PDPGuy:
I guess, as the commentator alluded to, that the coach may have decided to stick with the core of the side that competed at the last junior Afrobasket, for cohesion purposes.

But she shouldn’t try that again in the next game lol
Then she's not a serious person. Those players weren't exactly good. They just played a poorer opponent in Mali. They literally shot 30% from the field in that final and averaged about the same the entire tournament.

The world cup means the level of competition is different and way better than what they faced in Afrobasket. The talent level is way better and many of these girls are either enrolled in top colleges in the US or are already playing professionally in Europe. Our girls who are attached to clubs in Nigeria do not even have a functional league. Let's be serious please.
Re: Nigeria Basketball Thread! by lovewins:
Fun Fact

Stanford is the D1 program with the most Nigerian by far. (I stand corrected)

Currently have 4 Nigerian in their roster for next season.

1. Nunu Agara
2. Shay Ijiwoye
3. Kennedy Umeh
4. Nora Ezike

Agreed with your points. During the Afrobasket, I noticed that the girls had horrible spacing in their offensive play, and instead passing to the open player in and around the paint, the ball handler would rather try to make difficult shots.

Although our FG% was 35%, it would have been around 48% if that first half didn’t happen. Definitely, need all the best players from the start in the next game against Canada
Re: Nigeria Basketball Thread! by PDPGuy(op): 4:19pm On Jul 12, 2025
Junior D’Tigress will take on Canada, tomorrow, at 1:30pm Nigerian time.

It will be another tough test for the Nigerian girls, after the Canadians had defeated Portugal by a whopping 39 points 🤯🤯
Re: Nigeria Basketball Thread! by PDPGuy(op): 2:11am On Jul 13, 2025
I just discovered that 14 of the 16 teams are guaranteed a place in the round of 16, that could be a reason why Coach Negedu gambled with benching her best players in the first half 😂

Nonetheless, if the Junior D’Tigress finish 1st or 2nd in the group, they would likely face Hungary or South Korea in the round of 16; and if they advance, will likely face Spain or Japan in the quarterfinals…
Re: Nigeria Basketball Thread! by PDPGuy(op): 1:52pm On Jul 13, 2025
End of 1st quarter
Canada 23-5 Nigeria
Re: Nigeria Basketball Thread! by Danielnino00(m): 2:03pm On Jul 13, 2025
Canada are raving mad....
Beating our girls by over 40 points
Re: Nigeria Basketball Thread! by PDPGuy(op): 2:10pm On Jul 13, 2025
Halftime
Canada 62-16 Nigeria
Re: Nigeria Basketball Thread! by PDPGuy(op): 2:12pm On Jul 13, 2025
Truth be told, their ball handling and offensive spacing has been poor
Re: Nigeria Basketball Thread! by Danielnino00(m): 3:12pm On Jul 13, 2025
That was beyond embarrassing.. damn!
Re: Nigeria Basketball Thread! by PDPGuy(op): 3:52pm On Jul 13, 2025
The girls surely can’t take this form into round of 16..
Re: Nigeria Basketball Thread! by PDPGuy(op): 5:48am On Jul 15, 2025
Nigeria v Portugal dunks off at 10:45am today, with the winner most likely ending up as group runners-up…
Re: Nigeria Basketball Thread! by PDPGuy(op): 4:41pm On Jul 15, 2025
The Junior D’Tigress will square up against Hungary in the round of 16, after finishing in third place in group B.. But we have to spare a thought for the Chinese team that will face the USA in the same round, after losing all 3 group games 😂😂

Meanwhile, the team are only the 2nd Nigerian basketball team to advance to the knockout stage of a FIBA competition 😎

....So sad for Hungary..lol...to be honest, i have followed the games, i watched all their 3 games, i must say, as much as i wanted more, i will be easy on the girls for the singular reason called the NIGERIAN FACTOR. It obvious that the team is not cohesive enough, which could be due to late preparation, no one knows how long they were in camp, also were the girl well taking care off, all of these factor contribute alot especially at that age and when you are trying to blend some new players with the old ones. Just saw some tweets this morning saying that the Nigerian Sport Commission is yet to release funds for the dtigress, Money that should have been released since May, so travel arrangements and all can be made...#thenigerian factor......Every other team except Nigeria are already in camp, from Senegal,Uganda..e.t.c..So if you see a Nigeria athlete ,just hail them, e no easy....The almighty Super falcons still have their training kits enroute Morocco, when competition is about to finish, Remember what they did to Favour Ofili too....#its well.

I tell you, it’s an extreme sport representing Nigeria in any competition. I can only think of 2-3 instances where our athletes were successful based on proper planning and preparations

I feel bad for the new invitees, because you do not have soo much time to prove yourself, if by Saturday or Sunday you still are not convincing, you might be on the flight back, as the camp is basically one week now as against 3/4 weeks that it should be, or that other countries are doing..

If D’Tigress win this year’s Afrobasket, they will automatically qualify for next year’s World Cup. However, the team would still be required to participate in one of the 4 World Cup qualification tournaments, scheduled for March next year…

Suprised are the inclusion of Sarah Ogoke as she was neither in camp nor was she in the provisional list. If I'm being frank I don't like this. Even for sentimental reasons, her inclusion makes no sense.
