Since the news was shared that South Africa hopes to bring the F1 back to its shores in 2027, Cape Town and Johannesburg have been fighting about who would have the privilege of hosting the race.

It's been over three decades since the F1 engines have roared on African tarmac but the cities are getting their fists out and staking their claim on the potential race.

The competition is between two tracks – a street circuit in Cape Town and the historic Kyalami race track outside of Johannesburg (where the race was last held in 1993).

Committee member Mlimandlela Ndamase told AFP they will choose the winning bid in the third quarter of 2025.

"The Grand Prix is definitely coming in 2027, no doubt about that. Whether it is Cape Town or Joburg, we do not care as long as the Grand Prix is coming to South Africa”, Sports Minister Gayton McKenzie.

While a street circuit could be very exciting the challenging Kyalami circuit offers 30km of zigzags and excitement.

Rwanda and Nigeria (Abuja) have also thrown their hats into the ring.

Na white people develop south Africa. That's why they are the first African country to host world cup.

They already have the facilities in place.

They should win the bid.

At the very least when we have good enough hospitals that the oyibo's visiting can depend on to treat their illnesses or the race drivers can depend on to save their lives in the unfortunate event of an accident during the tournament undecided

That will probably be by 2050 if we start getting things in place from 2027 wink
Re: A Look At South Africa's F1 Grand Prix Bid Venues - PICTURES by Dogalmighty17: 8:15am On Jul 25, 2025
Abuja should forget about hosting the grand Prix. Let's be honest with ourselves. Where are the roads for that? You just don't wake up and adapt the infrastructure of a city for the grand Prix. It doesn't work that way. Purpose built infrastructure is the way to go and Abuja has none.

When we talk, they say we're demarketing Nigeria. The only way you can solve a problem is to tell yourself the truth of your present situation and it's not by saying "we have fine roads in Abuja" but do you have F1 approved circuits ? Nigeria can get a hundred sef if we're serious but our politicians who'll handle contracts and procurement are notoriously corrupt, slow, customs are the same, budgeting will take years and even decades because some people want to milk billions of naira through variation. And it's not just the circuits, we have a serious security situation that's akin to the proverbial keg of gun powder in Abuja and environs which you all know but refuse to acknowledge and violent one chance robbers are the least of it. Kudos to Wike and the FG if they manage to pull off the construction and security aspects of this thing but knowing Nigeria, I won't hold my breath after all, ordinary public primary schools have been crying out since early this year but nobody answered them instead it was ICC of 39b we focused on

Blacks (Nigerians) are too docile and can take nonsense from their leaders.

Oyibo's on the other hand will never approach a place that can't guarantee their safety.

Two people . . . Two different ideologies. Go figure 😏

You see why some of us argue that as bad as colonialism was, given the benefit of hindsight we can now say that the British colonial gov't left Nigeria too early! I would have prefered they stayed till at least the late 80s early 90s!

Sorry, this jealous talk doesn't cut it anymore. Look at the South African football league, for example, look at how organized and rich it is. Who runs it? Who built those stadiums, those facilities? Kaiser Chiefs alone have facilities better than all your teams combined. Who runs and owns Kaizer Chiefs? South Africa was never gonna be the worst place in Africa because South Africans aren't wired like that, even under Apartheid, black areas were still organized, you and us aren't the same. You'll always make white excuses for your shortcomings... The likes of Rwanda and Kenya are moving forward at a rapid pace; you guys are still crying for the white man. Have you seen Addis Ababa of Ethiopia, lately? Looks better than all of your cities, without your beloved white man. Stop this defeatist mentality

It really doesn't take a white person to build you roads or hospitals, you guys and this "white is god" mentality, it's your undoing...Yesterday I saw a Nigerian stadium filled with Nigerians wearing Barcelona shirts, and it just went to show how embedded the white worship is among Nigerians..

As much as I detest the practice of Xenophobia, I can never think it’s worse than tribalism or ethnic bigotry.

In xenophobia, citizens don’t want foreigners in their country.

In tribalism, citizens don’t want their fellow citizens in their collective country.

Tribalism is worse and has spilled far more blood in Nigeria than xenophobia has in South Africa.

I don’t think Nigerians have the moral ground to condemn xenophobia and racism.

That something progressive in South Africa is the work of the Whiteman? That would mean 80% of South African population have no input in the affairs of their country, which is impossible..

You have to reach a certain level of failed-state status to begin kissing white behind for every little thing.
