The National Assembly should pass a bill banning renaming of academic institutions.

I support this 100%! I don't know the reason for their constant renaming of institutions after themselves and other late politicians. I am beginning to think these politicians believe they are more important than the entire country, cos this is pure narcissism... It's annoying at this point.

Besides does someone like Buhari even deserve such gestures? The man failed to protect the lives of Nigerians because of tribalism... a former president who allowed Fulani herdsmen crisis to continue all over the country and his solution was giving them free land all over Nigeria!

The largest national open university in Asia is the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), located in New Delhi, India. It is also considered the largest open university in the world. IGNOU has a massive enrollment of over 4 million students.

Anyone that has a stigma against NOUN needs to educate him or herself.

The idea is good but NOUN name would be distorted.

Buhari University can be shortened to Unibubu or UniMubu or unibuhari.

How do you shorten Shagari university?

Shagari itself means drink gari. Unishagari.

Hehehehehe. Gari will kill all the students.

It is better you turn it to Gari & Kulikuli university of Nigeria, than an incomplete, confusing name.

It is better to name National Assembly after Shagari.

Is being the first president an achievement?

I don’t recommend changing the name but your point is weak. Every institution has large number of graduates dwarfing the number from NOUN.

I can say NOUN has multiple campuses and won’t be nice changing the name of such a multi state, multi campus institution

This is not true!
No university in Nigeria comes close to NOUN in terms of the number of graduates.
NOUN is the largest university in West Africa by enrollment and the second largest in all of Africa, surpassed only by UNISA.
On average, NOUN matriculates over 600,000 students per academic year, while other universities average around 35,000.

National University of Nigeria must not be renamed. That name gives it more credibility.

You can rename other institutions after Shagari but never NOUN.

If at all NOUN must be renamed, it should be Olusegun Obasanjo Open University of Nigeria

The naming of universities after politicians or past rulers should stop.
In fact, such renaming should be reversed especially the recent ones.
As much as possible, a federal university should reflect neutrality.

Lol, we UItes reject it in jesus name.
Anyway obj owns his university and guess what, he did not name it after himself rather he called it Bells university of technology, Abeokuta.
I guess it is only those with low self esteem that will go around naming things they met, that has been there tens of years before they got into position after themselves.
