I don't know why we concentrate our efforts so much on the federal government when the states are receiving massive revenue for the federal government? Those guys have seriously jazzed us that we don't reason their matter at all. What are they doing with the massive revenue they receive form FG |

lezan:Isn't this what Nigerians against subsidy removal have always been sceptical about? The governors have always embezzled funds and subsidy was the only direct benefit for most citizens. You take out benefits that previously acrued to the citizens and handed them over to the governors and then turn around to blame the citizens. What is the Federal government doing with its own share of the allocation? |

LOL...3.4 trillion naira. Nigeria needs to get off oil. Once we do that, we can be sharing something like 50 trillion naira or more monthly, and it would be our money. But people like Codetemplarr no see am. They want free fuel, and free subsidy. Nigeria must remove apc and tinubu, and vote in a leader who will make us an industrial nation like china , korea and germany and japan. It is our only hope. |

AMINDA:How long will you guys open up your minds even though you have refused to be enlightened. You guys need to let go of your rigid mindsets. The Government closest to the grassroots are the Local Governments first and then the State Governments, and as such, these two tiers of Government are best positioned to bring developmental governance to the people. How do you expect the federal government bypass the state and local government and reach you directly in a country where there's no central data?. In the last Administration when Madam Sadiq Umar, the minister of humanitarian and disaster claimed to have distributed billions of naira to the less privilege, there was a lot of mess around her claims as there was neither lists released or proofs to back up her claims. She was one of the most controversial and fraudulent minister to have occupied that office. Nigerians are still calling for her prosecution. How many people received the money she said he distributed? We were coming from a situation whereby we were borrowing to pay for subsidy, at a point, NNPCL was owing their creditors a whooping $6billion that they were no longer selling fuel to us. That was the period long queues retuned to all filling stations during the time of 2023 elections up till after the election. So, what then was the essence of paying subsidy?. Any money that accrue from oil belongs to the federation, so the funds removed from oil subsidy goes directly into the federation account where it's shared among the federal, state and local government. The money from oil does not belong to the federal government, rather, it belongs to the federation. The money trickles down to the state and local government including the FCT through the monthly FAAC which are meant for grassroot development and this is where you have to hold your Governors and representatives to account. -Kiss the truth! |

nairalanda1:I think there is a lot of kids on this forum lately. What's the meaning of "get off oil"?. Which country has oil and is getting off it?, If anything, they are drilling more. Fossil fuel will remain relevant till very long time to come. And I noticed a lot of people here display a lot of ignorance a lot of times. Governance is not magic, it's a process, moreso when the industrial sector had been rendered comatose for over four decades. And you expect a magic in two, three or four years of Tinubu's Government?, that's quite ridiculous. Tinubu was not the President who killed your textile industry, automobile, aviation, shipping, power, manufacturing industry, refineries etc. It wasn't under Tinubu, Nigeria became a dumping ground for cheap and substandard goods from China or fake drugs. As we speak, there's ongoing reforms to revolutionize the industrial sector, there's a reform for power alternatives which will enable private investors and entrepreneurs generate power in industrial clusters by virtue of the new electricity law. I am privy to some private investors already applying for licence under the State's regulatory commission which the law has empowered. The FG is also installing solar systems at various local markets that specialize on producing products on industrial scale. The gas revolution of the administration is also a game changer, the AKK gas pipeline is already at 70% completion and when it fully completed, there will be massive industrial revitalization in the North. When you neither follow Government policies nor its implementation, many valuable information fly over your head. -Kiss the truth! |

TimeManager:Getting off oil means getting from oil forming most of our revenue, and becoming an economy that uses its available natural resources to make goods that the world needs. Our leaders, including the current one have talked about it, but most of them leave office without doing anything about it. AM sure you will get angry with me, but the sad truth is, NIgerians are not ready to run a manufacutring economy, be it obident, tinubu supporter, gej supporter, buhari supporter, etc. Even the idea of biafra is basically one tribe gets access to oil money which it would use to develop an import based economy. You talk about textiles and so on, all of them failed because they were protected from competing with the external world. Once the world market opened up in the 1990's , problems started. And many of them relied too much on imported components and raw materials that should have been made in nigeria. At the end, I am yet to see any government that is serious about getting nigeria from being a sharing money economy to being a producer economy. Calling me a kid does not change that fact. Good afternoon. |

But the real people were the powerful few sabotaging the process and they are everywhere and in every region. And truth is govt cannot fight them headon without removing subsidy alas every other well meaning citizen suffers for their sins. Without mincing the truth, Nigeria as a whole is a crime scene, we need to invest to educate ourselves that it pays to be honest and do the right thing. Even the ordinary citizen that didn't benefit from the subsidy is in one way or the other contributing to the decay in d society, if he has d means to steal subsidy money he would without blinking . After all, we say govt money na free money no be anybody papa money ! But see where we found ourselves AMINDA: |

nairalanda1:Stop trying to be half smart, twisting simple English when you've been caught. Get of oil means we should leave oil or come off it. In this context, it means to be detached or removed from oil, which is practically globally impossible. You're just like an arm chair analysts talking from your fantasy. According to TimeManager, governance is not where you wave a magic wand, it is systematic and time driven.

AMINDA:Every government PAST and present borrows millions and billions because 80% of our government's revenue comes from oil, and most of the time, the oil price is not where we want it to be. This year, the budget was set on the premise that oil would be 75 dollars per barrel at least. Unfortunately, oil fell below that from January to the time of the Israel Iran war. And once that was over, oil fell again, and that meant that borrowing was needed, otherwise government won;t be able to pay salaries, wages, contractor fees, or even release forex for imports and naira defence. Same issue with every government, even the ones you supported in the past. And the ones they support now. Because we rely too much on oil. The problem is, APC , and ADC/PDP have no plan to get us off our dependency on oil. Taxation only covers 30-44% of nigerians, and any attempt to expand this to non-taxed or to raise taxes is always met with protests, and as for diversificaiton....well, PDP did not do well in that area, and 10 years after Osibanjo's speech where he promised diversificaiton, neither has APC. The scary thing is that if we want a budget where we won't take loans, oil has to be 130-150 dollars per barrel for the whole 1 year. Because, even assuming a world where corruption was not exisitng in nigeria, the revenue from 1.3-1.8 million barrels of oil per day is not enough to pay for everything, unless the oil price was that high. We have to not just vote out APC in 2027, we have to vote in a government that would prioritise diversification and commence long term plans towards an industrialized NIgeria. Or if we must vote APC,and or ADC/pdp...WE got to put pressure on them to do those things. |
