Grateful to Be Alive – A Cautionary Story

Honestly, I don’t even know where to start. All I can say is thank God I’m alive and back home. What I went through yesterday in Port Harcourt is still hard for me to believe.

Last week, a client reached out, saying he had a job for me. We discussed the project, came to an agreement that worked for him, and he asked me to come on Saturday — which happened to be election day. I told him I’d need part of my workmanship fee upfront so I could come with my boys, check out the site, and prepare properly. He refused, saying he couldn’t send money since we hadn’t worked together before. He promised to refund me if I found a way to get there.

Desperate to secure the job, I took a loan — with my dad standing as guarantor — and traveled to Port Harcourt by night bus on Sunday, hoping to get there early Monday morning. Unfortunately, the journey was delayed and I arrived late at night. I tried calling the client, but his phone was off, so I checked into a cheap hotel.

By 5 a.m., he finally called and said he’d be busy until 10 a.m. Later, he sent someone he claimed was his cousin to pick me up. As we were heading to the site, we were suddenly stopped by two men who started harassing us. Before I could understand what was happening, more men appeared. I realized too late that something was wrong.

I tried to fight my way out, but they overpowered me and beat me up. When I looked around, the supposed "cousin" was gone. That’s when it hit me: it was all a setup.

They took my phone and demanded my father's number. I explained that my family is just managing and I even had to borrow money to make the trip. They contacted my brother and demanded ₦5 million. I laughed — not because it was funny, but because it was absurd. Where would we even get such an amount?

Eventually, they extorted ₦200,000 from my brother and dumped me in the bush with my face covered and nothing but my shorts. Before leaving, they gave me ₦1,000.

Please, let this be a warning to those of us who risk traveling for jobs without knowing the full picture. If a client can’t even send you transport fare, think twice. Don’t put yourself in debt or danger. Right now, my dad and I are in debt of ₦300,000 — not including interest.

Despite everything, I’m still available for work. I’m still your humble guy — CM Interiors. This experience won’t stop me, but I had to share it. Stay safe out there.

⚠️ Please Read & Share – For Your Safety ⚠️

I want to share something very serious that recently happened to me — not for pity, but to protect others who might become victims too.

The man who contacted me about a job in Port Harcourt claimed to be Senator Allwell Heacho Onyeso. I can’t say for sure if it was truly him or someone using his name and identity to scam people and set them up. Either way, it led to one of the scariest experiences of my life.

I’m not posting this to accuse anyone without proof — I genuinely don’t know if it was him or if someone is trying to blackmail or impersonate him. But I am posting this because someone else out there could fall into the same trap.

If you’re in the business of taking jobs that require travel, please be careful. Always verify who you're dealing with. If a client refuses to send even a small transport fee or insists you travel under unclear arrangements, pause and think twice.

I was nearly kidnapped and put through hell because I was just trying to earn a living. If not for the grace of God, things could have ended very differently.

So I’m saying this from the heart:
Please stay alert, verify clients, and trust your instincts. If something feels off, it probably is.

Help share this message. You might save someone’s life.

Stay safe and may God protect us all.

We just have to rely on God for directions a d trust our instincts especially when that feeling of something being off sets in....

A purported client can still send transport and still do the evil intended to bring upon the contractor.

After COVID-19 someone who claimed to be a kind in Anambra state wanted to play a fast on on me with similar story like yours. He told me he has been seeing my projects on Facebook hence he wants me to handle his.

When I started asking the right questions about the project the whole thing wasn't adding up plus he was emphasizing so convincingly that money is not a problem to him that my workers should just be there, i just know say na Dem.

I just switched to pidgin I tell am say "oga I nor be mumu na, you think say I be ajebutter lady it was in the ghettos that I started my hustle and grew into a woman" baba ended the call quickly.

Next time don't be too desperate for a contract.
Asked the right questions about the project.
Ensure you are sure of how they knew about you or who referred you.
Asked security questions especially as regards to the complete address.
Tell them it's your company policy to send your colleagues in that area to check the site in person before you can come.
The discussion of money should come last even if they send you transport and hotel bill is still not a guarantee.
Remember that criminals upgrade their methods too and they are online mostly.

May God protect us always.

Thank God for your life. It has happened to someone here some years ago and he posted it somewhere here.
The criminals are online monitoring posts also. Main reason I understand when clients don't want their projects posted for security reasons even though I would have loved the extra publicity.
Some guy posts transaction details of jobs here to convince potential clients, I think it's dangerous to him and the clients. Criminals everywhere.

Mahogany vs HDF for internal doors — which one are you picking and why?
What would you look out for when making your choice?

Let’s argue it out! 👀👇

Looking forward to what our ogas got to say.

As an Architect, I will personally go for HDF. Reasons being it is more modern, asthetic, modular and easy to repair. Though Mahogany may be more durable and outlast HDF...the reality is that your home should get a renovation/retrofit at least once in 5 yrs

. Sorry bro. I have received countless calls from the same Port Harcourt for POP and stamping, asking me to fund my transport, which I declined. I am okay with my Lagos and Ibadan because I understand the terrain.

Mahogany wood is known for it's exceptional durability, longevity and beautiful aesthetic appeal. Environmental concern, colour inconsistencies and more importantly it's high cost should be considered.

HDF door is much more structurally stable and has minimal expansion and contraction compared to wooden door. HDF door, if done correctly it last longer (depending on how it is used and maintained), has more durability and gives a better finish.

For me, it's HDF door.

Stamped Concrete Installer Needed – Benin City

I need a skilled stamped concrete floor installer based in Benin to handle a 62 sqm job.
The project isn’t too big, and the client wants the work to start today or tomorrow.

I would’ve handled it myself, but I’m still recovering I’m feeling pain in my body and eyes, and honestly, it doesn’t make sense for me to travel all the way for a small project like this.

📍 Location: Benin City
📏 Size: 62 sqm
📆 Start Date: ASAP
📞 Contact: 09136285173

If you’re in Benin, available, and can deliver clean work, send me a DM and I’ll link you up with the client directly.

Let’s get it done. Thanks.

⚠️ Important Update – Please Read & Share ⚠️

I just recovered one of my SIM cards that was linked to my iCloud, and I was able to log into my iCloud using my mom’s Android phone.

While going through my saved data, I found a screenshot of the number that first texted me about the “job” the one that led to everything I went through in Port Harcourt.

I’m sharing it here so we can all stay alert. If this same number contacts you claiming to offer work, please be careful and double-check everything. Don’t fall for it. It might be part of the same setup.

📱 If you’ve received messages from this number or something similar, help share this post. It could save someone else from walking into danger.

Stay safe out there, my people. 🙏 – CM Interior
