The current outrage.

I was about to complain, then I remembered that there were two. Many people are complaining right now, but I'm willing to bet that they don't know that there are two.

Two what?

The Ogun State College of Education was established in 1978. Its name was changed to Tai Solarin College of Education (TASCE) in 1994 after the death of the great educationist.


Governor Dapo Abiodun renamed it again and it is now known as the Sikiru Adetona College of Science and Technology, in honour of the late Awujale of Ijebu.

That's why some people are up in arms. Dr Tai Solarin was an atheist and his religion was education. His dream was for every Nigerian child to be able to get top quality education. Critics say that Dr Solarin's name is being erased and that he did more for education in Nigeria than Oba Adetona.

But wait a minute, I said that I was about to complain, but I didn't anymore. Why?

That's because the Ogun State Government established the Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) in 2005. It is a separate institution and it still bears that name. The university was taken over by the Federal Government early this year.

Basically there were 2 higher educational institutions in Ogun State that were named after Tai Solarin and one of them has been named after Oba Sikiru Adetona.

Are they the same?

1) This is Tai Solarin University of Education.

Note: As the governor said, the college was renamed while the Awujale was still alive.

One should award NCE while the latter BEd!

I think we should up the requirements for NCE and teachers education generally in Nigeria!

Well, that's understood. The government can named any institution after whole they liked.

Nigerian leaders, I don't know if they don't think or something. Why always renaming universities polytechnics and college of educations that are certificate issuing institutions. This is not too good. These places are historical sites and institutions where these names are part of their identity.

They cause confusion and erase the prestige of these schools. See Harvard (which was named since 1639 i.e almost 400 years ago), imagine one person just wake up and change its name to anything he likes. Or University of Oxford (which is about 929 years old). The names are their identity and prestige, and thousands of people pass through these schools each year. The government should stop causing a disturbance in the naming of institutions that issues certificate to thousands of people.

Imagine one person's certificate will carry Tai Solarin, another person's own will carry Sikiru all from same school. Na so Tinubu wake up change the prestigious name of UNIMAID to Buhari university. Unimaid that was one of the most prestigious schools in the North, now them don kpai that school through the name change because if you tell someone say you are from Muhammadu Buhari university, they will be confused and ask you, what school is that?

It still doesn't detract from the fact that another government institution or building could have been used to immortalize the Awujale. Was an error made in naming it after Tai Solarin in the first place?

Just imagine, a government coming and renaming some of the institutions already named after other persons, there'll be uproar now or won't there be

Even if this were true, does it mean those who named the college or university after him didn't know there was one to his name already?


These government officials are useless people. They build nothing and have named existing infrastructures after their friends and benefactors.

Now, there is nothing to name anymore than remaining old institutions. The way these useless government officials are targeting educational institutions is even more alarming. Institutions are brands in themselves. How will you just wake up and rename a tertiary institution without consulting?

I used to think it was the college of education that was upgraded to university of education during Jonathan regime.

Some idiots up are sounding like bots as usual. The idea of renaming institutions of learning after politician should be discouraged in all totality. This can cause some sort of constraints for alumni outside the country or elsewhere and this stupid practice is mainly carried out here, mit and other big institutions would have been changed hundreds of time if it was here .
If you must name or honor anyone just build a new school or whatever n not renaming existing ones.

There is nothing to laugh about. Those who named them after him are not stupid. If he has built anything meaningful in his almost 8 years in Ijebu, he would not be remaining existing structure after other people.

The idea of even naming education institutions after people who contributed nothing to education or the institution is VERY SENSELESS and political.

Many of us know that there's a higher institution that bears the name Tai Solarin, but we didn't know that there were two institutions which are the College of Education and the University of Education in Ogun state.

Isn't it funny for 2 higher institutions to bear Tai Solarin's name in the same state? Who wouldn't get confused by this? You could only avoid getting confused if you knew about it beforehand

Bot even don delete the difference between TASUED and Tai Solarin College Of Education

I don’t see any sense in renaming an institution that have already have her own identity, if you want to honor someone why not establish a new one
