Nigeria's problem is not lack of money for infrastructure it's lack of system planning.

Basic systems towns in America with 50,000 people do, no Nigerian city can boast of. Scheduled bus systems for example. I visited a town of less than 30,000 people in Texas. They used Ford 30 seater buses to provide public transport with bus stops across a town spanning 20 miles. Tell me when you look at Onitsha or Awka how hard is it to design routes, stops and schedules?

Public scheduled transport makes life in cities easier, safer, less chaotic and cheaper. The current reality of tens of thousands of tricycles clogging junctions and streets is typical primitive lack of planning. A city dweller spends hundreds of naira shuttling from point a to point b over very short distances. But the dullards in ministry of transport can't do public transport nor are they intelligent enough to go get help from advanced countries.

Or water and waste systems. Forget city-wide. Just take the COOU Teaching Hospital in Awka. They built an array of buildings but ask yourself why didn't they build an integrated water and sewage system in the hospital complex? Basic stuff. Again lack of planning and lack of sense to source experts.

Storm drains is not new technology and it doesn't cost billions. Obi built Storm drains in Awka that diverted raging water flows away from Unizik Temp Site and the formerly swampy akwatta junction on the expressway. He built 10 foot open drains and pits and an underground pipe opposite what is now Solution Fun City under the expressway channeling the flood to a canal on the other side. That was a limited solution to save the expressway from constant maintenance. But no integrated solution. Eke Awka side still floods, the Obunagu part of the town still floods. It says that better planning is needed not reactive work of a particular governor.

We need to do a lot better and if we can't do it then get help and learn from experts. As a start ANSG need to restore planning in its institutions and go to EU,China and ask them to donate experts in water, sewage, transport, traffic control to help PLAN not money. Then design these systems for major cities over 50,000 in population and feasible 30 year workplans.
I wonder what happened with the UN habitat plan for Awka that Obi launched........is Soludo not a former World Bank consultant........these issues are not alien to him........thr least he can do is to update the plan and use it as a guide!

Maybe he is actually using it...who knows? Soludo has left his mark on Awka in a positive way but Ndi Anambra are so enterprising ....that all he needs to do is to plan and facilitate..........our people will do the rest! May God grant Soludo speed and wisdon!

Impressive pictures of Awka! Clearly Soludo has put a lot of work in Awka....and its showing! Our business men should please come on board with more leisure and social facilities....the kind of crowd I saw at the opening of the park suggests that awka residents have been starved of such facilities for a long time!

Should be careful spending too much time and money on fun.
Those things(time and money) should be spent more on productive things or for talent developments, more like having fun learning centers for mastering ones talent.

More fun centers would be great if they're made mostly for people to come learn and compete in things they're talented in or passionate about... Things that can be used for the good of society.
They could become places to groom and nurture talented swimmers, pilots, coders, chess players, football players, transporters, eco-friendly estate developers...basically anything that can be properly learned via physical and virtual gaming. I think people would pay alot to gain access to such facilities since they can be used to develop oneself and earn a living. Alot of people would also pay fees just to be spectators

Anyway, hope they don't get too attached to this things to the extent of spending too much time and money on them. Better to spend more time and money on good things that can be used to benefit society, more than you benefit yourself.

Good point but we do not have any at all..........how many parks or game centers do we have in Awka anyway! In The US they are everywhere ...in fact they go for a baker's dozen for a penny! Even the libraries have all that you described.......aside books they have coding and 3d printing classes for teenagers..................etc! The more the merrier afterall we have schools everywhere too!

Re: Update on developments in Anambra state-photos by Bish42:
It's becoming obvious that the few recent happenings in Anambra are somewhat connected to this thread.
The last one I heard happened close to ekwulobia flyover. What a coincidence.

Let me let you know how it's very connected to what is being discussed here especially recently. Remember, it's not about doing or saying something wrong, but what happens afterwards when corrected or told that what you are doing/saying is not OK and should be stopped. Some refused to stop despite knowing it's bad, this is what is contributing to the few recent issues in Anambra. It is generating the curses both physically and spiritually.
GOD was touched to rescue certain parts of igboland when the enemy wanted to devour them. Things became calmed after people listened and became obedient. But it seems those close to the messanger treat him with contempt because he has become familiar to them and is considered like any other noise maker they read on this forum. Well, let me remind everyone that the current peace you enjoy in South East is based on a covenant, to do what is right, with GOD mercies and graces upon the inhabitants. But GOD doesn't tolerate those who take his mercy and grace for granted, or those who sin willfully.

I hope you don't let this escalate further. By then it will be too late. The security agencies cannot help if the right thing is not done.

The governor shouldn't relent on completing the flyover as soon as possible. Could be what those pretending to care but hate to see such progress in igboland hope to achieve

Very impressive..........Ekwuluobia is going to become a good transport hub after all the dual carriageways are completed......including the recently awarded Ekwuluobia to Nnobi dual carriageway!

They should get Market square, everyday supermarket or genesis to take up leasing there................there will be enough patronage from oko poly students, fun seekers looking for wives and girlfriends, even residents of surrounding towns will come around too! We all cannot go to nnewi and onitsha all the time!

Talking of plans , what happened to Soludo's plan to build industrial and business parks in Anambra....We heard of the automobile industrial park in Ogboji? Is that the best qe can do really?

I am a firm believer that Anambra 's strongest " unique selling point" is in logistics ( transport and warehousing) of commercial, pharma, medical, electrical, building materials and beverages etc.............Soludo and his crew should find out how logistics hubs are developed in other climes......and how to attract more businesses to such central hubs......Anambra has always been a distribution hub for parts of Southsouth, north central and of course southeastern states!
A well conceived and constructed hub will attract even more businesses and IGR for the state!

You are right but let's me add that there is no business like manufacturing. The richest man in Nigeria Dangote manufactures cement, fertilizer, fuels. The richest men based in Anambra are manufacturing cars, engine oils not retailing.

Anambra needs industrial layouts and needs to partner with the Chinese who know how to organize and operate it. The education level of the state is reasonably ok. The industrial layouts they should focus on are shoes, garments, textiles, building materials and food processing with a plan for 500 factories employing at least 100,000 people.

They need to get gas pipelines into the state and supply captive power plants in Onitsha, Nnewi and Awka. That is what Mark Okoye and SEDC should focus on first before railway.
