Tinubu’s Intervention In Rivers Crisis Was Timely - Sole Administrator, Ibas by Newsgeek24(op): 3:11am On Jul 13, 2025
The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), has praised President Bola Tinubu for his swift and decisive response to the political turmoil that engulfed the state earlier this year, News360 Nigeria reports.

Speaking during the grand finale of the 25th anniversary celebrations of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) in Port Harcourt on Saturday, Ibas described Tinubu’s intervention as both “timely” and “reassuring,” adding that it restored order and reinforced governance in the oil-rich state.

“Let me express our sincere appreciation to His Excellency, Bola Tinubu, for his unwavering commitment to peace and stability in Rivers State and the broader Niger Delta. His intervention in restoring order and governance in the state was timely, firm, and deeply reassuring,” Ibas stated.

The state descended into crisis following a fierce fallout between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, which triggered chaos in the Rivers State House of Assembly and heightened tension across the region. To address the situation, President Tinubu in March declared a six-month state of emergency, suspending Governor Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and appointing Ibas as Sole Administrator. The decision drew mixed reactions, with some hailing the move while others challenged it legally.

However, by June, after weeks of unrest, Fubara and Wike reached a truce following a peace meeting brokered by President Tinubu, with both parties pledging to work together in the interest of the state. The two leaders were subsequently seen at public events together, signaling a thaw in their relationship.

Speaking on the role of the NDDC, Ibas commended the Commission for its contributions over the past 25 years, noting that it had made significant strides in bridging infrastructure gaps, improving livelihoods, and supporting community development in the Niger Delta region.

“As host state to the headquarters of this very important Commission, and a principal stakeholder in its work, Rivers State acknowledges a unique relationship with the NDDC. Our state has been both a contributor and beneficiary, from road construction and rural education to youth empowerment, water, and health projects. The impact of these efforts across the length and breadth of our state cannot be denied,” he remarked.

Ibas also advocated for expanded intervention in areas like youth skills training, sports development, and the blue economy to unlock fresh opportunities for the region.

“We must begin to move our attention—not necessarily away from the construction of roads and bridges—but by keying into the Renewed Hope Agenda of His Excellency, Bola Tinubu. I am of the firm belief that the Niger Delta region, through collaboration with the NDDC, can comfortably catalyse over half of this target simply by exploiting the potential of our blue economy,” he added.

This singular wrong act by the president, is the major cause of the coalition. His second term must be avoided if not that man will destroy the nation. He used Fubara as example to create fear among governors so they decamp.
Disaster awaits him at the polls. No single governor want him there by 2027.

The Sim governor was clearly on his way to impeachment. How people refuse to see this intervention and even be grateful show the level of hypocrisy they have.

So the president can't call the house to forget that plan. Instead he prefer to hand over the state resources to another man with a yoruba man as the leader of the senate assembly overseeing the affairs of the administrator abi.

Put your money where your mouth is or put your mouth where your money is. As a solid beneficiary of the fracas it is safe for you to be in the affirmative of the one that favoured you.

Since he stands to gain the most from the state of emergency situation, I don't expect him to say anything negative or opposing regarding the idea.

If you guys know what this dude is doing in Rivers State. Zero development. Even ordinary waste is not being cleared. Dude is acting like someone that can to pack all he can ASAP, cos the time is short. They absolutely know what they are doing.

Rivers has gone 10 steps back. Even military governors were better.

Somethings cannot be said online, but there was a statement released by some dude talking about his alleged corruption, and how this same man prevented his promotion and turned a blind eye. All I can say is Rivers money is being split now like the tributaries in the Niger Delta

Tinubu has been on SIMs side and has stripped Wikes power.
Today the only thing that Wike control is skeleton of PDP

It was illegal, anti- democratic and a travesty
Simply put, it was a coup and what Ibas is saying is exactly what beneficiaries of coup usually say in their speeches after toppling a democratic govt

What is the president's business with if SIM is impeached?
Is the president going to sack the gov and legislature of all states where there's threat of impeachment? Impeachment is a constitutional provision in case you're not enlightened enough

River State issue Could have been worse if the Governor was impeach

We will have seen a lot of killing for both side

We know both parties dont care about the masses, na the masses for suffer am not their children

We also remember that the president has intervene before both parties fail to honor it, so he decided to break their back since they felt they were strong

The president suspension is yet to be interpreted by our court which is very bad

The question here is Our law said the president cant remove but can he suspension?

English no be you matter

And that intervention was to illegally suspend a democratically elected governor and members of the state House of Assembly, while allowing Wike a minister by appointment and the chief instigator of the entire crisis to remain in office and continue to attend federal Executive council meetings

Oga, just make your billions and go jejeje and leave Rivers State with Wike to manoeuver the way he likes with the support of the federal might.

Can you save us the scrap sermon, IMPEACHMENT is not a Life sentence or Cancer or covid Tinubu is no hero
So many governors have being impeached in the past include a Peter Obi and none of the impeachment stood the test of trial, cos certain clauses must be met which clearly Wike FC dont have

Suspending Fubara was the surest and secure means to arm twist Fubara down for Wike, Tinubu took that decision to save Wike an immient defeat cos they know the "Impeachment" wont last, should Fubara win by court that's the end of Wike in Rivers ... but Tinubu need rivers vote & resources

The same president that reversed Obasa's sack from the Lagos 's state House of Assembly as a Speaker even when consistutional procedures were fully obeyed in his impeachment?
He rushed to save Fubara by declaring a state of emergency?
Some of you are just funny.
Anyway, what will l tell people who fully defended Buhari giving appointments to dead people while the living are left jobless?

When will these clowns stop playing movies? Timely because he created avenue for you to loot, give back the Rivers treasury to Wike, hoping to enjoy the largess of election manipulation and rigging in return come 2027 just like Wike did in 2023. Criminals have hijacked leadership.

Of course it was timely for you!

What was happening in Rivers was purely motivated by the need to capture the state politically and ensure it can deliver the needed votes and funds in 2027.

What is happening in River is not as bad as the insecurity and killings going on in other states but no intervention by the one you praise!
