laptopsforsale:DPM and German Floor are two separate things. DPM is the sheet/membrane which needs to be done before the German Floor. |

diordaves:Are you saying Engr. Dubem who has done certain buildings and not used DPM and even given the reasons for such which is not just based on theory but practical and continuous field experience is building wrongly for his clients !!!!! |

Omayie:You can contain the inevitable rising damp to a decent extent by adopting the method in the attached photos. Sand fill the floor and level off the floor. Line the floor with a DPM up to two courses high on the wall. Then pour your concrete up to a minimum 4 inches thick. By the wall, crack the wall and tuck the end of the DPM into the crack on the wall and then plaster the DPM against the wall. You need to do this over the house. Outside, you need to concrete your compound floor and bevel the floor so that rain water flow away from your foundation. So you can do stamped concrete but do not do interlocking as interlocking perpetrates rising damp.

laptopsforsale:DPM - Damp Proof Membrane is the nylon jare. DPC - Damp Proof Course is German floor. A minimum of 4 inches thick DPC (German floor) without DPM is acceptable and effective if a dry normal land. |

bixton:In a normal dry land, a German floor that is minimum 4 inches thick without DPM is effective and acceptable civil engineering practice. If it is below 4 inches thick without DPM is a cause for concern. |

diordaves:My oga, that nylon is very insignificant in cost compared to the German floor and should be cheaper extra protection. |

I'm still your sure plug for affordable customized, durable coating/ painting needs. I just learnt some painters refer to premium emulsion paint with smooth filler as matte emulsion. External matte should have low level of sheen and should be cleanable without washing off to show it can withstand external weather condition. |

There are several materials that can be used for DPM. Polyethylene (the black nylon) is one, it's in various thickness, it's the most commonly used method. Bitumen-based solution is another method, it can also be adopted. But the major thing is to consult an experienced builder or professional in the field for precise solution. Note to potential home or building owners: While factoring money for other parts of the building, make sure you do not neglect DPC, it is as important as every other component of a building, it is a member of the foundation that must be fully taken into consideration. Most people don't look at the side of DPC at all and this messes up their completed structure. |

diordaves:Does the civil engineering code and practice stipulate that with a minimum of 4" thickness of concrete cast mix stop capillary action on building foundation walls(first three course of substructure blocks)? |

WAYS TO PREVENT DAMPNESS IN A BUILDING. 1. If hollow sandcrete blocks are used for the foundation walls, ensure you fill the holes in the blocks with weak concrete and not earth filling. 2. Introduction of DPC: this helps prevent the direct continuation of the foundation walls, this is the reason whereby another setting out of blocks is done. In DPC (Damp proof course) are DPM (damp proof membrane) and Oversite Concrete (German floor). |

From the onset of this bungalow project, every move was intentional. https://www.nairaland.com/8428713/construction-5-rooms-self-contain Rather than raising 6 block courses for internal walls just to reach plinth level, we introduced stud columns; short, reinforced structural members, strategically positioned from the design stage to carry the strap (plinth) beams. And just look at how the strap beams gently sit on one of the stud columns😇 a clear example of load being transferred exactly where it should be. That’s not luck. That’s planning meeting precision. This smart decision gave us: ✅ Cost savings on blocks, cement, and labor ✅ Efficient structural load distribution ✅ A cleaner and more flexible internal layout ✅ Faster, more organized construction At GV, we don’t build and then hope. We plan, execute, and leave proof behind. #GoldenViewBuilds #StudColumnWisdom #SmartFoundation #BungalowWithSense #CapturedFromOnset #NoWastedBlocks

bixton:All foundations should be designed by the right professional who concern themselves with civil engineering practices and codes. The practice is as from 4 inches thick. Some professional will design 6 inches thick German floor and DPM. |

diordaves:You did not respond to the actual question... Based on your knowledge and experience in building construction, do you think a DPC having no placement of DPM with a concrete cover of minimum 4" thickness will stop capillary action from affecting the walls? |

You’re Not Scared of Polystyrene—You Just Want to Be Sure You’re Not Wasting Your Money. Hi there 👋🏽 Hope you're doing well and making steady progress on your dream home. If you’ve ever thought about installing a Polystyrene ceiling, I know this is probably on your mind… “Will it crack?” “Will it last?” “Is it better than P.O.P?” “Can I trust the installer?” Let me break it down clearly — the same way I do for homeowners like you who send me Whatsapp messages for consultation: ✅ Will it crack? Only if shortcuts are taken. We don’t cut corners — we use the right adhesives, drying time, and finishing techniques that eliminate flaws. Every time. ✅ Can it last 10+ years? Yes. With proper installation and normal upkeep, Polystyrene ceilings can last 15+ years without issues. We’ve seen it. ✅ Is it stronger than P.O.P? Not stronger — just different. POP is dense and ideal for curves. Polystyrene is lightweight, moisture-resistant, faster to install, and more cost-effective — perfect for humid areas and modern homes. ✅ Will it keep my room cooler? It won’t replace your AC, but it’ll reduce heat absorption, making your space feel cooler and more hospitable even in hot afternoons when there's power outage. ✅ Is it safe for kids' rooms? Absolutely. Once screeded; it’s fully sealed and safe — even better insulated than traditional options. ✅ What if it rains during installation? We got that covered. As long as your roof is sealed, rain won’t affect the process. Plus, Polystyrene doesn’t absorb water like P.O.P does. ✅ Why do some ceilings cost more? A simple tray ceiling costs less. Multi-level spotlight design with curves and mouldings? Naturally, that requires more material, skill, and time — and yes, that reflects in the price. So, What’s the Wittyhustle Delivery Process? We keep it transparent and homeowner-friendly: 1. You send us your ceiling size in square meters. (We’ll help you measure it if you’re not sure especially if you're in our vicinity.) 2. We give you an accurate material quote — no guesswork, no waste. 3. You pick your preferred package: 🔹 ₦1,500 per square meter Labour only — you buy the materials; we guide what and how much to get. Then we install appropriately. 🔹 ₦10,500 per square meter Full package — this covers buying materials, wages, and installation given you flawless finish from start to completion. Now, whether you’re building in Nigeria or from abroad… Your home deserves more than “just ceiling.” It deserves a ceiling that adds comfort, class, and functionality to your home. We install that. With care. With expertise. With integrity. 📞 Want clarity and clean work without the guesswork? Let’s talk. Call/WhatsApp: +234 706 146 4663 Email: wittyhustle78@gmail.com 📍 Serving homeowners across Nigeria. Based in Abuja. No pressure. No hype. Just honest, well-done ceiling work. > Enhancing Interior. For educational purposes only . There are solutions to dampness and rising dampness ( both are different) I have explained this some pages back. Also there is diff in these terms DPC DPM German floor ( floor slab , oversite concr) DPC; is a course on its own usually comes in 50-75mm thickness made of fine sand and cement usually placed on block walls on foundation. To prevent rising dampness . Dpm: this is another material made of polyurethane usually placed on block wall on fdn to prevent rising dampness The above 2 serve the same purpose but overtime it was discovered that DPC do failed so it’s now strongly advisable to go for DPM method . German floor on its own is for another purpose entirely… I will discuss this later no time now |

bixton:I responded above. German floor (right mix ratio) of 4 - 6 inches thickness without DPM is effective in a normal dry land. It is not common for this to fail. |
