar's cabinet when PBAT was sidelined and left with nothing.. now some people with short memory are asking why PBAT is appointing Yorubas and not dancing to the tune of Buhari's crew.

This is to show how SW votes too can be inconsequential. The 2023 elections the SW brought only 2.5 million votes to Tinubu. The north brought over 5 million vote. Therefore anyone can do without SW votes just like SE vote.

Many of those who worked under Buhari have turned out to be ingrates because of unemployment.

In 2011, coalition talks failed as Buhari refused to concede the vice presidential ticket to Tinubu's camp. In 2015, the merger paid off when Buhari conceded the vice presidential slot to Tinubu.

The additional 3 million votes led to offsetting Jonathan's votes by 2,571,759.

Without Tinubu, Saraki and some others, Buhari would never have won that election and Babachir and Boss Mustapha would not have been SGF.

Tinubu contributed immenseley to rebranding Buhari and successfully removed the tag of religious fundamentalism from Buhari, which influenced Buhari's marketability.

Despite Buhari's team sidelining Tinubu during Buhari's tenure, Tinubu remained true to the party. Despite the party abandoning APC Edo during Obaseki's second term campaign, Tinubu supported the party. Despite many in Buhari's camp refusing to openly campaign for Tinubu, Tinubu campaigned as if his life depended on it. Buhari later joined when it became clear he was being unfair to Tinubu.

Now, many of Buhari's disciples who feel sidelined are now undermining Tinubu. Osinbajo himself undermined Tinubu by running against him and got served. It's been only two years, and many of Buhari's disciples cannot stay the course. Buhari and Tinubu were the arrowheads of APC. Buhari had his time, Tinubu also deserves his time. After Buhari, Tinubu took more heat on behalf of APC during Buhari's tenure.

There were rumours that some people in Buhari's government were more disposed to an Atiku presidency when the Ahmad Lawan project failed. The way they are trooping to the coalition, it is clear where they stood.

Even if Babachir, Boss Mustapha, Malami, Laureta Onochie and some Buhari's closest fellows detest Tinubu, they should be reminded that Buhari would never have been president without Tinubu's support.

To politicians, think of the future. Do not make enemies because of temporary hunger. You abuse Tinubu today. Tomorrow, you might need someone from his camp to support you. Why should he trust you?

I do not know why you assume I am pained. If Tinubu does not perform to your expectation, vote him out. That is your democratic right. If he fails, I'd support him to go home. My survival is not tied to Tinubu being in power or anyone else. But what we will not accept is the lie that those whose records in public office embarass them that they cannot even publicly talk about it are the ones to rescue Nigeria. We must rescue Nigeria from those who sold government assets to their friends. We must rescue Nigeria from those who destroyed NITEL and ruined power sector reforms. We must rescue Nigeria from those who used their positions to influence their wives getting 4 billion naira monthly to train Niger Delta women on only gawd knows what. We must rescue Nigeria from religious extremists who said EU election observers will return in body bags. We must rescue Nigeria from those whose accomplisments were prison breaks and declaration of public holidays. We must recue Nigeria from those who slap vulnerable women in shops asking "do you know who I am?" We must rescue Nigeria from those who built an uneconomic and voodoo railway from Kano to Maradi and refused to build a maritime university in the Niger Delta. We must rescue Nigeria from the Church of Emergency Messiahs of Nigeria of Latter Day Saints. We must rescue Nigeria from you!

He failed with his solid base not once, not twice. He even gave up his ambition after the third until he coalesce with (as you said weaker bases) and then he won at the first try.
