ADC Speaks On How Its Presidential Candidate Would Emerge by Pakute(op): 8:10am On Jul 21, 2025
The African Democratic Congress has emphasised that every step involved in forming and endorsing the party as a coalition platform to oppose President Bola Tinubu in 2027 was firmly backed by legal principles.

Speaking with journalists in Abuja on Sunday, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, also stressed that the ADC’s foundation was built on a strong legal framework.

PUNCH Online reports that since ADC was launched as the coalition party on July 1, concerns have been raised by many Nigerians over potential internal conflicts, especially in managing the presidential ambitions of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, and former APC presidential aspirant Rotimi Amaechi, among others.

Answering questions on how the party intends to choose its presidential candidate, the ADC spokesperson stated that the party will not endorse any anointed aspirant.

He emphasised that ADC has no hidden agenda or preferred candidate, assuring all that the party will ensure a level playing field and a transparent process for the selection of its flagbearer.

“I have not heard Peter Obi or Atiku Abubakar say if it’s not them, then it’s nothing. It’s their supporters or people who purport to speak for them that are saying this.

“Whether it’s Peter Obi or Alhaji Atiku Abubakar or any other aspirants on the platform of the African Democratic Congress, understand that this is democracy, and we are not going to anoint any aspirant or candidate.

“Like our chairman has emphasised, we don’t have a predetermined agenda. We don’t have any favourite candidates. We are going to provide a level playing ground and a transparent process for the emergence of our presidential candidate.

“I’m not aware, therefore, that any of these aspirants have directly said that it’s either them or they are no longer part of the coalition.

“It’s ok for supporters to continue to say what they want to say, but they don’t necessarily represent the sentiments of people that they claim to support. And that’s why we say that for us in ADC, we are going to maintain strict internal democracy.

“And if anybody has any preferred aspirants or candidates, what I would advise them is to get a membership card of the ADC so that they will be in a position to vote for these aspirants when the time comes to elect a candidate for the party”, he stated.[/b]

When asked about potential legal challenges facing the party since the formation of the coalition, Abdullahi assured all that the ADC had carefully taken legal precautions to prevent the ruling APC from exploiting any loopholes to destabilise the party.

Abdullahi said, “We’re not aware of any encumbrance. There’s no encumbrance as far as I know,” but, however, agreed that some individuals have gone to court.

“Yes, you are right, some individuals have said they are going to court or have gone to court. But like I repeatedly said, it’s possible that they don’t have the correct information. For us in the ADC, we are confident that we are on solid legal grounds in everything that we have done.

“This didn’t just happen overnight; it took a very long time because we knew the kind of challenges that we are faced with. And we know that once we leave any legal loophole, the ruling party will not hesitate to take advantage of it to destabilise our party the way they’ve done to other opposition parties,” he said.

Reality keeps staring Obidients in the face day after day. You may stay on your keyboard and be forming Voltron, Putin and Kim Jong Un combined, intimidating and issuing threats but as soon as you logged off from your internet, you will come and face the reality waiting for you. The message of the coalition is clear, you're in the minority, you may have your say but we will have our way.

I wonder why you quickly jump on an ADC/obedient thread when you know you are for APC. Why don't you face your party and leave obedients and ADC with their keyboards and you and your party hold your keyboards too.

No consensus candidate. All candidates must go through the party primary

The problem here is Obi himself, Obidients are only noisemakers and keyboard warriors. Obi's dishonesty is the cause of the confusion among the coalition. We all know that there were series of meetings among these people before finally agreeing to adopt ADC. You can't join a coalition without an agreement. Obi must have agreed with the terms of the coalition before announcing he has joined them but his dishonesty, lack of integrity is pulling him back from being transparent to his supporters and inform them about what he had agreed with the coalition. Yesterday he would say he has joined the coalition, Today he would say he remains in LP, Tomorrow he would say with or without the coalition, he will contest for the Presidency... doing blablablu and jamming the heads of his supporters together in confusion. The question they are not asking him is , what was your agreement with the coalition?.
Re: ADC Speaks On How Its Presidential Candidate Would Emerge by jmoore(m): 8:34am On Jul 21, 2025
No one accepts to join coalition without accepting terms and conditions.

And it will be the highest form of self-deception to disregard the opinion of the supporters of those involved in the coalition.

If there were no terms and conditions before forming the coalition, then ADC is a big joke.

Obi will only join the coalition if the party zones the ticket to south. That's obvious.

Obi is begging for one term 😂😂 Obidients are begging for Atiku to step down, yet they're the biggest noisemakers 😂. Why is your Candidate afraid of primaries, thought he singlehandedly won the election 😂😂
Re: ADC Speaks On How Its Presidential Candidate Would Emerge by Fryx:
All I know is that Atiku is a gambler. And gamblers don't quit till they lose all their money.

In all honesty, Tinubu have it easy, and will always have it easy because the majority of his contenders are selfish. Being selfless comes with some certain level of privilege and power - almost godlike.

The coalition is essentially a vehicle to advance Atiku’s presidential ambition, with Obi merely playing the role of a pawn on the political chessboard. The so-called Obidients are politically naive, drowning in social media hype and echo chambers. Sadly, by the time they realise the reality of their manipulation, it may already be too late.

In truth, both Atiku and Obi find themselves in a political cul-de-sac. Whether they proceed together or pursue separate paths, their prospects remain bleak—they appear destined for repeated political failure.

I've noticed you lot have a problem with irony. The other day I saw one of you advising someone that he should respect his opinion. As in, the very things you lot do, when it's returned back to you,you start appealing for reason. Like I always say, you guys are beyond hilarious. I'm happy coming online to read you lot's comments, as it's A-grade comedy everytime.

That simply means, Peter Obi will never be President of Nigeria.

Which of them have the finance mucle to take on Atiku? None. So invariably, Atiku will naturally emerge as the presidential candidate. He will settle others conveniently.
