Is It Too Late To Start A Tech Career In My 30s With Flutter? by Vickiechuks(op): 8:43pm On Jun 26, 2025
I’m in my 30s and seriously considering transitioning into tech as a software developer using Flutter. I’ve developed a strong passion for it, and I’m committed to learning and growing in this field.

However, I’ve had some people tell me it might be too late to break into tech now , that the industry is saturated and opportunities are harder to come by. That has left me feeling a bit confused and discouraged.

I truly want to make this work , both because I love building things and because I want to earn a good living doing what I enjoy.
Is it realistic to start a Flutter developer career at this stage of life? Any advice, encouragement, or tips would mean a lot.

Thanks in advance!

No age is late to learn, but bear in mind that it takes years to reach intermediate level. Also have a solution in mind to build while learning. The solution should be something that can be monetized.

It's not too late you just need to find a very good teacher so as to speed up your learning process. You need someone that will put you through the basics and also be able to answer your questions when you are stuck.

Believe me there is no age constraint to tech. you can learn anything as far you have passion for it.
you need a tech school where you can be taught the bases. You can check my signature

You aren’t a serious person. You have a thread from November asking what to choose between react native and flutter. Keep on asking. From November to now is almost 8 months.

The way to look at it, even if you don't start a career and waste all your time, you'll still be aging... Like even if I'm 60 years old and develop and interest for anything I'll do that thing.

They're lots of ways to make money as a software developer irrespective of age... Unless you're just a dumb person heading to bed a foool at 40

I started at 42

No knowledge of anything

Now I have built a to-do list, invoice generator, inventory system, basic CRM

All with html, css, JavaScript, bootstrap and Nodejs.

I start coding last year May 2024

It's been a lot of long nights of learning and relearning, I work and am a slow learner, so I just learn at my pace.

What helped me most

Learning to explain my code with lots of detailed comments

Keeping a journal for my code, so I can read it when I have free time

Using YouTube to learn a new project finish it then feed my notes and code into AI for a better understanding and quality question and answer session with test cases and challenges

Learn to pace yourself

Learn to debug your code

Console log is you friend when you don't know whats going on

Once you start and get to the level where once you see any code you can understand what it's doing, once you are at that level, you mind will begin to want to do try new things.

And know that once you can understand what you

Don’t listen to naysayers saying that the market is saturated…..you still have a lot of time to achieve what you want…learn what ever it is be it flutter, devops, cloud….and don’t be intimidated by people’s experience and whatever…AI is now a leveler and is here to assist you and not replace you…work closely with it…be dedicated and the sky will be your starting point.

It’s not too late but you have competition around, so if you’re made for it you will simply be able to ace the competitors and get a job.

Teach is both for old and young, you need to be competent

Yes, but learn both React Native and Flutter.

You have enough time on your hands.

I am a true believer that age is just a number, and in my opinion, 30 is still an early age to begin a career. Many developers start even later. Different studies say the average person changes careers 5–7 times in their lifetime. So, you must pursue your passion. The use of Flutter for cross-platform app development is growing among freelance clients and startups.

However, it is important to build real-life projects, not only to keep learning through tutorials. Google’s official Flutter channel is already available on YouTube. So, you can learn several things from there. Some other helpful YouTube channels are The Net Ninja and Hey Flutter. I would also advise you to read some informative blog posts like this https://blog.back4app.com/how-to-build-a-flutter-backend/ to enhance your knowledge about Flutter.

Withal, you not only learn Flutter but must implement it. Later, you can share your small work on GitHub and open-source it with the community.
