Popular Ibadan Hotel, De Castle Inn, Finally Demolished by Kontrol97(op): 4:54am On Jul 20, 2025
The iconic De Castle Inn, a popular hotel located along Queen Elizabeth II Road, Total Garden-Gate axis of Ibadan, has finally been pulled down. Demolition work commenced earlier today, with heavy machinery seen bringing down the structure which had once served as a bustling hospitality hub in the heart of the Oyo State capital.
As at the time of filing this report, the exact reason behind the demolition remains unclear. However, seems that the state government may be acting in line with earlier warnings issued regarding abandoned and underutilized buildings across the state.

Misconceived and poorly constructed idea of a physical structure! Good riddance to bad rubbish!
Re: Popular Ibadan Hotel, De Castle Inn, Finally Demolished by DMCY: 6:31am On Jul 20, 2025
It has been there for years without usage. Passed around a couple of times and I could feel it from outside how totally lifeless it was inside.

Waoh! Finally got the architectural experiment to rest permanently.

This hotel was popular for the way it's owner restlessly tinkered with the structure in an exciting manner.

The final structure he created before being abandoned was that of a Fish Head with opened mouth.

I reminisce my stay in the hotel which had about 50 rooms, if not more.

Change is the only constant thing in life.

That is good development. You cannot keep holding, while there is scarcity of space and accommodation in the land. Same should be replicated in Abuja.
Although, instead of pulling down in Abuja, Government should seize and allocate those empty estates and buildings to the public.

Empty plots in choice areas of every city like PH, Enugu, Abuja, Lagos etc, should be re allocated to serious developers who would build to let or private abode, and bridge the gap in the real estate industry which would force the prices of rent down.

NEVER OPERATED POPULAR HOTEL would have been more appropriate. I'm over 50. That structure had been there for more than 3 decades if not more huh

You think so?

You needed to have seen it in its glory when it was still functional.

That 'rubish', as you called it was one of the biggest hotels at a time in ibadan along with D'rovans and Co.

History is there to learn if you are willing.

You people don't understand Economics and it shows.
1) Why are you so particular about land in "choice areas"? Why not land in the outskirts?
2) Would the government give it out for free? Or would the developers give it out for free?
If you expect the developers to pay for it, why can't they negotiate with the owners of the land directly?
And lastly, do you know the uproar it would cause if the government starts seizing land? What criteria would be chosen to decide who gets the land? How do you convince people that criteria is just and transparent?

They don't have problem having Queen Elizabeth road in their region, but will get agitated when they hear about emeka street in their region.and you wonder why it took less than 1000 British to conquer and colonise the African region.

This looks like an abandoned structure yet the headline described it as a popular hotel so as to sensationalize the story undecided
Re: Popular Ibadan Hotel, De Castle Inn, Finally Demolished by lailo: 8:29am On Jul 20, 2025
It may not be the government doing this demolition. It may be the new owner who wants to put a new structure there. Blogger and their propensity for sensational news and clicks. Lazy readers everywhere grin
