It's now official that Mr Buhari died on Sunday at a London hospital according to his spokesperson, Garba Shehu.

He said “The family of the former president has announced the passing of the former president, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, this afternoon in a clinic in London. May Allah accept him in Aljannatul Firdaus, Amin,” Mr Shehu wrote on X.

The former president has been abroad since April. According to sources close to his family, Mr Buhari initially travelled to the United Kingdom for what was described as a routine medical check-up, but subsequently took ill.

Mr Buhari was Nigeria’s president between 2015 and 2023. He stepped down on 29 May 2023 after serving his constitutionally permitted two terms

Muhammadu Buhari also served as Nigeria's president twice: first as military head of state from 1983 to 1985

I will remember Buhari for setting the pace for nepotism which Tinubu followed suit, clannishness, his comment in 2013 that a fight against Boko Haram is anti North. I could remember how many letters Obasanjo wrote to him to reddress favouritism. I will remember him for ignoring the pleas of Igbo leaders ( Elder Statesmen Amaechi Ladylike, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, Chief Chukwuemeka Ezeife of the blessed memories) to release MNK. I am they will all meet there and continue from where they stopped. I will remember him for being kind to Nigerian at least I was able to buy fuel ⛽ during his regime unlike Tinubu era. I will remember him for being and living a simple life unlike what we have today. May his soul rest in peace and may all the wicked leaders hasten up to go into extinction.

Tinubu has already broken his record. I was at Shoprite Akure this evening. The place was like a ghost town. Tinubu has destroyed the middle class and has finished the economy.

I ll remember Buhari for the mixed feelings he left behind. From his war against corruption to the economic hardship many faced, his 8 years were a rollercoaster. For me, it’s the insecurity, EndSARS saga, and the endless ASUU strikes that stand out. A complex legacy, honestly.
