While the Igbo people possess incredible wealth, knowledge, and entrepreneurial power, the ability to translate these into comprehensive regional development has been severely constrained.

What is "Respect your host"?

Does "respect" mean that Igbos and their interests should not be seen and or heard. They should not live freely in their country? They should not buy properties? They should not vote and be voted for? They should not freely associate among themselves and have a leader in their various cultural and ethnic unions?

Are you serious?

How do they "Disrespect" their hosts? How?

Instead of condemning what is wrong...as a Civilised person...you are there bringing shame to our collective humanity
Respect means don't call a place no man's land and start chest beating that all the indigenes there are tenants while you and your people are there landlords. It's never done, not in China, Turkey, Russia or majority of European countries. The disrespect only fueled the disdain and if we're being honest, charity should begin at home right? When will a Yoruba person be allowed to contest for local government chairman of an Eastern state not to talk of governor?

I mean if we're talking about living freely in the country and being seen/heard, what's good for the goose should also be alright for the gander!

When you stop collecting from non Igbo Businesses in Owerri, Awka, Enugu, Abakaliki and Umuahia. If you don't want to pay tax in Lagos cos Lagosians changed street names, pack your businesses and leave. We did not beg you to establish business here.
How many non Igbo businesses are in SouthEast?? None. You lots hardly travel to other regions and you still expect to have an influence there. Igboland is 99.9% Igbo dominated.

Haha! This is bitterness of the highest order. I don't blame them shaaaaa ...instead, I blame Ndi Igbo that have refused to relocate south east.....let Ndi Igbo relocate and fix the eastern part of Nigeria, as there is no hope residing in Lagos and other parts that are unfriendly and hostile to them. Ndi Igbo will be fine again!!!
Very hostile, toxic and envious environment. It's quite unfortunate and sad.

This is a bit of a stupid writeup. As an Igbo man, you should be annoyed that most of your higher quality women are choosing to marry outside their ethnicity. You would never see Fulanis brag with something like this because it is an affront on the males of a group if their females are choosing to marry people of another group.
It's not straightforward though. Most Igbo men still marry Igbo women, about 98% or at most SS. We know a demographic or tribe Igbo men hardly marry from.

That's no problem. You can't be enjoying the comfort that my land , my govt and policies give you as a non indigenous people and still hate me. So, if you Wana hate me, you have to stop benefiting from me by leaving my land. And hate me from afar.
And you have been drinking crude oil and gas in the Niger delta region since 1960 to develop what you call your land.
Where in Nigeria's constitution was indegene mentioned? Educated illiterates who don't understand that in a country, every citizen is entitled to invest and settle anywhere in the country.

Let them be marrying from Igboland. It's allowed but we will never marry from theirs. Igbo culture can still be exported to other regions for inclusiveness.

Electoral victories or Political advantage goes hand in hand with Numerical strength!

How many are Yorubas or Hausas in the SouthEast. Out of a probable population of a Total of 25 million People living in the 5 SE states,Yorubas are not up to 60,000 in the entire SE!! less than 0.01%!

How do you expect them to hope to contest elections.

Nobody is stopping them if they give it a shot!!

Now to the issue of "no man's land";

Just because a few ill-informed people...a few actually(even on Nairaland)...spoke carelessly in an attempt to remind people that Lagos, being a former FCT, is a melting pot of All Nigerians, does not mean that Trouble makers should start bandieng the lie that the entire Igbos sees Lagos as a "No man's land"

It' is the Handiwork of divisive politics....using vile propaganda...that is pushing that narrative. Many are falling for it...you inclusive.

Igbos do not see Lagos as "no man's Land" since time immemorial(That's why they don't contest for governorship post despite having the constitutional right and the numerical strength.GRV is not Igbo oo)

So when divisive politicians take advantage of a misunderstood comment by one or two non-indigenes,this is what you get.

See?

Who is taking about prostrating who needs your prostrations? We are talking about one thing he is saying what is irrelevant. When you come to somebody's land and they open their doors for you, sold land to you because of that you want to claim the land as your own that is total disrespect. The same thing they are doing in Ghana. I have lived in Port Harcourt for years built my house and have lands but I have never claimed one day that the land is now my own neither have seen any other person doing that. I still have great respect for my host. Mind we not talking about non-Yoruba we are talking about easterners, other tribes don't do that na only una!
That’s exactly what I’m asking you. Which particular non Yoruba has come to claim you land or you are working with hear say?

See?
You're still not acknowledging the crucifix of the matter.....Whether it is one or 10 or even 10,000 people that repeated that line of no man's land, the group as a whole should have come out with a statement that rebukes it......You don't go to an event, your family insults the host and you expect it not to reflect on you! What would it cost Igbo leaders to debunk such statement? Rather, what we see is more fuel being added to the fire as evidenced by the last election, after winning the presidential votes in Lagos, una still use that tired line of Lagos na no man's land resulting in the overwhelming rebuff in the governship election.

Further your issue of strength in numbers is laughable, we are talking about the mere chance to contest at a primary you're talking about actually winning. Like seriously? You've got to reach the table first before you can eat, in SE non Easterners won't even be allowed to reach that table! Okay even if politics na strength in numbers like you said, what of chieftancy? What of owning land? Over 80% of Eastern land is considered off limits to Yorubas or Northerners.....Where's the sense in that?

Overall, respect is reciprocal, Lagos has been far more acccomodating to y'all than y'all have been accomodating to outsiders when it comes to political matters,

You are now saying Igbos don't see Lagos as no man's land you are in denial! What have they been saying all these while?
If Igbos can contest in Lagos because they have numerical advantage than Yoruba in the east is that also the reason most eastern states don't sell their lands to non indigenous people? Or do they need numerical advantage to buy land. You people are all over Nigeria because they welcome you, sold land for you to grow your business, but the same cannot be said about easterners, hence the reason for their low population. Tell me the reason why you have a lot of Yorubas in Rivers State and Delta State?

It should be condemned in all ramification and it is definately in bad taste with a tribal bias.

All this division started after Peter Obi won the Presidential Elections in Lagos !

Haba ! I am a Yoruba Lagosian, over 80% of my friends are Igbo's and we never lived like this in Lagos State.!
No anywhere in the world you'll open your mouth and say their land belongs to nobody and you expect them to keep quiet and not act for the protection of their land and future generations... if yoruba in ibo or hausa land tried the same, they see the same.... its a lesson to us all, and I don't blame their actions.

Hatred. But leave them. Very soon, the western ( Europe and America) will use same against them. They forgot the number of Yoruba people holding key positions in foreign countries. Kemi Badehnock is a yoruba lady but a member of parliament in the UK. Canada has stopped admitting ex police officers from Nigeria into their country, very soon it will spread to all western countries. This ethnic bigotry will equally resonate in Europe soon.
The world hears them.
Unknown to them, they give cause to agitation for Restoration of Biafra. Many of their forefathers joined Arewa soldiers to fight against Biafra. 55 years after war ended, see the level of ethnic bigotry they exhibit.

MBA street to Sanwo-Olu Road ? ! Mba , Mbanu ! cheesy
Is this right though ? No it's not . It's not right that past Lagos administration granted license to street names in Yoruba land to about fifteen non Yorubas in one local government alone where I doubt the whole five East states have up to 15 streets named after Yoruba man that's not a national hero or statesman . cry

I am not a tribal bigot. This is not just a personal declaration, but a fundamental truth about what it means to be truly Ekiti. My opinions regarding Igboland, garnered not from distant reports or casual conversations, but from a deeply personal and immersive experience. Having spent significant formative years in the South-East of Nigeria, my perspective on the region is truly rooted in lived reality.

My journeys from the South-West to the South-East were frequent, and my immersion in the culture began during my secondary school education at Federal Government College, Okigwe, Imo State. This was further solidified by my university education at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Enugu State. It was during these years that I forged deep friendships with Igbo people, lived among them, and came to truly understand the dynamics of the region. Therefore, my candid opinion about Igboland is not based on hearsay, but on firsthand knowledge.

In spite of its present infrastructure and undeniable commercial vibrancy, Onitsha, for instance, is yet to truly reach its full potential. This isn't a criticism of its current state, but rather a reflection of the staggering, almost boundless potential of the Igbo people themselves. Their industriousness, resilience, entrepreneurial spirit, and ingenuity are truly remarkable. One can only imagine what the region could become if fully unburdened and allowed to flourish without impediment.

The undeniable truth, gleaned from my time living and studying there, is that the Igbo people, despite their inherent capabilities and drive, are severely constrained. There are systemic limitations and factors that prevent the full blossoming of their potential, hindering the kind of exponential growth and development that their human capital ought to generate.

This observation isn't exclusive to Igboland. If we consider Lagos State, often lauded as the most developed state in Nigeria, it too, despite concerted efforts and significant resources, is yet to achieve true "mega-city" status on a global scale. This broader national context only serves to underscore the deep-seated challenges and constraints that hold back even the most promising regions in Nigeria, making the situation in Igboland, with its unique set of challenges, all the more poignant.
