Guys, have you seen the University of Glasgow? Omo, this school na pure beauty 😭.
Forget say na university, the place be like movie set – think Harry Potter vibes everywhere!

The main campus is something else. The Cloisters? Mad architectural masterpiece. You go just dey walk under those love beauty, It’s one of the most photographed spots in Scotland, no cap.

Then there’s the Hunterian Museum right inside the school, one of the oldest museums in Scotland! You fit enter there see all kinds of cool stuff art, science, history. And it’s free for students. Na knowledge cruise on another level.

Apart from all the fine fine things, Glasgow itself is a cool city, friendly people, good food, and plenty of other international students (including Nigerians 💚).

If you ever dey consider studying abroad, this school dey worth your consideration oh. Beauty + brains in one package.

Awwwh this is so nice! I was hoping I'd find many Africans but can't say I saw any but I found many Chinese students, so it’s really lovely to know you attended your friend’s grad and Ph.D at that cool

Scotland has got good universities. I was a bit surprised St Andrews is highly ranked. It's just that the UK doesn't have a strong manufacturing industry compared to say Germany or Big Daddy China. So, the post-postgraduate options are fewer.

Any country with a population above 50m needs a strong manufacturing sub-sector.

You shouldn't expect many Africans to study there as the tuition fees are high and many sub-Saharan African economies aren't performing so well. South Africans are better placed to afford the fees, but South Africa has got good schools and the competition isn't as fierce as in China. The higher education industry in Anglophone West depends heavily on Chinese students yet their governments are anti-China. Talk about ungratefulness!

That's an interesting perspective. It's true that the UK has some excellent universities, such as St Andrews, but it doesn't offer as many strong job opportunities after graduation, especially when compared to countries with large manufacturing sectors like Germany or China. This limitation can be significant. Additionally, the high tuition fees make it difficult for many Africans to study there, particularly given the challenging economic conditions in many sub-Saharan countries. South African students might have an easier time affording it, but, as you mentioned, they already have good universities in their own country. It's also quite ironic that there is a heavy reliance on Chinese students for enrollment while the political climate is increasingly anti-China.
