Coartem is not even the best in the market, merely overpriced. Where it failed to work, P-alaxin rose to the occasion |

FreeStuffsNG:mumu guy. How much was it last year? How much was it last two years? Those are the questions you should be asking yourself. Someone is complaining about inflation you are talking about Rolls Royce. In a few months you will be saying if you can't afford paracetamol you should chew dogoyaro. |

It's understandable to be frustrated with the high cost of healthcare, especially when basic medications like antimalarials are becoming unaffordable. However, blaming it solely on President Tinubu or using it as a reason to write off his entire administration oversimplifies a much deeper problem. 1. Global Inflation and Import Dependence: Nigeria imports over 70% of its pharmaceutical products or active ingredients. With the naira losing value and global inflation pushing up drug prices, it’s expected that imported drugs—like many antimalarials—will become expensive. 2. Decades of Neglect, Not One Administration: The crumbling health infrastructure, lack of local drug manufacturing, and poor investment in pharmaceutical R& didn’t start under Tinubu. These are problems rooted in decisions made 10–20 years ago. No single administration can reverse that overnight.3. Efforts Toward Reform: The Tinubu administration has started pushing policies to stabilize the naira, encourage local production, and reduce dependency on imports. The results may not be immediate, but change at this scale takes time. 4. Healthcare is Not Free Anywhere: Even in wealthier countries, drugs can be expensive without insurance or government subsidies. The key issue in Nigeria is the lack of national health insurance coverage and efficient drug price control—issues that need institutional reform more than political scapegoating. 5. Product Pricing is Largely Market-Driven: Pharmacies and private hospitals often price medications at extreme markups. Regulating drug prices and supporting local manufacturers would be more effective than changing leadership every election cycle. You have every right to demand better. But directing all anger at Tinubu might make us overlook the systemic, decades-old problems that go beyond politics. Let’s hold leaders accountable, but also focus our energy on understanding the full picture and pushing for long-term reform. Emzedz: |

DesChyko:Ignorance is loud it's revolting. Malaria is the biggest regulated health business in Nigeria. The moniker was just telling you the common sense way to avoid the excessive price from importers profiteering from brand name. The only reason malaria drugs are expensive in this age is because of the boundless greed of the Nigerian importer and covert silence from the pharmacy regulators. There's a generic version for almost all common medicines. If you have had to use insurance to get medications in a different country, you would know about this. Regarding the Malaria tablets, I noticed this earlier this year when I was down with Malaria. I was shocked, I immediately asked for the cheapest brand they had with the same active composition as the expensive brand names. I bought it and was healed in less than a week for 1/4 of the price. |

FreeStuffsNG:Thank you for educating him that healthcare is a luxury. I also learnt from you that some medications are for the rich and some for the poor. Attention to everyone, you can see where we have found ourselves as a country. We must all join forces together as citizens to uproot the disaster call Tinubu from our country. If Atiku and Obi fail again, we go uproot them too out. Let them know that power belongs to the people |

Emzedz:The man is right. I work in medicine. Even when the coartem was cheap, i had people get cheaper versions like lokmal and amatem. And anyway if you are on NHIS or PHIS you pay far far less than 10000 for your coartem. If an insurer has stopped covering it, they are not serious |

Get on it if you haven't.Get registered. All insurance companies cover antimalarial meds Yes, apc na useless government, but even when coartem was cheap, it was buying lokmal which was far cheaper. Yes i could afford coartem |
