This is not surprising.
But the aim is to place Nigeria into that list in the next decade.

Tinubu told us our economy will hit $1trn in 2030. It took Saudi Arabia all its lifetime to reach $1.08trn. But agbados want us to believe it can be achieved in 8 years.

Not surprised about African countries not making the list...

Harvard University in the US alone generates or has more money than some African countries.

It's a pity African countries aren't tapping fully into their potentials.

That aside I am surprised Russia with a the economic and other sanctions was able to make the list and in a strong position too.

As for France the first thing that crossed my mind seeing her name there was how they must have used stolen wealth from African resources to develop their country.

Stolen resources and rare earth minerals from their so called assimilation policies from bukinafaso, Niger etc.

Africa/ns really needs to wake up!
While Africa has been historically exploited, blaming colonialism alone ignores decades of poor governance, corruption, and underutilization of local potential. Harvard's wealth, though large, operates under different rules and isn't directly comparable to a national economy.

Russiaโ€™s economic strength despite sanctions is due to strategic planning, energy exports, and alternative trade routes. Franceโ€™s modern wealth comes more from industrialization and innovation than just past colonial gains.

Ultimately, Africa needs to focus on building strong institutions, investing in education and innovation, and holding leaders accountable to truly unlock its potential.

What is surprising is that the UK is only a few hundred billion from catching up with Japan, and is around $600 billion ahead of France.

I have always wondered how the UK has such high GDP.

These days, you can hardly find anything anywhere that is is 'Made in England' or 'Made in the UK',yet its GDPis nearly 20% more than France. It is quite an achievement.

However, despite a high GDP, it has the most complaining people on planet earth smiley

If you check you tube, you would think it is worse than Somalia the way people there whinge non stop.
The UK's high GDP comes mainly from its service-based economy, not manufacturing. It leads globally in finance, education, media, and legal services, which donโ€™t carry "Made in UK" labels but generate massive income. The country also benefits from global influence and strong intellectual exports.

As for the constant complaining, it's less about suffering and more about a culture of free speech and high expectations โ€” signs of a functioning democracy, not a failing nation.

You seem to have quoted me just for argument sake...

And to make a point by countering what I said mainly. I see you outlined every single point I made and made a counter.

I never blamed France or colonialism for the current situation of Africa being underdeveloped.

I only mentioned France having developed their country by exploitation of Africa's resources. Both in the past through colonialism and presently till date by getting raw resources from Africa at dirt cheap rate.

Havards wealth is theirs under whatever condition it is under. Is it not? They have more money than some African countries is that so or not?

What ever reason Russia has been able to attain that position should it have been with uncarefull or reckless planning?

France may be industrialised I didn't miss that fact and no nation can truly develop without industrialisation but how did they attain industrialisation in the first place?

Your comment sounds funny to me. But I take it you just felt like talking because I didn't see any reason for your quoting me!

The UK is very rich in the service sector. This sector is a major contributor to most GDPs. The UK is packed with highly trained people both nationals and immigrants. This has always been the strength of their economy.

You're right to call it out if it felt like nitpicking. However, quoting isn't always meant to "counter" for sport. It's to clarify the points being addressed โ€” especially in a nuanced debate like Africaโ€™s development. Letโ€™s now respond with balance, not just opposition.

Yes, France โ€” like many colonial powers โ€” built wealth off Africaโ€™s raw materials during colonization and still benefits today through unfair trade structures. But blaming colonialism alone doesnโ€™t explain why Africa still lags behind.

India, Malaysia, and Vietnam were colonized too โ€” today, they have diversified industries and growing economies.

In 1960, Ghana and South Korea had similar GDP per capita. Today, South Koreaโ€™s is over $36,000, Ghanaโ€™s is around $2,200. The difference? Industrial strategy and leadership โ€” not historical injustice alone.

Meanwhile:

Harvardโ€™s endowment is $50B+, bigger than some African countries' GDP โ€” but Africa loses $88B yearly through illicit financial flows.

Russia, despite sanctions, still ranks high economically because it leverages energy exports and geopolitical strategy โ€” not reckless planning.

France is industrialized today not just because of colonial wealth, but because it invested in technology, manufacturing, and education. Africa must do the same.

Until African leaders prioritize industrialization, value addition, and accountable governance, the continent will remain dependent and underpaid โ€” not because of the past, but because of today's choices.

I know all of these na...

You are just expanding my points.

The only place you got wrong is implying I stated Africa lags behind due to colonialism.

I said France is where they are today partly because they exploited and are still exploiting Africa's resources.

That's why I concluded Africa needs to wake up.

So I don't understand why you needed to counter in the first place.

Lol!

Notice, the highest economies are knowledge driven. There's a shift from a manufacturing economy to a knowledge driven economy. These are economies with functional institutions which shaped human interactions. A society that upholds critical thinking against mundane behaviors prospers.
