You can still meet prof(HOD) and still explain the issue to him though most times he's always very highly emotional and easily bursts out of anger but when he's cool and level headed he can give you a listening ear and your issues will be attended to especially when you are very honest with him.

I still blame you heavily for rushing to go home immediately you would have waited or stayed back so that if any issues comes up you'd easily go to the department to sort it out, by now it would have become a forgotten issue.

McCoy662 I actually have the same problem as you when I graduated, they misspelled my name too and it's the same Uniben.
Then I just graduated fresh,so the solution was that my course adviser resent my results with my correct name with the new batch of graduates to the senate.

The process took months but it was rectify, even when I went to Student affairs, they have the "statement of result" of the one they misspell my name, I had to tell the man to go and check again before they saw the current one.
Your misspelled name is already on file, the solution is for the Senate to print another result

My question to you is did you see the mistake before doing Department clearance because I corrected my mistake before any clearance, it could have been easier by then.

Anyway just find out the lecturer in charge of final year results, the one taking it to Senate and talk to him, it will get better results than depending on the HOD.

People are just wicked. I went to UNIBEN too and had a problem with getting my student ID for the duration of my course. They keep posting me from my department to Admin to CRU or what do we call it then. I got frustrated and decided to face my study. After graduating, I got stuck with clearance.

Three years after graduating, my dad asked me to see one of his friends in another faculty. Fortunately for me, when I got to his office, he had been promoted to deputy VC admin. He was glad to see the son of his long-time friend.

He gave me a letter directed to the head of CRU. When I got there, the man ordered one of the staff to bring his laptop. My profile was accessed in my presence and all my level 2 to 4 courses were registered for me with the payment vouchers I presented. I was asked to proceed to my department for clearance.

My HOD showed so much respect. Even my project supervisor was running up and down. Unfortunately, I lost the man's tact. I have to go to my hometown if I need to see him again. This naija na who you know. I swore not to go to school in Naija again.

What stopped them from giving me my password to access the school portal to register for my courses for 6 years?

I think you should contact Mrs usibaifo and explain everything to her though she was my course advisor then but I don't know if she's still the one she may help you to quicken it.

Computer science is the worst department in uniben. I saw hell in that department but I later won and stopped seeing the structure.

Nigeria and its leaders (not just the government... I mean civil servants, heads of departments, etc) ARE DREAM KILLERS!

I know what I went through to do my clearance. Imagine a simple letter taking 5 years to sort out. Lazy, archaic, wicked, and evil people. If na HOD pikin, or big man pikin, story for don change. This is just sad!

I know this is just a side of the story. But as someone that has been frustrated before because of clearance, it's juszt crazy.

Why can't we love and respect each other...be at our best when dealing with others irrespective of one's position or influence?

I remember when I was an undergrad student. My Physics 102 result was MISSING. As in, how? Course wey I write pass well? Missing, how? I got to know this during my clearance.

Imagine clearance officer telling me to WAVE IT...that it won't affect my grade as I was already comfortably on a 2-1. Course I suffer write pass... no empathy...so that you'll quickly be done and go home.

I refused, of course. Went to the physics HOD,, an elderly man, a father figure...but in reality, an emotionless man. He easily discarded me, not even giving me listening ears. Went with one of my lecturers again, he threw us out...

And me no fit bribe anybody. Not possible.

It was God that gave his secretary wisdom, we maneuvred, she helped me retrieve the result from the department's archive, I made a copy and went on to submit at my department.

The big question is, why must university clearance be done physically? Why can't it be done online? Why can't I clear out online and go my way? Why must I move from one tabletl to the other...begging and being abused.. One so-called bursary officer would go to work very late and close before 3pm. If you sack him now, him go say na devil.

I once wrote that calling for national prayers will not change anything. It's better we do our best individually in whatever capacity we find ourselves... and pray for the country individually too. The national prayer people are calling for, no be all these wicked people go gather dey pray? Child of God on Sunday, wicked entity on Monday.

Funny bunch of people.

Hopefully your story checks out. If so, raise enough dust online. If you have any evidence... especially the letters you wrote over these years, put it out too. Wish you find justice.

We all must stop looking at Aso Rock as the only problem of our country. True, Aso Rock and its occupants are a major problem, but our individual wahalas dey contribute significantly to the state of the nation too.

So, for this country to get better, each and every one of us must seriously decide to do better. Go to work early, stop all corrupt practices, don't litter, stop exam malpractices, stop signing 7:30am when you go to work by 10am. If employed, be efficient. Function in the exact capacity you were employed. Stop playing God because you no reach. Be kind to everyone you cross path with. Just be HUMAN! This is not even about being religious. Just be human!

See how these things are very common? Not the big, big CRIMES you think have put us where we are. These little things, if achieved, will go a long way!
Aptly said. Tis phenomenon is rampant in our universities. I had same issues with clearance during my time and had to miss batch A service due to missing results. The young man in exams and records working on the results wanted bribe but couldn't come out straight. Not knowing my parents are staff of the University, when the back and fro became too much, i reported to my mum who went to see the registrar and the guy was orderd to make a list of the missing results and submit to him. The list was endless, but thank God i know all the lecturers and are in very good terms with them all. They wasted no time in sending in the results, even a lecturer vacationing abroad then has to get in touch with his secretary to do so. My result was computed immediately and i was very lucky to meet the woman incharge of dispatching lists to NYSC at the point of traveling to Abuja with the list that evening. As God will have it she was my teacher back in JSS and when i told her that, she orderd the secretary to retype the list with my name in it.

If as a staff kid i can face such in a reputable university, then i can imagine what non staff kids pass through.

Niraland family Please I really need your help on this matter. So sorry my writeup may be long.

I graduated from University of Benin in December 2019. Due to lack of funds, I couldn't go for my clearance until about a year plus later.

The time I went, everything was going on well until I got to the student affairs department where it was discovered that my name was wrongly spelt.

The mistake was from my department and j was referred back to my department to get it corrected before I could go on with the clearance.

I went back to my department, met my HOD and explained everything to her. She asked me to write a letter and give to her secretary. I did and asked the secretary how long it could take and he said maybe 2 months.

Two months later, I went back to the school to check and the error was not corrected. I went back to my department and the HOD again said I should write a letter. I did and months again, nothing changed.

The cycle continued until I ran out of funds to keep going. Each trip cost me over 50k then. I sent my friends who were still in the school then to help me remind her. They did, even submitted another letters, still nothing changed.

Last year around July, I heard that the department had got a new HOD, I gathered some money to go and see the man and see if he can help me. When I got to his office, I explained everything to him and he said that I'm not serious. That he has been HOD for some months and no such complain has ever come to his table. I then told him that I have sent letters countless times to the former HOD, though I haven't sent any letter nor came to the department since he assumed office due to financial constraints.

I told him that I asked my friend who reside In Benin to help me get his number so I could reach out to him. Then he flared up, insulting me and my generation. That I have no professor in my linage and why should I be asking for his number. He said we are not mates and all. After the whole insults. He still asked me to write a letter and submit with his secretary, with a copy of my "school screening certificate" and "eligibility slip" to verify my real name. I did, and it's almost a year now. Yesterday I called the clearance officer at the student affairs department and she said "Iyede they never do am"
And don't know what else to do, it's over 5 years now since I graduated. And the fault is not from me. All my documents has my correct name, even the screening certificate and eligibility school issued by the school all has my correct name. My online student's kofa page, has my correct name. So the error is from them.

And in a country like this, after 5 years, no any work experience, no certificate to even apply for any job.
I wish to take them on legally but can I get justice without connection?
NL big fam please if there's any lawyer here that can help or you have a connection to who can, please do.

I’m sorry to hear that nigeria happened to in such a cruel way.

If you are in the state capital, try to locate the office of the public complaint commission and file your complaint with them. Your case would be attended to in days and if you are not in the state capital, you can use the online service of the organization or any area office close to you.

Make sure you accompany your complaint with relevant document and resource.

If I get to work tomorrow, I’d get the phone number you can call and as well other resource you may need.

I pray you get this resolved as soon as possible.

Good luck

First of all I would say u are actually nonchalant,u waited for close to 6 years to ask for help, but I will give u the best advice.

You must approach this like a do or die affair, uniben clearance can get u frustrated when u don't know anyone or not willing to tip people. As it appears u don't have money for tip.

If u don't know any senior lecture or a prof.,meet the secretary to the HOD make him/her ur friend, disturb that person with clarity.Only the admin/sec of ur faculty can help u,it doesn't concern the HOD at all, they only need his signature.follow up the letter from office to office[admin-courseadviser-HOD-admin].Dedicate at least 2 weeks for this.

Then go to ICT unit at back of Akin deko auditorium...lay ur complaint to someone who works there and looks approachable,ur ID is already outdated...u need a Student ID to get u upstairs. If u dont have get ur Eligibility slip as a pass.I believe also have ur clearance certificate.

Always get updates about Senate meetings, because only when Senate seats before there can be correction of name

Oga, u have to learn how to live in this corrupt nation, if u don't I am sorry for you. All you needed to do was bribe the secretary and watch her run around for you. I remembered when I was doing my clearance, I entered my faculty for dean to clear me. The dean was lecturing a class, I give the secretary 3k, omo the sec carry my clearance paper with stamp and pen run enter the class the dean was lecturing, n got my papers signed there, something plenty ppl dey wait for him in the office. This is a corrupt nation learn how to live in it.

Read your students handbook or rule book, whatever it's called there.

Write to school Senate and copy deputy registrar legal affairs.

Remind them that you have no other option thean approaching a court to claim damages.

Attach all previous letters on subject matter.
Give them 2 Senate sittings and send a reminder.

If nothing changes, go to COURT.

5 years out of your life is not good. Go claim damages.

You have said it all. We Nigerians are very wicked and are a reflection of the government
Re: Help . Uniben Has Refused To Clear Me Since I Graduated In 2019. by Edoblakky(m): 1:21am On Jul 23, 2025
I understand what you are going through. I graduated from Uniben in the early 2000. I lost my dad and did a change of name while still in school which was published in 3 dailies - guardian, vanguard and observer. By the time I graduated, the then vc Anao made a proclamation that only ladies who got married were permitted to change their surname. I missed nysc 3 times and began reversing my name to the original name. My hod even saw me as a fraud and decided not to help in any way. I suffered severely, going to the school everyday until someone in the clearing office gave me an idea to simply go for another fresh clearance with my former surname. I did and that was how I was clear to go for nysc when many of my classmates were already working.
Bottom line is you can't solve the problem from outside. Plan to stay in Benin for at least 2 weeks and do a serious follow up everyday otherwise nobody will help you.
My hod who doubted me was surprised and ashamed when both of us ended up in an oil and gas firm working as colleagues.
Please, go and spend time to resolve this important issue that you have left to linger for too long.

The university admits you and not the department. The department simply work with your details which they received from the registry.

Option 1: Go to the Registrar with the correct documentations.
Option 2: If the error is from the department, they simply correct your name in the last approved results.
Option 3: Meet the Dean of your faculty.

Nobody wants to take responsibility. Op, no gree for them.

McCoy662:

Help me repost.
Admins pls help move to fp
which department
