University of Ife doings.

This is nice. Considering all dress code mentioned are for informal environment.

Institution of higher learning is a formal environment.

Its just like saying Babariga and Agbada is not allowed in Night Clubs and you say its wrong or absurd.
what do you mean by the university is a formal environment....? How ....where..when...?

Go to Harvard, caltech, Yale and Princeton and see what they are doing, that's the problem we focus on irrelevant things.
You can't even hold a debate with most of your professors. They will use i m older to put you down.
i swear seeing comments on nairaland is so funny. Backward thinking literally

Only the wayward ones would call it glorified secondary school like they always do whenever they wanna reset their malfunctioning brains.

The way some youths, most especially girls dress these days I wonder if they were born and raised in hell before they landed on earth. You can tell the design and colour of their panties (the one wey decide to wear ) by merely looking at them.......Some don't even wear panties at all, they'll wear leggings and still hang T-shirt to display càmel toes and bûmbûm.

We are slowly returning to normalcy. The young people of this generation will be noted in history for various misdeeds. Congratulations to the OAU executives for their efforts. Other institutions should take note and follow suit even Churches to should control their members.

What is this stupidty you guys are all promoting, u all shd just go to north korea and take up citizenship o...Russia is also looking for foot soldiers and they dont discriminate age.

Very welcomed development. Young children these days are something else.
this is not development in any way, they left their core job to start doing fashion police.... good research they cannot do....yet they are not brave enough to confront their political captors... but they want to flex muscles on innocent young people simply because they want to show relevance....All of them shd open churches and mosques... in their own compounds and dictate dresses for their members.

I visited the OAU recently and was so disappointed with the spate of infrastructural decay in place. I've been wondering why the school's name had suddenly vanished from the ratings list, not knowing its no more what it used to be. So sad. Our leaders won't go unpunished by God for destroying our education system that made them who they are today.
very stupid arrangements I tell you. What is their problem with people's dresses...if not that they are all jobless.... how is that part of teaching, research and community service....are we now running Hisbah in Nigerian Universities?

This is a school a citadel of learning . God bless the VC of this great school .
God punish everyone involved in the decision... because this is not the job they were hired to do.... they are supposed to teach their courses and carry out research. Not to become fashion police

Seems a religious extremist has been made the VC, cos it makes no sense at all. Some students already have tattoos as adults, so they should go and scrape it off or what? I hope the circular is fake...

When the university that's supposed to be a higher institution of learning and emancipation is now the opposite, you know something is wrong somewhere.

The motto of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) is "For Learning and Culture". The motto emphasizes the university's commitment to both academic pursuits and the celebration of African culture, if the students are not willing to adhere to the values then they can drop out

Easyincome24:
The management of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Osun State, has released dressing codes for all its students and punishment for violators.

The release listed various degrees of unwelcoming dressings noticed among the students especially the Gen Z with varying degrees of punishment including but not limited to expulsion

How will the dress code change the university’s failure to generate ideas and products to improve our country since independence 65 years ago huh

The systemic failure of parenting and schooling left to pamper kids has produced this frustration and embarrassment from a respected citadel of learning. The sad thing is that they don't and we don't know it yet.

Re: OAU Dress Code & Punishment For Violators by Fiscus105(m):
shortgun:
This dress code circular from Obafemi Awolowo University is not only draconian in content but embarrassingly sloppy in execution. For an academic institution that prides itself on intellectual excellence, this document press release is riddled with misspelled words, grammatical blunders and inconsistencies(how). If you’re going to police students’ appearance appearances with such intensity the bare minimum is to do it with proper correct usage of English english.

Instead of equipping students to face the real world, you’re turning the university into a 1970s military barracks. If OAU put puts half (of)this energy into fixing hostels, updating curricula, or paying lecturers maybe we wouldn’t be here talking about dress codes written like a failed WAEC essay.

Universities are supposed to prepare students for a diverse and globalized world(and) not to shame and punish them into submission. OAU as an institution is clearly stuck in the past
When you are leaving in a glasshouse, please try not to be throwing stones to other houses. I believe you understand my proverb.

Meanwhile, I can see a comment of a guy who is only lamenting with no single solid reason to justify his submission, the last time I checked, a university is a community that established, not only to reshape future generation's destinies, but also, to make positive impacts in the society it found itself. It's not a safe haven for rapists, thieves, fraudsters and prostitutes.

Re: OAU Dress Code & Punishment For Violators by chatinent: 3:05am On Jul 25, 2025
Those people with already drawn tattoos will definitely begin to panic.

The university should also ensure that lecturers cease to extort and exploit students, esp, the females.
Re: OAU Dress Code & Punishment For Violators by Blitzking: 3:48am On Jul 25, 2025
It's a university not a secondary school...some lecturers are trying to protect their own.students wey Don take over tiktok and the likes as school fees don high make dem no hustle.

Your dude was a performing artist not a student in a responsible community. In performing arts, anything goes. Every community has its core values and ethics. In the military, you can't wear dreadlocks, anywhere in the world. So, as a performing artist, anything goes.

Education itself is an organized body of standardized knowledge: where real knowing is sifted from myths and fables. It is the factory where knowledge is birthed, investigated, sifted, standardized, passed on to benefit the society; and where it is fedback for further investigations.
So Sir, any students or parents who feel universities cannot do beyond the curricula for learning should stay away from tertiary institutions. Education is a choice. Anyway, in today's Nigeria, education is a scam.
He was a regular dude who could play bass and we met in church.

Easy to throw around the word value when we are one of the most corrupt people on earth.

These same lectures have been found guilty breaking the rules of law on several occasions.

What exactly makes most of the list an issue? How would wearing crumpled clothes earn you a semester rustication?
Re: OAU Dress Code & Punishment For Violators by elitper: 4:27am On Jul 25, 2025
Most of the thoroughbred academics have left the universities. Many of those left now are nothing but mere wardens, becoming Professors by writing pedestrian and inconsequential papers. The results of underfunding the universities are upon us. The fools we raised have made it to the top.

Their core job is not just teaching, but building character also.

I live in UNILAG, where there is practically no dress code, and you should see the aberration I see on a daily basis by certain students.

I think it is for the students' good, even though it may seem harsh. Just as a good father will discipline his child so he does not go wayward, I think the school is doing this out of love for the students.
