Speaking on Channels TV, UNICAL VC Prof. Florence Obi blamed top officials including the Dean, Provost, and Admissions Officer for the over admission crisis in the university’s Dentistry programme, stating that consequences will follow.

This one just come out..this is been going on in over all the public institutions in the country.
Just that this one is bold enough to speak out..just watch how those she called out will gang up for her removal.. pathetic.


Same thing going on in the civil service sector NNPC and the likes..it's not new..next topic please.

These people shouldn't rubbish the image of our universities. That's one of the few institutions the world still has regards for. At least we don't have to do any PGD before studying master's degree and MBA outside Nigeria. Don't wash your dirty linens in public.

This should rectified immediately. University departments should not work in isolation , but in tandem.

We all have our collective roles to play if we want things to get better in this country.

As far back as 17 years ago, when I was in school, I had a room mate who spent 6 solid years in Unijos studying Pharmacy. At the end of the program, they were told their accreditation was withdrawn and so, they couldn't graduate.

In reality, Unijos never had the accreditation. They admitted students in the hope that Unijos would get full accreditation before the students conclude their studies.

After wasting his years, he had to come back down south to restart his University education in the Biological sciences.

But why all denials and counter denials on medical issues when Nigeria is complaining of shortage of medical manpower and medical personnel brain drains.
Train these students however you want to and make them available for Nigerians. Which is 10 as quota for a University of Calabar for Dentistry and Dental surgery? We're not yet serious in Nigeria

This is wrong. She's from Northern Cross River (Atam) and not Igbo. Since inception, no non-Cross Rivieran has ever been elected as a VC, but there's been lots of DVCs from Igbo, Yoruba, etc

What's the way forward for the 120 students that have invested their resources into Dentistry and are having just few months to become Doctors

This is the main question ..

Saying you will move them to another program is UNACCEPTABLE!

Either you go through the hard way, meet the Minister of Education...turn it to National Emergency and let the Minister of Education seek Presidential waiver from the Council for these children to finish their study.

We need Doctors.

If we feel the infrastructure they have been trained with other the years is inadequate...subject then to additional makeshift trainings...maybe 6months ...instead of just cancelling their efforts!

Madam VC...do something extraordinary please!

Firstly CrossRiver State bears Obi , former governor Liel Imoke is from that part.
Secondly, your narratives are false, there are many vice chancellor of non indigenes everywhere in Nigeria even South east universities. It's not rule, the most qualified takes. It is always advertised.

Dentist are hot cake in the west. Instead of fighting over where admission goalposts should be, let them encourage and train the dentists so they can end up as forex earners for africa. Is like Nigeria is deeply cursed with something.

Illegally admitted students shouldn't have matric number and shouldn't be able to create account on the school website.

128 students as against 10,that is a super fraud ,there is no known school of dentistry that admits that number arround the globe. To make matters worse some of them are asking to be transferred to medicine and surgery. That is dangerous for Nigeria would be patients because their training is inadequateo.Unical us always in the news for the wrong reason,.
