Human rights activist and former federal lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani, has weighed in on the rising criticisms trailing Governor Charles Soludo’s recent remarks on security and ethnic profiling in Anambra State. In a recent post on his official X handle, Wednesday, July 9, 2025, Senator Sani called on Peter Obi, former Anambra governor and Labour Party leader, to stop focusing on Soludo and instead challenge the police to publish a full list of those arrested or wanted for crimes in Anambra over the last four years. According to him, publishing such names will reveal the true ethnic background of the suspects and put an end to the growing speculations and accusations of ethnic bias. Sani questioned why Obi and others were quick to attack Soludo without first verifying the facts behind the governor’s statement, insisting that the real issue lies in the identities of those committing crimes in the state, not in Soludo's choice of words. He stated that demanding those names from security agencies is the only way to clear the air and put an end to the political back-and-forth. Senator Sani concluded that the outrage directed at Soludo will remain “political gymnastics” until Obi takes the bold step of seeking the truth from the right sources.

Femi Fani Kayode reacts: Governor Soludo while speaking during a town hall meeting with members of the Anambra State Diaspora Community in the United States on Monday, said to have emphasized that it was actually youths from the South-East who were carrying out most of the kidnappings. Soludo reportedly stated that during his time in office, which had spanned three years and three months, nearly all of the criminals apprehended—specifically, 99.99% of about 100 arrested—were Igbo youths. He also reportedly described the popular belief that Fulani were taking over land and kidnapping people as a false narrative.

Why didn't Soludo follow up his assertion with the same police report or stats before profiling the Igbos in Anambra state as the majority criminals? Many other ethnic nationals are in Anambra state commiting crimes but according to him, only fellow Igbos are the majority criminals being arrested. Can he provide a statistics that confirmed this revelation? Criminality knows no divide but efulefus like Soludo thinks he is smart in demonizing his own people because of politics. |

Racoon: stanluiz:What part of Soludo's message was too difficult for you and your kind and Peter Obi, to understand?. Can criminals be arrested in a state without the collaboration of security agencies within the state?. Are security reports from the various security agencies including the state DSS not submitted to the Governor everyday?. Do you think a Governor would come out to talk carelessly without having facts on his table?. Did you or Peter Obi have more facts than the Governor while you sit down on your keyboard?. You're quick to condemn terrorism in the north but here you are trying to protect criminals in your region. -Kiss the truth! |

surgical:You're only being half smart, stop seeing Tinubu in your dreams. Focus on Soludo and what he said about 99.9% ibos are responsible for crimes in Anambra. The incident of the daughter of Afenifere leader was not relevant in this discussion, the security had arrested the perpetrators and they have since been sentenced in prison. That does not mean Yoruba are not responsible for crimes in their region, we have seen them being arrested. I don't even think any reasonable person would deny the fact that ibos have been arrested committing lots of crimes in the SE generally. Unless you want us to believe you guys are angels who commit no crimes.🤣🤣 |

Why is Peter Obi attacking Gov Soludo?. why is he being an irredeemable ethnic jingoist?. While we are still condemning him for his penchant for lying and presenting false opinions without credible facts, on the other hand, he is posing himself as an ethnic lord who sees no wrong in his kinsmen. |

zero8zero:Obi can't help himself. That is how he is 'wired'. Aside being an incorrigible and habitual liar, he is an ethno-religious bigot also. We all remember the "yes daddy" recording that damn him forever as a religious bigot and hater of Islam. This blind defence of Igbos, against the assertion of a sitting Governor privy to the most sensitive security briefing and information, is another episode damming Obi an ethnic jingoist. So many bad quality in one man yet some keep touting him President Material. |

It's really unbelievable the level some very dumb igbo politicians can go just to get validation from the ruling apc led federal govt. What does soludo has to say to victims of fulaniherdsmen massacres in enugu and other states in the south east? I have never even seen fulani leaders condemn the heinous activities of their fulaniherdsmen brothers all over nigeria yet a dumb professor find it very politically convenient to condemn his own people publicly a people who have not only been suffering from systematic political marginalisation but also genocide over the years from different nigerian govts. |

PulaPower:Then you don't know soludo. Soludo want to be the first president of SE extraction since 1999. That's why he is demonizing his people including Peter Obi. So, that outsiders can see him as pan Nigerian and vote for him. His Continues attack on Peter Obi and Igbos in general has a political undertone. Is not just ordinary. This is self hate all because of because of politics. Other Igbos politicians try it, we know how it ended for them. Soludo should continue. We will see how far. |

TimeManager:APCs Internet hirelings and their childish propaganda.. Where did Shehu mention Peter Obi in this report, and where did Peter Obi attack one loquacious upstart at Awka government House? One fact most of you hired posters don't understand is that ordinary igbos know the characters of the sell outs parading around as igbo leaders. We have seen their types before, so they surprise no one.. |

stanluiz:It is not self hate. It is simply political naivety. He is a professor, so folks tend to ascribe a whole lot of unearned political intelligence to him. But he is just a professor of economics who knows next to nothing about raw power in a "dog eat dog" political environment like Nigerias.. Again Soludo is a bit arrogant. He always sees himself as the most intellectually savvy in the room. This unfortunate mentality tends to instigate him to always pontificate and lecture without much patience to understand and respond appropriately to the myriads of underlining sentiments that dictate political trends in the country. People like him don't beleive that igbos are marginalized no matter how the facts stack up before them..It is always the problem of igbos not that of federal Nigeria.. Again, by always blaming igbos for all the wrongs in the south-east, he is following a well known-worn out political path used by many South Eastern politicians in the past. Same path used by the Arthur Nzeribes, the Nwobodos, Orji Kalus and co. It is a path that expects them to more or else cast aspersions on their fellow igbos to somehow prove their loyalty to the greater Nigerian project hoping that such helps improve their credit score with Abuja. They always end up on this path because they have been roundly blackmailed by a very ruthless and vindictive Yoruba media, who has managed over the years to define the igbos as a people perennially looking for power to destroy Nigeria. Instead of fighting back against this sort of negative propaganda, they chose to "clown" their own people with all sorts of torrid outbursts and uncanny tirades. |
