Please i dont know if this is true.
Someone said the rules have been changed.
That now if you get married after copr has been given.
And u plan to now move to canada with ur newly wedded wife.
That they will recalculate the score.
If you get married after AOR, your CRS score won’t be recalculated. However, if you were already married and declared your spouse as non-accompanying just to boost your CRS, then try to add them after AOR, IRCC sees this as manipulation and is actively discouraging such practices.

Hi guys. I submitted my application for pr Dec last year. I've been having some delays with Naija passport office here in London about renewing passport of my dependants. Long and short is; my medicals, eligibility and biometrics have all been completed as seen on the tracker. Please how long on average does background checks take to complete.

Congratulations.

You don't need so much really, pack your essentials, personal belongings, sort temporary accommodation if you can't get permanent one before landing. People talk about packing food, I disagree with that because there is everything in Canada, you just need to know the name it's called in English and where to get some in Asian stores and African stores. The immigration and welcome process should be easy. The airport people are usually very helpful.

You can use Service Canada desk in the airport once you land and finish with Immigration to get your SIN immediately. We did that. You can even open your bank account at the airport also, if you go to the city, you may require to book appointment.

Everything you need will be given to you, You can also use the ARRIVECAN APP. If you have specifics, you may ask.

All the best

Hello Everyone,
My partner and I got confirmed for Canada Express Entry.

We're landing in Ontario on the 25th. 10 days time.

I have been looking for a community that can help with the all the information I need before landing. Spoken to a few friends there already but I'm not sure I have all the information.

I need like a to do list before and during landing at the airport so I don't land and start wishing I should have done certain things before landing or before leaving the airport.

Please share anything helpful. I don't want to miss out any hack or tips.

I will disagree with you on food packing grin Unless you have a job already before arriving in Canada or enough Canadian dollars to spend on african food in african stores,it is Better to pack as much food as a new arrival in canada especially if you are coming with your family, for example 100grams of crayfish is 9dollars and red shrimp 150 grams that is 14 dollars in canada ,one painter of crayfish is about 8000 to10,000 naira, coming with one painter of crayfish to canada from Nigeria would have saved the person 150 to 200 dollars..this is for crayfish alone, imagine all your food pack could save 1000 dollars, instead of patronising folks doing food cargo, using it as side hustle in canada ..
For those who understand the system or who are already in the system and how things are done in canada , 🇨🇦 bank accounts can be opened online with your mobile phones in canada without even stepping a foot In the bank, debit card will be sent to your address or go to your nearest bank branch and take your debit card no need to book appointment..

Yes, you can pass October if you start with studies now. Learning resources offer you classroom experience while you can self-study. Reach out if in need, we can assist.

Sorry, no one can tell you this for certain. You can follow the options on page 1 post 6 if your application has taken a while. In the meantime are your passports valid or already expired? Have you been sent an ADR for renewal? As far as I know they will not finalise with expired or less than 6 months to expiry passports.

Time to port to living in Canada thread....lots of info there. Start on page 1, second post: https://www.nairaland.com/4933819/living-canada-life-canadian-immigrant#74340215

This list below may also help. In truth everything is probably available here just more expensive.

https://www.nairaland.com/5021090/transitioning-ppr-landing-canada#75695217

In my personal experience-
* don't buy winter wear and boots from Nigeria
* have soft/electronic copies of all your paper work and certifications, etc
*driving history FRSC letter no longer required, your valid and original DL will work to show driving history. No claims from Nigeria did not reduce my auto insurance either so maybe don't bother.
*forget those dry leaves, you can buy frozen in stores - leave out anything with chicken or beef.
*focus more time on job hunting and certifications
*attend the sessions for newcomers to get information - they are free and designed specifically for you. Link to them on page 1 post 6 - preparing for life in Canada

Re: Canadian Express Entry/Federal Skilled Worker Program - Connect Here Part 11 by ebixxx:
To put it plainly, her medical degree from "Nigeria" alone is only good for getting back into practice.

In the eyes of employers in Canada, it does not mean anything (putting it plainly) by itself.

Based on her work experience, she would have gotten transferrable skills. Those are what she can use to fit into any field she can fit into.

Ability to communicate epathetically and care for patients of diverse populations is what allows doctors from Nigeria fit easily into Care (Support worker) roles.

If she was a head of a hospital, highlighting her managerial skills could earn her leadership roles in related fields.

If she did a lot of research, and has significant publications to highlight her proven research skill, there are opportunities in research in many organizations (pharmaceuticals, etc.).

A Medical degree alone would not get her to be considered to teach. Nonetheless, if she was a Medical Doctor who was also lecturing in a Medical University, that experience could be highlighted to explore teaching opportunities.

In Canada, it is more of your transferrable skill that determine what opportunities you can explore. Not like Nigeria where the focus is more on Paper Qualifications.

Sadly also, your experience from Nigeria will sometimes be looked down on and doubted, as sadly, yahoo boys and our politicians are not doing us so much good in terms of credibility; it is not uncommon to get some comments in Rural areas stating how they heard Nigerians fake their degrees, including medical degrees (you will not blame them for thinking that way, when they had to watch our president's Chicago University degree being called to question).
Your wife will have to prove herself to get the respect she deserves and that ususally means starting at the bottom and working her way to the top.

The settlement organizations in various provinces will do a good job in helping her explore her transferrable skills.

My advise if for a Doctor who loved medicine, she will not find joy / fulfillment doing anything else. Imagine being a consultant physician or surgeon from Nigeria and someone who is yet to finish high school is your boss. Not in every work place though. That tells you how low one sometimes would have to stoop to get cash to keep the family going to later conquer (doing jobs that do not require even highschool certificates).
So, best to help her work her way back into practice as soon as she can.

If she did not enjoy medical practice and is looking to explore other options, then the sky is her limit. With her smarts to survive medical school in Nigeria with the plenty saddistic lecturers in Medical Schools at different stages, she can excel in any field. Data analytics / Medical Informatics in an area I have seen Physicians excel in. Good prospects (https://www.ziprecruiter.com/Salaries/Health-Informatics-Salary-in-Calgary,AB). Also, people who did not like medicine or do not want to go through the hassle of getting back into practice just yet, and do not mind pivotting into other health care related fields, Advanced Care Paramedics is quite good for those who like the rush of emergency care and it pays okay (https://www.glassdoor.ca/Salaries/calgary-ab-advanced-care-paramedic-salary-SRCH_IL.0,10_IM970_KO11,34.htm).
Nursing used to be overated, but they get overworked for not so much. Not as lucrative and fulfiling in Canada as it is in the US (just my opinion and that of some who have explored this route and regret it). Sadly, all these routes, require taking up student loans and going back to school / study.

I wish you and yours the best. And I pray God guides you to make the best decision for your family.

Judasiscarriot:
Thank you so much, we remain grateful for your insightful advise.

Please, what are the ''If she can study well while working, there are jobs she can do that do not require any course (except CPR certification). Not prestigious jobs, but here in Canada, there is dignity of labor, so no one truly cares what you do''. Please, with the exception of health care, which we are all aware of, what other temp job can she easily be eligible for with her medical degree, without going back to school? Can she be a teacher? or

The advise

Apart from the mandatory documents for self-employment, such as Business Registration Certificates, Tax documents, etc did you add reference letters from your clients/business partners, ID cards, invoices/receipts of goods and services provided, bank statements that shows proof of business with your clients etc..? The latter are not listed as required documents on the IRCC website but they go a long way in solidifying your business and convincing the VO. Just in case you are wondering, I am also a self-employed applicant, also CEC candidate and I submitted everything I could lay my hands on to prove my business. BTW, most of the things listed in the previous replies are not the issues because your CEC eligibility is not based on your self-employed work experience i.e. your self-employed experience was not acquired in Canada.
Can I please message you about application as a self employed individual. I’d really appreciate it. I’ve followed you.

Thank you. Been dragging my leg for awhile to get back into the pool.
I’ve been here since 2017 as a university student.
Got ITA in this draw but residing in the UK now.
For UK residents; has anyone used Cash or stocks and shares ISA as POF? If yes, did you have any issues with the Visa processing?
Also, do I need Nigeria PCC? Haven’t been in Nigeria since 2022.

Although some UK people said UK banks don't give letters and they used their bank statements...I think its best to give IRCC what they asked for. Where this is not possible then write a LOE with supporting docs that explain why.

Useful for for general express entry info...and "usefuller" for those with ITA preparing docs to submit.

Yes, he can use the teaching experience for his Canada immigration profile, even without an education degree — as long as the job was paid and full-time, and his duties match an eligible NOC.

He may not qualify under the “Secondary School Teacher” NOC (41220) since that usually requires a degree in education. But he might qualify under “Teacher Assistant” (NOC 43100) or another similar NOC, depending on what exactly he does at the school.

correct me if I am wrong but yes Law degree is a social science so with 43100 - Elementary and secondary school teacher assistants he is good

He should be in the pool and hope he gets called all the best
