Is Education Still The Key To Success? by Truvelisback(op): 7:34pm On Jul 19, 2025
Good day, fellas. I have been pondering on this for sometime now. Is Education truly the key to success in Nigeria? Most of us grew up hoping that after graduating from tertiary instutions, everything would fall in place but after schooling, reverse was the case.

I asked because it is really disheartening. After spending lots of money in tertiary schools, one still ended up struggling financially and to get a well paying job. This sometimes makes one look like an illiterate to some folks.

Education is one of the keys to success, though there are other keys also.

Ok sir, education is not your BSc or PhD. Education is not your certificate.

With your certificate there are fields you cannot fit in. You will need the illiterate technician to educate you. The person may just have his first school leaving certificate and he will be miles ahead of you that has your BSc in Mechanical engineering.

Do I still need to define education?
Re: Is Education Still The Key To Success? by Divaan: 8:37pm On Jul 19, 2025
Education should not be a criterion for success. Many in this part of the world are wrongly trained to believe education should/ would yield success. So they think acquiring degrees/ certificates would give them success. It does pave the way for success for some people but not all.

Education is a necessity. It cures the mind of ignorance, illiteracy and brings enlightenment. But you shouldn't stop there, you must give yourself 'real education' that involves mindset refinement based on truths, quality information, etc that would shape your life, right thinking, interaction, relationship and personality.

Success is also relative. Your personal wins are your successes but we(especially in Africa)are shaped to believe that money, houses, statuses, cars etc equates success. That is why I said education is not enough, mindset refinement is required.

Note:
Money, houses, statuses, cars, etc are measurable indicators of personal wins( success). Your success should be your own personal wins, no matter how ' little' it may seem to you.

In Nigeria, once your education doesn't make you financially bouyant or put food on your table, it seems useless to them. As a matter of fact, most of us believed that finishing tertiary institutions would make us turn rich over night, build our own houses and have our own cars. That was the drive we had that prompted us to tertiary schools.

Education and schooling are different.
Education is the process of acquiring knowledge. So it's not tied to attending a formal institution. Our view about education in nigeria is myopic and limited. Just acquire knowledge and make impact with the knowledge. You do not have to go to school to acquire knowledge.
Thomas edison had little ir no formal education but invented over 1000 things. He was self education. The problem with ys in nigeria is that we do not truly understand what education us. Mist nigerians are schooled but nit educated. That is tge irony. Mark twain said "Don't let schooling interfere with your education "

Having education doesn't totally qualifies you to be literate. I've seen some who acquired education but still illiterate.

I've also seen some who haven't gone through school but mentally literate.
So education isn't a yardstick for sucess, but the mind.

There's a difference between Education and academic. Education is acquired everywhere (informal and formal). While academics is formal education. For crying out loud, dangote is educated business wise, every successful person is educated in their field. It doesn't have to be in the classroom( formal). Without education of any form, you can't be successful. So education is the key to success koz it gives you vital information needed to succeed in your field while academics doesn't always hold the key.

Education is still the key to success, if you were exposed to wealthy uneducated men or school dropouts, you will see most elderly people regretted not going to school, cos school is like an insurance for the future. With the way Tinubu is positioning Nigeria again the future will be great for all graduates. Naira will become equal to dollar one day no matter how long it takes. Just continue surviving and persevering, there is hope for every graduate.

Until education brings food to your table, it would never be regarded. Most successful men and women i have either met or heard of in Nigeria are into skills or business. Only a very few people are sucessful with their certificates.

Yes, education is still the key to success but it's your willpower and personal initiative that can make you profoundly successful. Without formal education, you may not have been able to articulate this your points here, talked to the kind of people you do now, have the kind of contacts and leadership and management skills you have today.

Yes education is still the key to success but you have to look beyond success from the prism of financial success alone. Think of Relationship, Confidence, Courage, Self awareness, etcetera!!! These are part of the things you acquire when you are educated.

Yes, but this government makes it seem like education is a charade.

Our former president wasn't educated. This current president has fishy educational qualifications. Yet both occupied the highest offices in the country.

MC Oluomo who is not educated is highly successful and influential by illegal means.

Students are powerless; agberos are powerful.

It's a twisted world in Naija mhen.
