Fethullah: Turkey Warns Of New Terrorist Group In Nigeria by Newsgeek24(op): 9:19am On Jul 16, 2025
The Turkish government has warned that members of a terrorist group known as the Fethullah Terrorist Organisation exist in Nigeria and also operate in other countries around the world, Daily Watch Nigeria reports.

Turkish Ambassador-designate to Nigeria, Mehmet Poroy, disclosed this on Tuesday night in Abuja at a dinner organised by the Turkish Embassy to mark the country’s Democracy and National Unity Day.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the ceremony is held annually to mark the July 15, 2016, failed coup in Türkiye, which the so-called FETO terrorists allegedly orchestrated.

The Turkish government said the coup was successfully quelled by the collective resistance of its patriotic forces and citizens, who resisted the mutiny against the government of President Recep Erdoğan.

According to Ambassador Poroy, members of the Gülen movement, which sponsored the coup, are still being captured and arrested globally; hence, their presence in any country poses a serious national threat.

“They are still being captured and arrested today. The presence of such an organisation poses a threat to every country in which it operates.

“Unfortunately, the FETO terrorist organisation still maintains its activities in Nigeria, particularly in the fields of education and healthcare.

“We consistently inform our Nigerian friends about the nature and dangers of this organisation, and urge them to remain vigilant and cautious,” Poroy said.

The Turkish envoy stated that, through international cooperation, Turkey has successfully disrupted many FETO cells and networks operating in allied countries worldwide.

According to him, numerous institutions, especially schools that form part of FETO’s international network, have been taken over by Turkish institutions.

He, however, stressed that the group’s international structures have not been fully dismantled globally.

“The fact that new investigations and arrests into the organisation continue to be launched demonstrates the need for this struggle to be pursued with unwavering determination.

“In several countries, including Nigeria, FETO continues to pump its operations under the guise of humanitarian aid, education, healthcare, and interfaith dialogue.

“You must not forget that behind this humanitarian appearance lies an organisation that seeks to infiltrate the political and bureaucratic institutions of host countries,” Poroy warned.

NAN reports that the Gülen movement, (known as Hizmet or Service in Turk language), is purportedly a transnational, religious, educational, and social organisation, founded in late 1950.

Its founder, Fethullah Gülen, a Turkish Islamic scholar, died as a Turkish fugitive in October 2024 at the age of 83, in Pennsylvania, United States.

The Turkish government accuses Gülen of masterminding the 2016 bloody coup, which claimed at least 251 lives, and has officially designated the group as a global terrorist organisation.

Nine years after the coup, Türkiye has continued its aggressive global campaign against the group, saying it still operates worldwide, although the group has denied the terrorism tag.

Türkiye has been engaged in a massive global crackdown on the group, seizing or freezing billions of dollars of Gülen-linked assets and institutions, including schools, universities, foundations, associations, and companies.

NAN also reports that the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation; the Gulf Cooperation Council; alongside countries like Pakistan and Northern Cyprus have designated FETO as a terrorist organisation.

If Tinubu has already brought down terrorist group like IPOB and Boko Haram, I’m pretty sure he won’t flinch at handling FETO too, he’s no stranger to tackling tough groups.

What makes you think that IPOB is a terrorist group?
Re: Fethullah: Turkey Warns Of New Terrorist Group In Nigeria by U09ce:
This is more of a political statement than reality. The FETO are bitter rivals of the current Turkish government because they were accused of sponsoring a coup.
Part of the people been accused to be part of FETO in Nigeria are the owners of Nigerian Tulip International School. Some years back, diplomatic pressure from Turkey to Nigeria forced them to change the 'Turkish' in their name to 'Tulip'. The Turkish government were even pushing for the closure of the schools and other businesses. Nigeria has applied a lot of wisdom in handling the issue. I see no reason why an entity such NTIC which has been of immense contribution to Nigeria's private educational landscape should be closed down. Let Turkey free us abeg

Rubbish talk from Erdogan through the Turkish Embassy.

The so-called “FETO” is a made up name for a political group opposed to Erdogan’s plan to rule Turkey for life. If Fetullah Gulen was the terrorist that Erdogan claims he is, the US would have long surrendered him prior to his death

July 15 was the “anniversary” of the supposed 2016 “coup”.

Turkey however should focus on its illegal occupation of 38% of the island of Cyprus and the Cypriot agitation for freedom from the illegal occupying Turkish forces

This should bring Nigeria back to its original 3rd position in its global terrorism ranking

Well you guys showed "them" that Terrorism can be a political tool to swing power to a region, "They" did it in 2015 and you benefited from it, now they desperately want power again, so they are about to do it one more time, rinse and repeat. As you make your bed and all that.

Fethullah is another Islamic terrorism network.
They don't build network of education, technology, civilization, business, medication, robotics and medical engineering.
They only build network of killers, vandals, cannibals, terror.
Yet they boldly proclaim they are religion of peace. Maybe peace has different meaning from what I was thought.

And despite this and the other terrorist groups in Sokoto or so, Nigeria actually moved from 3rd to 8th on the global terrorist list. Damn! PBAT is silent workaholic. Doesn't make noise. Just policy development and implementation. What was Peter Obi's developmental blue print for Anambra in his 8th years?

PBAT as a governor of Lagos, had a blue print. A master plan. All successive governor's have been building on master plan. And Lagos is developing faster than other state cos of PBAT.

it is well with them.

The report said this terrorist organisation disguise the operations by providing humanitarian services in education l, healthcare and others.

I just hope Turkish schools and Hospitals in Abuja are not part of this group

There's no such group as FETO.
Erdogan and his puppets made it up using the name of his more intelligent archrival Fethullah Gulen to discredit his businesses all over the world.

In what way are schools and hospitals giving top notch services terrorist organizations?
