Disenfranchisement Of Kogi Central: A Constitutional Crisis In Nigeria’s Senate by malali(op): 11:37pm On Jul 23, 2025
The ongoing suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan represents a direct assault on democracy and rule of law. Elected by the people of Kogi Central, she has been unjustly removed from office under the leadership of Senate President Godswill Akpabio, allegedly for a seating dispute, but widely viewed as retaliation for her public misconduct allegations against him.

A Federal High Court has since ordered her reinstatement, declaring the suspension illegal. Yet, the Senate refuses to comply, defying judicial authority and disenfranchising over one million Nigerians. This is not just about one senator, it’s about whether Nigerian democracy can survive unchecked power in the legislature.

Worse, her committee chair was handed to a senator from Akpabio’s home state, hinting at ethnic favoritism and authoritarian consolidation. The intimidation of female senators further reveals a culture of silencing dissent.

This is a constitutional crisis. The Senate must obey court orders, restore Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, and ensure no lawmaker is above democratic accountability.

Democracy dies not in chaos, but in silence. Nigeria must not stay silent.

She is a senator of the federal republic of Nigeria....equal to every other senator in the red Chamber.
There is a court order from a court nullifying her suspension.
She has pledged to the rules when she swore an oath to be senator...you cannot have her swearing every market day.
If you have punished her already....she can decide whether to apologize or not.
If you punish me for a crime....I will not apologize (but thats me)

Akpabio will not remain senate president forever and Nigerians will never forget this act of impunity against a fellow senator and the judicial arm of governement.

Is she not trying to be selective in the judgement giving? I’m no fan of Akpabio or whatever…

She was told to apologize on 2 national paper, I wish she knew how much Nigerians were waiting to read that paper then back her up despite not showing us evidence of … did she?

Did she pay the 5m awarded against her?
She want us to uphold a court judgement she herself didn’t obey, I don’t think it’s done that way.

Mr Crayon, why did the senatorial district also elect a drama queen?

My question is why are you people supporting Natasha are selecting only 2 out of 12 judgements from the court.

I can't wait to see whenever she resume back to the chambers whether she will sit on the old seat or the allocated one by the Senate President.

Apologize after you have removed her from the committee she chairs....you have stripped her of everything you gave her.
All she has left is her senatorial seat given to her by the people of Kogi Central.
Thats the only thing they cannot take from her !!!!
If Akpabio can take away her senatorial seat. He will go it out of vengeance !!
If they had left her as the chair of the committee, which is at Akpabio discretion, i would have advised her to apologize.
But If Akpabio continues to punish her everyday he wakes up......If na me i no go apologize !!!
If i apologize, make i die !!!

Na senate president you be....you no be God !!!
They should allow the senator back on her elected seat......There are a lot of senators in the USA senate that don't agree with each other or even see face to face.
This paternalistic approach in the Nigerian senate has to stop. Akapbio is in contempt of court if he doesn't allow her to take her duly elected seat. He is also in violation of the Constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria. By denying the people of Kogi central representation in the legislative arm of government, due to a seemingly personal feud with Senator Natasha Akpoti.

What they don't know is that the ebirra have decided to use the anger of the perceived injustice against Natasha as fuel to work against Tinubu in 2027. By all means, Natasha isn't an insignificant force if she could swim against the tide to secure a senate seat.

The funny thing is despite her suspension, she's still delivering the goods to her people regardless.

Recent events have proved that Tinubu/APC and the Akpabio-led Senate have become a threat to democracy
