Its more expensive buying from China and your choices are limited as they don't have auction yards like readily available in US and Canada. I once tried buying a Benz from China, the shipping cost put me off. |

There are actually many Chinese cars in Nigeria (Lagos) to be precise. they're actually cheaper than the rest like eg. A GAC suv which can be categorized under same type with toyota highlander 2013 for instance. GAC sells for about 50m new while highlander toyota 2013 sells for 33m tokunbo. For now, the most affordable cars in the market are from China and as for spare parts, i cant say much about that but it's only a matter of time, if our people become confident in their durability, we could shift attention towards china as they have different varieties. Their technological market is too big. |

China prefere to ship hundreds of thousands of items in a container than ship just one car. That is why they are spearheading the establishment of assembly plant in most developing nations. The only challenge is political interference. Getting the license to operate a vehicle assembly line in partnership with china will see government official hijack the business and demand outrageous percentage making the people involved to inflate the price. Government directly or indirectly is our problem. |

miketayo:If not stolen cars, most of these Toks cars are accident cars. The cost of fixing cars is very high in Canada and the US. Sometimes, it is cheaper for the insurance company to pay out the market value of the car to the owner and recover some of it from the auction than to repair it. |

Dottore:Thank you. What prompted this thread were concerns about durability. You’re absolutely right about the pristine condition of the cars — especially when compared to those from the U.S., which are often accidented or flood-damaged. My only hesitation has been around the durability of the cars. Something in me just felt they might be of lower quality or inferior in some way. Also, what about the issue of language barriers — like manuals and other information written on the cars? |

TechAI:The problem is those cars from the East are largely right-hand drive. Are you ready to do the conversion here in Nigeria? Also, you don't get exactly the same model. Haven't you seen European-made and Eastern-made Camry, Corolla, Accord, Civic, Hiace, etc. Same engine and little difference in interior. Another issue is bad wagon mentality of our people. Even though they have same engine, but they believe they are not strong |

The Chinese make d replica of d body with more flexibility. It still carry same engine and gear. It's not durable on our roads(bad roads) but consumes less fuel ,less tire wear cos it's lighter than d original versions. |

| Re: What's Wrong With Buying Cars From China? by Cmeo(m): 4:50pm On Jul 25, 2025 |
TechAI:Cars from other countries are expensive in China or other places where it's not their production country all over the world. Chinese has their own cars manufacturing companies across their country producing locally and that is why Chinese brands are cheaper in China. The moment Cars made in China left its country to another country, expect it to be that expensive too. It's unwritten law of global trade to protect local production and ensure local patronage. Therefore, Japanese brand will be few in China and any Japanese car you see in China is already expensive and to import them to Nigeria will make them much more expensive. |

eazzzy1:Are you sure you realize we’re specifically talking about China here? Have you actually seen those cars? If you read through this thread carefully, you’ll see where someone clearly mentioned that the cars over there in China are in pristine condition, and I promise you, he wasn’t making that up. He’s absolutely right. The cars are clean, some of them are in almost brand-new condition. |
