Bayo Onanuga Reacts After Amaechi Said When Tinubu Was Angry With Him, He Went With El-rufai To Beg

In a resurfaced video, former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi detailed a critical moment during a All Progressives Congress (APC) convention, emphasizing Bola Tinubu's pivotal role in securing the party's historic electoral success. Amaechi's account, shared and reacted to by President Tinubu’s aide Bayo Onanuga on X on July 12, 2025 highlights the intense political dynamics and personal stakes involved.

“One day, Asiwaju (President Tinubu) got angry with me. He was very angry. I went to his house with El-Rufai and knelt down before him and said, Please don't do this. If we lose, I'm finished. I told him he'll be leading the history of the first civilian coup,”

Amaechi recounted, underscoring the high tension within the party. He further noted,

“When we had issues with holding the convention, I asked my leader (Tinubu) to lead us to the convention. He turned to me and said to me, Let's go, and truly, by 8 pm, the convention started.”

This narrative is said to align with historical accounts of Tinubu's influence, challenging narratives that downplay his contribution. Amaechi's recollection emphasizes Tinubu's strategic maneuvering, which was crucial for the APC's unity and campaign success.

The video's resurgence comes amidst ongoing political discussions, with Onanuga commenting,

Indeed internet never forgets. And you can imagine these two individuals - Ameachi and Elrufai who were on their knees begging Tinubu for the rescue of their political souls are the ones making unguarded utterances against same man. I could also recall that Amaechi during the speech, was telling Tinubu that he's finished if they lose, that GEJ will stop him from running out of the country and lock him up in jail.
The most unfortunate of this are the inconsequential elements who were no where to be found during this process but were fortunate to be appointed by Buhari, they have found their voices to deceive the gullible and discredit the brain child behind the process, the likes of Boss Mustapha, Laurette Onochie & the likes who were a nobody even in their wards at the time.
Today, Ameachi and Elrufai are fronting a charade against the man they called their leader but like other saboteurs and backstabbers before them who had dared this same path in the past, the outcome will always be the same - they shall all fail.

There is one thing I have noticed, it is that God seems to really like Tinubu.

There is nothing they did not throw at him at the last election. Ordinary to clinch the ticket of his own party was war. Only God knows how high his BP rose that period for his hand to have been shaking to even lift up the flag when he eventually won.

I also know that there are 6 things the Lord hates, the first of which is lies so that other guy that likes telling lies, but forming 'cent' and carrying cameras ones he wants to do good, I have nothing to say about him.

What a revelation, so without Tinubu, the 2014 convention would not have held. And you see some people saying Ameachi singlehandedly made Buhari win the primaries against Atiku during the convention yet this is Ameachi confessing that he had to beg Tinubu to lead them to the convention. Yet some arm chair analysts will be deceiving some people with concocted stories.

I strongly agree Tinubu is a master political strategist and knows how to win elections, but on how he treated El Eufai after the election is WRONG. I detest El rufai but, he stuck his neck out for Tinubu. He didn't deserve the bad treatment
Also, Tinubu goofed by making enemies with those that contested the ApC ticket with him.
One would have expected him to bring them closer (bring ur friends close and enemies closer) keep them busy with ApC, give them a sense of belonging.... Amaechi, Osinbajo, Lawan etc

Now he has to fight them all off. It won't be easy for him

Tinubu just used all of them el rufai and amechi, atiku to actialise his ambition. When they went to form APC they didn't know buhari and Tinubu has their own hidden agenda.

Abeg stop all these plenty talks jor. All of them are the same thing. From Tinubu to Ameachi, to El Rufai, to Wike,to Obi, to Atiku all politicians are the same. Is there anyone that hasn't beg a favor from each other and later betray it.
Or didn't we see where Wike was shaking and bowing to Amaechi when he wanted his favor and now he's like a tiger to him.

They cannot even tone the politics down a bit for the one who died. They do not take a leaf from the circumstances and be reminded that they would leave the power behind one day
