There's another gigantic abandoned building along Bodija. I think IBEDC now uses the building. I have always wondered why such a massive building would be left abandoned at somewhere around Bodija

That building was in a strategic location, that can be more beneficial than been redundant...

It's been long overdue...

You think so?

You needed to have seen it in its glory when it was still functional.

That 'rubish', as you called it was one of the biggest hotels at a time in ibadan along with D'rovans and Co.

History is there to learn if you are willing.
I think the last time I passed through ‘D rovans’, I was surprised to see it being renamed as ‘Wallan hotel’ guess it has been sold

NEVER OPERATED POPULAR HOTEL would have been more appropriate. I'm over 50. That structure had been there for more than 3 decades if not more huh
Is it not owned by someone? Doesn't the owner have kids? I really don't know the story behind the hotel but I'm wondering what right the government have in demolishing someone else's property

Close your mouth tongue
Kobicove:
This looks like an abandoned structure yet the headline described it as a popular hotel so as to sensationalize the story undecided

Misconceived and poorly constructed idea of a physical structure! Good riddance to bad rubbish!
All these gen z will be saying what they don't know. I don't think you were born when that hotel was fully functional.

That is good development. You cannot keep holding, while there is scarcity of space and accommodation in the land. Same should be replicated in Abuja.
Although, instead of pulling down in Abuja, Government should seize and allocate those empty estates and buildings to the public.

Empty plots in choice areas of every city like PH, Enugu, Abuja, Lagos etc, should be re allocated to serious developers who would build to let or private abode, and bridge the gap in the real estate industry which would force the prices of rent down.
This is one of the most meaningless comments I will read this year.

Haa the rate of empty estates in Abuja is mad .

Demolishing this one in Ibadan is actually long overdue. That structure has been abandoned for decade , now serving as hideout for criminals. People living in that area will receive fresh air.

Waoh! Finally got the architectural experiment to rest permanently.

This hotel was popular for the way it's owner restlessly tinkered with the structure in an exciting manner.

The final structure he created before being abandoned was that of a Fish Head with opened mouth.

I reminisce my stay in the hotel which had about 50 rooms, if not more.

Change is the only constant thing in life.
How many years ago did you stay at the hotel?

They don't have problem having Queen Elizabeth road in their region, but will get agitated when they hear about emeka street in their region.and you wonder why it took less than 1000 British to conquer and colonise the African region.
Don’t even try to make this about Emeka’s tribe — that’s just attention-seeking! If Emeka is not wanted in a particular place, he should relocate to where he is welcome. I believe it's far more important for Emeka to deal with the issues — the demons — driving him away from his own land, rather than lamenting over street naming or the inability to establish some yeye kingdom in a foreign land!

Perhaps the locals saw nothing wrong with naming a street after Queen Elizabeth — after all, she didn’t refer to their land as “no man’s land”!

Unfortunately, it has been demolished as well. There were litigations here and there between the family.
Wouldn't know if the government moved in for possession too or something.
