Deacons and deaconesses can be chosen from the ranks of Ifa worshippers as well.

Obaship is a TRADITIONAL institution and MUST remain so!!!

After you've attained same through traditional means and go through all the rites?
Re: Yoruba Obaship Stools Do Not Belong To Traditional Worshippers - Oluwo by Nobody:
What happens when Governor’s starts electing Óbá’s.

The Yoruba tradition is about to be exterminated.

The pope was buried in the tradition of Roman Catholics. They observed every rite that dates back centuries. The British royal family does same.

African wannabe’s will tell you their own tradition is outdated.

I don't understand why this is hard to understand!!!
Yoruba thrones are not reserved for traditional worshippers!!! They are leadership positions, not religious positions!
Re: Yoruba Obaship Stools Do Not Belong To Traditional Worshippers - Oluwo by Dotherightthing: 5:11pm On Jul 23, 2025
Wrong!

The stools predate the western religions in Yorubaland and have always been based on our traditional religion.

I am a born again christian.

Jesus said 'Give to caesar what belongs to caesar'

If you cannot be a traditionalist, stay away from the Yoruba thrones. angry

Coming an Oba that does that was installed by mistake, how can a traditional ruler go against the same tradition that installed him?

So does it belong to the Pope in Rome or the Imam of the Masjid al Haram in Mecca?

All these guys that want to eat their cakes and have it.

They call Obas alase ikeji orisha.

I guess that name was coined from Islam or Christianity.

Good to know this piece of information, it will rest all the rift about the stook.

This is what all Christians and Muslims should stand up and fight for.Why would the traditionalists say they own a king that is king over all the citizens in his domain?
No,the king doesn't belong to the traditionalists but everyone and he should be related to as he deems fit.You cannot force yourselves on him and step on his human rights.
Re: Yoruba Obaship Stools Do Not Belong To Traditional Worshippers - Oluwo by Bar1941(m):
If we say Oba is an oba over every dwellers within his kingdom, then why should we restrict whoever becomes an Oba to just traditional worshipping?

Some things need to be addressed about kingship in Yorubaland if truly we want the position to be productive and effective. Many individuals that can make meaningful impacts in the society as an Oba turned down the opportunity because of its excessive association with traditional worshipping!

An Oba is not an Olu-awo, neither is he an Aborè and whatever order he makes bound on pastors, imams, atheists and traditional worshippers so the position should not be totally considered as one for the traditional worshiping alone.

Using human being as a sacrifice after the death of a king also was/is a tradition until people started thinking otherwise. It’s high time Obaship position is reviewed as well because unlike in those days when everyone shares thesame traditional belief, the beliefs among people are different now and that need to be addressed.

Common sense.

The Oba of Lagos is the Oba of all Lagosians and not only Lagos traditional worshippers.

The emir of ilorin is for all people of Ilorin and not traditional worshippers of Ilorin.

It seems you can't differentiate between culture and modernization. If you understand culture, you can't talk modernization rather review of certain things

A Muslim that wants leadership position can become an Imam and a Christian Pope if desperately desires to lead but for the traditional stool, leave that for the traditionalist ( An Oba in Yorubaland is called Alase Igbakeji Orisa)

I am a Christian and would rather leave that part for the traditionalist or I join politics and become Governor or President to serve my people.

It is the way a people live not paganism. We can't be stagnant in the foolish tradition of near cannibalism and hideous satanic activities you people hide under and call culture.

He made sense if we want to be objective.
Wisdom is needed and not religion.
Even culture evolves. The traditionalists use modern technologies and modern foods and drinks. Culture simply means way of life which encompasses dressing, eating, making, burial, worship etc. How many of those do the traditionalists still do ad it was done say just 200 years ago except the rituals and sacrifice.

This is what happens when a nation leaves its tradition to accept a foreign religion. Yorubas were traditionalists before they accepted Islam or was it forced on them. Same with the nations in the south eastern and the south south.

You see a Christian leading a throne that ought to belong to traditionalists. Africans wake up and forever stay dumb. Islam and Christianity are foreign religion and its adherents should leave our ancient and sacred thrones. They can become imams, pastors, etc. Leave the thrones to the traditionalists.
