Just like 3rd mainland bridge is officially named IBB bridge but people still call it 3rd mainland bridge.

2nd Niger Bridge has not been officially named after him. People just gave it that name and some government officials nominated it, but it has not been officially renamed.

This is not official and Federal Government did not sanction it. The Second Niger bridge still remain known as the Second Niger Bridge officially.

I believe that the reason why the Borno State Government was involved in the funeral and the reason why University of Maiduguri was named after him is because Muhammadu Buhari's mother was from Borno State.

However, I believe that these 3 facilities should also be named after him.

It wasn't officially named after him. The official name is still Second Niger Bridge.

The rename of uni maid is appropriate. I see people who are not from borno complaining, as if they care. They don't actually, just pained that a man they hate so much was given such recognition in death.

By that token the 3rd mainland bridge was not officially named after Babangida because it is still referred to in official documents as 3rd mainland bridge.

This is how I see it.
Either
1: It was named but not gazetted in which case it is not technically official
2: it was named and gazetted but in our anyhowness it is still referred to as 2nd Niger bridge.



By the same token, it would be interesting to know if for instance the Bola Ahmed Tinubu international conference center renamed by Wike was gazetted. If not the only difference between that and the 2nd Niger Bridge is a sign with the name was out on the building.

Either way there is a lot of sloppiness in the way we do things in Nigeria. I wouldn’t be surprised if there is an official gazette renaming it to Mohammad Buhari bridge. Why do I say so? Because Fashola is a lawyer and a SAN raised in the era when people understood the processes of officialdom. Fashola having named it himself, having consulted with the governors of Anambra and Delta and while Buhari expressed surprise, there is no suggestion he rejected the naming. Therefore I expect a man like Fashola to have followed through on the paperwork. That people in the ministry refer to it today as 2nd Niger bridge is neither here nor there. Our level of anyhowness is legendary in this country. Gone are the days where only the best were in the civil service.

Bottom line: I don’t know what the official name is as at today but I would not be surprised if there is an official gazette renaming the bridge.

Like I said there is probably no official gazetted renaming the international conference center just as there might actually be an official gazetted renaming the 2nd Niger bridge. This is Nigeria we do things anyhow. You can’t even trust the newspaper reports these day because just like the civil servants and universities they are manned by poorly educated quacks who couldn’t get a good paying job in the banks or oil companies.

2) Katsina Train Station:

The Kano-Maradi rail line had been proposed by previous governments, but it was his government that actually started construction. Buhari was also from Katsina State and it would be perfect if the Katsina Train Station is named after him.

3) The NDDC Headquarters building in Port-Harcourt:

The land was acquired in 1996 (when the agency was known as OMPADEC), but nothing was built on it. The agency continued to operate from rented quarters. In fact, rather than connect the old headquarters to the national grid, they kept buying diesel for its generators. It was Buhari's government that built the new headquarters and he commissioned it in 2021 (25 years after the land was bought), so it should be named after him.

By the way, 3rd Mainland Bridge is not officially Ibrahim Babangida Bridge.

I watched the commissioning of that bridge and what was renamed was only the stretch from Ebute Metta to Oworonshoki, not the entire bridge.
