We’re Grateful To Those Who Have Forgiven Our Father– Buhari’s Daughters by Islie(op): 10:57am On Jul 18, 2025
As the mourning over the death of former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari continues, his daughters said they thanked those who forgave their father.

Aisha Hanan Buhari and Hadiza Muhammadu Buhari, who spoke to BBC Hausa, expressed their delight in those who forgave their father, who served the country in different capacities.

Muhammadu Buhari died on Sunday in a London hospital after a long battle with illness. Those close to the deceased described him as a friendly and loving person with a deep love for his family.

However, Aisha, popularly known as Hanan Buhari, who is one of his younger children, also expressed the grief she felt after the death of her father.

Hanan said that losing her father was like losing a part of her body.

“What I will miss most about him is his sense of humour. I look up to him as a part of me,” she explained.
Hanan also thanked Nigerians who forgave their father, saying, “We have nothing to say to them except thank you, thank God.”

She added that the deceased had good intentions towards Nigerians, describing him as “one of the common people”.

“That disciplined me to study, pray, and do things that made us happy,” she said.
One of his eldest children, Hadiza Muhammadu Buhari, known as Nana, revealed to the BBC Hausa some of her father’s good qualities “that not everyone knows about”.

Nana, the daughter of the deceased’s ex-wife to Buhari, said her father was filled with love for Nigerians.

“During his treatment, I went to London to check on him. After he got better, I decided to return to Nigeria. When I told him, ‘Dad, I’m going,’ he said, ‘Where are you going?”

“I told him I was returning to Nigeria, and he said, ‘Greet Nigerians,” she explained.
When asked what her father called her before his demise, Nana said, “He called me Madam Nana. We chat, joke, and laugh together.”

She said the deceased had raised them to avoid rights that were not theirs.
“I remember once he gave us money to buy some textbooks. After I bought some, I had some change, so I bought some sweets…”

“After I returned and told him, and gave him the rest of the change, he told me, Nana, that’s not good. If you are sent to buy something with money, when you return, give the change back to the person who sent it, and if he takes it and gives it to you, you can accept it. Do not touch anything that is not yours.

Keep the trust and do not take away someone else’s rights,” said Nana.

She described her father as humorous, social, and easygoing. “He is a patient and tolerant person. Dad doesn’t like noise.

You can’t insult him and he will retaliate, unless he keeps an eye on you,” she said.

You people knew that your father was a monumental disaster of unparalleled proportions, yet you didn't compel him to step aside in 2019?

When Escobar's tenure is over, I am sure he will receive worse words for his maladministration. Those close to him should tell him to jettison his second-term ambition now because nobody will forgive him..even if he asks for it.

I'm sure they're not referring to those who stabbed him at the back and said he messed up the country after praising him as the best for 8 years

But seriously go look at the eulogies Yar'Adua got from Nigerians on his son’s wedding. Nigerians are not blind to fair, good leadership. It's a legacy the elites must focus on leaving behind. You should be bold to say "I served my country to the best of my abilities and didn't steal from it or do what I didn't think was in its best interest".

That is how it should be. A lord should rule over his peasants with a hard hand, and they must forgive him and pray for his soul after he has passed way. Then his children are elevated to rule over these people again, and they will repeat the punishment on the heads of these people, who will forgive again and again as they serve.

He does not owe anyone an apology. He did what he thought was good for the country. Sometimes you make hard decisions.

Why I detest the girl child. They are so weak.

You don’t need to be grateful for anything. Your dad was a great man to many too.

No way he could have been the best to all. He did his oath. If anyone feels troubled, then he/she should go make a case with your dad in the afterlife.

This is so disappointing and a shame to father’s legacy.

Bending over for cowards who can never be opportune to lace the boots of your late Dad.

If God permits, Tinubu will not smell 2nd term of wastefulness. Some people are tormented by tribal and religious malady in Nigeria. That's why they keep pulling their ignorance over our eyes.

I think the lesson from Buhari's sojourns in power is that leaders with good intentions are clearly not enough for a country as diverse and dynamic as Nigeria.

Clearly one needs to have clear goals and literally bulldoze anyone that gets in your way...it pains me to say Obasanjo achieved far more than him in retrospect, as I really do not believe Obasanjo is the better individual.

Most fathers including PMBuhari are loving, disciplinarians and sacrificial when it comes to their children. However, the pains of most Nigerians is not about your father but the backwardness we are put as a nation by former and serving leaders of this country including the late former president.
