Hope Uzodimma @Hope_Uzodimma1 In strengthening the unity in our diversity, our constitution must reflect our shared values and aspirations, not create loopholes for division. I made this clear while speaking at the South East, Center B, Public Hearing (Imo & Abia States) of the Review of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999, as amended, held at the Eze Imo Palace Auditorium, Owerri.https://x.com/Hope_Uzodimma1/status/1946678872906539067?t=FVg0di-FTWCHpQlK4Z4GqQ&s=19

"I also advocated for a reinstatement of a vital democratic tradition, one practiced in our early Republics, whereby any Nigerian born in a State or who has lived there for over ten years, with good conduct, should be granted indigene status and its attendant benefits." I disagree with this. You can only be a resident of where you've lived and accorded benefits like residents. But you can't call your indigene. How can you be indigenous to a place you moved to 10 years ago? With the concept, we gonna see more of Fulani herdsmen killings because they will flood the entire country and install emirs in every town as per indigenes ![]() For basic general welfare purposes, we can replace state of origin with state of residence (You should be able to provide at least 5 years tax clearance certificate).. Enjoy the benefit of your economic contributions to your resident state but you can't call yourself an indigene. The real solution to our problem is regional system of government. Let every region develop at its own pace. This idea of waiting for Abuja to share money every month is our majority problem. |

These recommendations will not solve Nigeria’s problems,we need outright separation. You say you don’t want a certain people in your lands and that they are the real leeches…..can we allow them go their separate ways in peace so they can “leech” themselves by themselves! |

Things I agree with…. Zoning of the presidency by geopolitical zones, state police and at least one more state for the Southeast. |

Lol jus come out straight u want to take Land grabbing to full scale... If we are to follow your recommendations if you start claiming indegene after 10yrs what happens if it doesn't favor you anymore... Or you start seeing herdsmen trying to contest for the King jus because he has Spent 10yrs... |

There should be a referendum so we can have a people based constitution. It's high time they started treating y'all like human beings not statistics |

I also advocated for a reinstatement of a vital democratic tradition, one practiced in our early Republics, whereby any Nigerian born in a State or who has lived there for over ten years, with good conduct, should be granted indigene status and its attendant benefits.Imagine this nonsense. We don’t have this in the constitution but their people are already dragging lands all over the country with indigenous people. What will now happen when it becomes constitutionally backed to do so? Una think say una get sense abi |

In addition to that What if each Nigerian zone had its own Federal Capital of Commerce — cities with constitutional autonomy, economic sovereignty, and federal-level status like Abuja? Could this bold move help restructure the lopsided federation, unlock true fiscal federalism, and neutralize minority fears of political and economic domination? Would a Lagos for SW, Aba for SE, Kano for NW, Makurdi for NC, Port Harcourt for SS, and Maiduguri for NE as federally-backed commercial powerhouses redefine Nigeria’s broken union? Or will it trigger new power struggles? So that no zone is cheated |

Just imagine this man ... Indigine issue that is settled you and your paymasters have failed. Every one will remain original of his origin of parents tribe. Be yourself, be your original tribe but have Right to leave and own any property anywhere , any location within Nigeria, leave within your community law in line with Nigerian constitution any side of the country . 2years time your carnage will be over ... Nature and karma will start restoring |

abc115:Otherwise known as dual indigeneship. I don't quite agree with this because it's gonna give rise to infiltration of all sorts. |

Just say no to the indigenous bill. Simple as ABC. Spend that time in pushing bills that will develop your 5 plots instead of attempting to steal other people's land.

chopnaira:Fulanis will import their brothers from Mali, Guinea, Burkina Faso, Niger Republic, Chad, e.t.c This Nzogbu style of acting now and thinking later will always backfire. Did he not think of what will happen to minority states indigenes in Nigeria, especially the South South and the Middle belt? |

LCling:As a Nigerian, the constitution allows them to move around and live anywhere, but they are not satisfied. This is just pure greed and covetousness. |

kettykin:But weren't you the person that was preaching that Lagos is dying, that it would be like Warri and that nobody wants to stay in Lagos? How would the struggle for control of such a place birth a civil war? |
| Re: Governor Hope Uzodimma's Recommendations To The Constitution Review Committee by Goodvibes007: 3:46pm On Jul 22, 2025 |
kettykin:Who is struggling with Lagos.. ![]() Lagos belongs to the Indigenes of Lagos. Why does anyone want to control the land of another if not for greed? Before the formation of Nigeria, Lagos had been progressing since the 1800s due to European trade with the present day SW of Nigeria, Benin, Delta- Itsekiri, and Mahin (Ilaje). |
