So this is a message we just got. I believe this is could easily be a scam but better safe than sorry. They called my sister's name the way it was registered on Truecaller. Here's the message below. Has anyone seen a message like this before?


*They reached us with this number on Whatsapp *+234 701 892 3612**

> The reason why am talking to you now is because of the way you be to me. Na person wey dey close to you, na him wan kill you. All wetin him talk, I record everything on my phone here including the video play and the voice note, him no know say I dey record am as him dey talk, and I know the reason why I recorded everything.
> The money wey him pay us no mean anything to me or shey na because of 500k wey person pay me na him, I go take go take someone life and family life? NO.
> I know the reason why I told my boy’s to calm down dat I will call you because I know you very well, and that’s the reason why I’m asking you that who did you have issues with? I don’t want you to hide anything from me

She called the number and the guy asked, "have you seen my message and she asked what it was about . The guy change am and dropped the phone. Her husband now recorded a vn thanking them for helping with the information, then asked for 2 things
1) the video (not audio of the clip) of the person planning the dastardly act while still thanking them for being patriotic.
2) He then mentioned that in case this was one big joke or format, then they didn't know them well enough because if they knew the support around his wife, that type of joke would never come up as a threat to his wife and family meant he needed to rise up to the occasion. He said if this is a format, then it has to stop immediately. (He then took the screenshot of the message before sending his vn through my sister's phone.

As they received the message, they quickly deleted the first threat message and sent a VN back that was supposed to be for people who threatened them back. Because he did not engage them in that expected angry level, they had nothing else to continue with but still send their counter threat. A recorded message that had words repeated back to back. The next thing they did was to now write a message saying they were blocking her. Which they did. After that, she blocked the number and by the next morning they had also deleted the threat VN they dropped.

]Abeg make we track this number know who dey behind all this.

You could simply have played along, get the matter reported to the police and get them arrested!!!!

they are 419, some will even send video of someone being shot, or claim to be calling from prison.

New format. People will fall for it.

Na scammers... mine was a call, but I just ignored them when I searched online and found people talking about the same format.

They were offered 500k to kïll the person but if you engage with them they will ask you to pay 200k so that they will back out. It's a pure scam.

It's a scam. The goal is to stir up panic in you then ask you to pay any amount lower than that 500k so that they can die the matter.

The mistake you made was replying them. Next time just block the number or better still you can report the matter to the police.

Visit police station, and ask for special force department??

It is a Scam. The funny thing is despite all the chaos caused with NIN linkage to Mobile Lines, you still have some lowlifes threatening you will Numbers that can be easily verified and traced.

And the funny thing is there are many numbers out there churning out scam messages on a daily basis.

Scam Alert

Don't call them or talk to them. Simply block them.

If children will fake their own kidnap to collect money from their parent and a wife faked the kidnap of her child to collect money from the husband, the this scam can't be a surprise to you

Report to the authorities immediately. That is the right thing to do...

This is seriously disturbing and sadly becoming a trend. Too many people are using fear tactics to manipulate or extort unsuspecting victims. Thank God your sister and her husband handled it with wisdom and didn’t panic or fall for it.

To everyone here: Please never call back random numbers that threaten you. Always report, record, and block. Most of these guys are scammers fishing for reactions. If you entertain them, you give them power.

We really need the authorities and telecoms to do more about tracking these numbers. In a country where people are already stressed, this kind of trauma is too much.
