Why is it that Yorubaland is the only region that has stagnated since independence while other regions have come up? A 1990 constitutional review will not do much, we need a total overhaul with a return to the 1963 constitution or you know. Let’s discuss this.

Yorubaland has “stagnated” since independence doesn’t quite stack up when you look at today’s numbers. Here’s the reality:

Yorubaland is actually doing quite well

Lagos alone clocks in at a GDP of over \$250 billion in 2025, bigger than around 40 African countries, with nearly 50% growth in just five years under Governor Sanwo‑Olu thanks to PPPs, a booming tech scene, and infrastructure investment .

The Southwest (all six states) contributes \~25% of Nigeria’s total GDP, with a combined regional GDP over \$250 billion .
Per‑capita GDP rankings place Oyo at about \$2,560, Ondo at \~\$6,077, Ogun \~\$5,288, Osun \~\$2,691, firmly in the upper‑middle range nationally .

You've produced presidents who would rather serve the fulani interests than the Yoruba interests like tinubu is doing now

They are the Yoruba problem not the Nigerian constitution

while not everyone feels it equally yet, especially in rural areas, many Yoruba people are seeing real changes like better roads, more jobs in tech and services, improved access to education and healthcare, and growing business opportunities, especially in cities like Lagos, Ibadan, and Abeokuta.

They think the only manifestation of growth is in the money you have.

How does all this money benefit Yoruba in anyway? With this money poor Yoruba elders 65 and olders should be getting something every month from the govt, but because we’re the casualties of Nigeria, our elders are poor in the midst of plenty. Our roads are like a room with 100 people in it with needs for constant maintenance. A visitor described Lagos as a place where people are trooping from the ground like ants. Too many people in the streets, so how can a place like that realize all its potentials? All the markets look like slums and chaotic. Lagos is the only city I’ve seen in all my travels that is built every inch to the edge of the lagoon and the ocean, a disaster waiting to happen. Yoruba has stagnated, if you want to know a country that has progressed, take a look at Singapore that started with Yoruba and see the contrast.
