What is simple yes or No?

If there are Parks in Lagos in 1965, then I am sure their would be those that do some Luggage Loading, calling for Passengers and Route/Destination.

These are what is known as "Agbero" if you understand Yoruba, this shouldn't be an issue Sir.
did you read the post I responded to?

Are you saying that agberos operated in Lagos in 1965?

simple yes or no

I would never understand how a grown man will wake up in the morning happy knowing that he has no job, skill or future. Just thuggery. How do they sleep at night knowing that their lives can be cut short at anytime or that they can cut short someone's life at anytime

Are there Motor Parks in Lagos in 1965?

If yes, then there are Agberos in Lagos. Maybe not as widespread and brazen as you have them now.

Agbero simply means the One who looks for Passengers.

When I was still in town, three incidents made me almost give up on Lagos and agberos.

1
One time, I was going somewhere in the morning. Say 8am. I had a traveling bag (note that I wasn't traveling).

I was at Ojota bridge area when suddenly, 3 young guys accosted me and started hailing me, telling me to give them something for the weekend. I told them in English that I didn't have shishi to give. You wouldn't believe that these fewls threatened to seize my phone if I didn't give them money.
I changed it to Yoruba and cussed them. They scuttled away. They thought I was a JJC.

2
Another bitter experience was when BAT visited Lagos and caused heavy traffic. My guy who worked was going home but because of terrible traffic, everybody had to trek at a point. Agberos wanted to snatch his bag and in the process, they stabbed his chest. He bled out like a chicken on the side of the road, with virtually nobody coming to help. Best graduating student of the faculty fa. His daughter was just a few months old.

If Lagos doesn't rid itself of agberos, the state would implode in 20 years time.
touts/agbero are everywhere, even in anambra state they're there in large numbers

Of course I did.

It was about Thuggery being in Lagos in 1965?

Yes there were Thugs and Thuggery in Lagos in 1965 just as there were Parks and Agbero in Lagos in 1965.

Maybe not as much but sure we do have them.

If the City wants to crack down and stamp out Agberos it can. It just doesn't want to. What has happened to wrong way driving?....that most were saying the drivers are very stubborn and nothing can be done about it? Why was a confrontation allowed to grow and get out of hand? Why does the Police have to bring the heads together to get to a settlement?....why not make arrests?

I don't know how intense their activities are now but agbero became legalized in 1999 at the beginning of Tinubu's first term as a Lagos governor.

My point is that it has become a part and parcel of the socio economy of Lagos and unless a military leader comes and stamp it out...nothing will happen.

However the Agbero Transport Worker setting have a rigid chain of command and are usually disciplined except when they go to war with each other.

Those guys that killed your friends are likely street initiated members of secret cults who bully and steal for a living.

The whole stretch of Badagry to Orile is a nightmare to bus drivers. At each bus stop, agberos must collect money forcefully from bus drivers. They seem to be in the world of their own with absolutely no form of control from Government. The menace makes transport cost very costly for commuters.
You're honestly not far from the truth, their menace is too much

My good man, when I'm in the country, I touch base with Lagos very very often.
Agberos have become more powerful than you think.
They are practically everywhere and they weld so much power and authority (legal and illegal) it's scary to think.

Young boys high on loud and other illicit substances are turned into henchmen and made to do politicians' dirty work.

It's bad out there, bro. Very bad.

Lagos needs to start a rehabilitation scheme to stamp out Agberoism and rehabilitate the current agberos
If not, in the next 20 years, agberoism will be a white collar job.

I agree with you on the nature of the past Thugs to the present bunch.

But those ones are deadlier than today's breed but less Richer. But they have always been with us. ..

More brazen and more flamboyant.

With due respect, let's not destroy someone's legacy.
Let's keep promoting and supporting it.
