During my school days, the worst I heard was, pull your slippers outside and walk barefooted to your apartments, you can't wear slippers in the passage way... Those kinds of houses were mainly occupied by females, cause na dem dey adhere to that kain things. Also, people that said landlords requesting for two years rent at once it's wrong, omor I never knew oo, where I am now, I paid two years+agent&agreement+legal+caution, in Lagos ooo

Since 2021 I have been staying in houses where the landlord occupied. It is annoying but I finally moved out to a place with no landlord and only tenants. Pretty decent if you ask me. |

Meektunz:Lagos house hunting is no longer 'do you have the money?' it’s now 'do you fit the landlord’s personal fantasy?' Some of these conditions feel like auditioning for Big Brother Naija. Number 7 and 10? Pure wickedness. Let’s hear it, what crazy landlord condition have you faced? |

Yorubastardz:This what I have been saying, just 5 million naira is enough to build 2 rooms selfcointain. Give this mini flat to people to be pay back in 20 years at the rate of 250k per year. Those who have money can outrightly pay off or pay more per years. If a governor can allocate 60 billions naira to renovate government House, imagine what 100 billions invested in min flats would have done in 4 years. 100b will give appropriate 20,000 Houses, and in 4 or 8 years of governor tenor, he would've constructed 80,000 or 160,000 units. Nigeria are not rule by humans but useless demons. |

/ Lack of regulation and enforcement is what's killing anything real estate in Nigeria. Any buffoon can wake up any day and become an agent, a realtor or a broker. No certification. No checks and balances. Why would the government allow sometimes almost 50% fees on rental or purchase of properties? When you see some of the house agents, they look like motor park touts. I will never do any business with them. Do you want to rent from us? Call our management team. / |

One even told me that he doesn't want a moslem in her house. I said, ma, I'm a Christian. She then said, you must be a worker in your church and you must also give me the phone number of your pastor. So that when you offend me, I won't even argue with you, I will call your pastor. That's rule no 1. No. 2, I close my gate at 10pm. If you're not in this compound before 10pm, just sleep wherever you are. No. 3. Your guest can not knock at my gate. They must just call you when they get here because they will be disturbing the neighbors. In a nutshell, I allowed her to finish reading out all her rubbish. Then, I just responded by saying "ma, don't bother, I will look elsewhere. I just know that I've not got a house"! She said, what do you mean you're no longer interested, then I said, agent, pls just open the gate for me before I insult this woman! She was just looking at me and I drove out!!! |

My landlord don't want single people or married with many children in his house. Unfortunately, I was the only single man he accepted because of my profession. But the man increases rent like every year. I confronted him he said there's high inflation in the country and the house is the only investment he has as a retired teacher. I He locks the gate at 7pm but every tenant has the gate key. The house is in a very good location with a beautiful compound that's why these rules, and it doesn't take him up to 2 weeks to see another tenant once anyone packs out. |

Meektunz:His house, his prerequisite! I go to the extent of visiting the place of work written in the rental application to confirm some cogent information about my clients. It's the era of KYC. If embassies are requesting access to people's social media account before granting visa, why should a Landlord not have his own requirements? I've rejected a potential tenant's application simply because I found out that he beats his wife. |
| Re: Annoying Trends Of Landlords In Nigeria Lately, Share Your Experience by CaptainFM1: 10:54pm On Jul 10, 2025 |
Bwilliam:Did the Landlord thief the venza? People must understand that KYC is for both parties. If a Landlord has requirements for the kind of tenants he wants, tenants too must have their own requirements for the kind of Landlord they want. It is when both of you agree that payment should be made and keys handed over. People should stop talking as if Landlord is forcing them to rent a house. If you don't like the requirement of a landlord, then you move to another one until you see the one that suit you. |

Yorubastardz:If Peter Obi couldn’t build mass housing or low-cost apartments in 8 years as governor of just one state "Anambra" where he had full control, what makes you think he will do it for the entire country as president? Let’s be honest: governors are independent in Nigeria. They manage their own budgets and set their own priorities. If Obi didn’t prioritize public housing then, why do we assume he will suddenly do it now at the federal level, where the politics is messier, resources are shared, and power is more spread out? Talk is easy. Let’s judge based on records, not just sweet plans |

Lekan239:Don't be foolish Federal executive power of President is far greater than governor. Peter obi with federal capacity will do wonders |

If them swear for you not to be the owner of your own house then respond. Some of you lack comprehension and are quick to give what you won't take. If a landlord says his house is this and that, then it is this and that. Otherwise don't rent it. How difficult is that ![]() |
