There are cheaper types of anti-malaria medications, go for them and leave the 10k ones for those that can afford them. Regardless of who is in power, we've had Nigerians that can too broke to afford stuffs and those comfortable enough to. All these Nigerians can't afford this, Nigerians can't afford that talks is getting tiring.
Yes o.

I never will vote for apc, but there are things like nhis where drugs are sold to you cheaper.

Also generics.

Let me break it down for you slowly. Coartem is like what Panadol is to generic paracetamol tablet brands like Emzor Paracetamol tablets, which are cheap and effective. At a time that 10 tablets of panadol was N1,500, ten tablets of Emzor paracetamol was around N150.

It is like what Rolls Royce is to a regular sedan car. They are both car brands but Rolls Royce is pricey.

Since you can't afford Coartem, explain your financial plight to the Pharmacist. The Pharmacist will give you the affordable generic brands of ACTs. These generic brands are effective as well as affordable. Most of them cost between N2k and N3k. You should have gone for that since you can't afford Coartem which is the innovator brand like the Rolls Royce of Arthemether Lumefantrine ACT. Same way you can get some generic antihypertensive medicine brands for N1,500, another brand of same medicine can be as high as N20k!

You go "do pass yourself " and out of ignorance want to place the blame on someone else.

Next time you get to the Pharmacy, tell the Pharmacist that you are not rich and you cannot afford exotic innovative brands.
Do not go there and form to impress the beautiful Pharmacist. You are not rich! Simple wink
You're not a doctor or pharmacist so you have no right to be prescribing alternatives.

Oga, all this grammar... Coartem was N3,500 in 2023 while all the other so called generic you talked about was just N500.

I am glad you used the word "importer".

what currency do importers use to import the products they sell in nigeria and what is the exchange rate for that currency?

what is the impact of the exchange rate on the prices of their products?
I'm not glad you quoted me. I used 'profiteering' right after importer. An opinion not sitting right with you doesn't mean it is not an objective truth.
If everyone had your eventual mindset the drugs that got to us cheap would still be under patent in the western developed world.

Many Nigerians are financial illiterates , in times of economic hardships like this some ordinary folks will still be forming and be rubbing shoulder with the rich instead of adjusting, then go on social media to rant.

There are many cheap ways to treat malaria, one obvious cheap way is to buy insurance, the person that posted that news didn't do health insurance for their staff , yet will come online to grandstand
You Agbadorianists are one funny bunch of people. grin grin

You can even defend Lucifer against God Almighty. Chei.. grin cheesy

The way some Nigerians talk at times is so annoying, so health insurance is cheap? What you don't know, just keep quiet. Call Axa Mansard that you want to do comprehensive (or even basic) health insurance for your staff strength of 20 employees, come back here and share the cost. I believe their minimum is either 20 or 15 persons.

Is a patient supposed to tell you the drug to prescribe?
Lol.

Not usually, but i have patients that when i tell them they have malaria, they insist on a certain drug that ' it works for them'

Also , some patients have things like drug allergies. Like i have had patients who are allergic to this malaria drug , and tell me, so i prescribe what they are not allergic to. I even had one patient who was allergic to most malarial drugs except one. Yep we prescribed it

It's part of what we call patient centered care.

Of course , sometimes i tell patients that this drug works better or is not available, or can be replaced with this drug.

And anyway, if a drug is expensive, there is always generics. HIV meds in Nigeria are for the most part generic. If we got original, it would make many NGO and our health ministry broke to subsidize them and make them free.

Even Malaria drugs that are supposed to have become a product declared free of charge by the federal government after more than half a century of proceeds from crude oil in Nigeria.

Even when the drugs were less than 2k, there were Nigerians that were too poor to afford it just as there were well-to-do Nigerians who could afford the expensive one for 10k back then. Anybody that cannot afford Coartem should go and get Amatem. It's no where close to 10k and it's just as effective
The same Amartem you are telling the poor to buy now will also be so expensive that you will ask them why they are not resorting to "agbo" when the cost of Amartem outpaces their income.

The truth is that a lot of basic necessities that were once affordable for the poor are no longer within their reach. Has there ever been a time when a malaria drug like coartem was considered a luxury? We know which drugs were considered luxuries, and coartem was never one of them.

There will always be people who are poor, but why glorify the fact that more people are slipping into poverty at a faster rate than ever before?

If you're replacing coartem with amartem, how then do we replace eggs, fish, etc? Abi egg sef na luxury?

That's not the point.
The point is, how much was the said drugs 2 years ago?
And what's the percentage increase in it's price just 2 years of the present administration?
In 2023, shortly before this administration came into power, the drug was 3k,but just 2 years into the life of this administration, it's now 10k.
That is more than 300% increment within such short period of time and you still have the mouth to explain unexplainable.
Has your salary where you are working increased by over 300% within the same 2 years?

People like arguing for the point of arguing.
The first comment suggested the common sense option to avoid spending excessively, yet to disprove an adjacent point which is providing another solution, you want to go down a rabbithole that only you would win 😂😂

What exactly do you want ? To prove that drug is expensive and it should stay expensive because if you have a common sense opinion you automatically support the government and you should suffer for it ?

Oga stop campaigning.

I did not vote for apc too, but that person you quoted is right and she is not an apc supporter

The fact is, there are far cheaper versions of coartem. They work just as well as the drug

And if it is still expensive, get registered on NHIS and get your malarial drugs as low as 500 naira or less.

Apc is still useless, but there are ways to ride out this tinubu economy without breaking the bank

Nonsense. Either her staff scammed her, the drug was bought from a pharmacy where things are generally expensive or she is just making this up to trend.

See below. The same Coartem can go for 3,000 or 8400 naira depending on the pharmacy you buy from.

LonART and Lokmal are still less than 4k and these are the most effective malaria medications in the market currently. I don't like Tinubu bought it doesn't mean I shouldn't address a lie even I see it.

Why do we have economic hardship now, instead of the better change promised by ebilokan’s APC in 2015 when he made his clueless and expired northerner Buhari president to replace southerner Jonathan?

Why do we have more extreme poverty paupers in shege banza hardship instead of the greater prosperity of PDP.

How do we get our prosperity back huh

Emergingnation:
Flashback: How Bola Tinubu spoke highly of Buhari in 2015, named PDP ‘Poverty Development Party

National leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu had during the presidential campaign in 2015, referred to President Muhammadu Buhari as the only solution for the security and economic challenges facing Nigeria.

During a mega presidential rally, the former governor of Lagos State recalled how some powerful nations in the world returned to army generals when they were challenged, saying “Major General Buhari would revive Nigeria’s economy”.

He named the current opposition People’s Democratic Party, PDP as the “Poverty Development Party saying they had nothing to offer.

His words at the time were; “Every nation has a period of their own challenges, when America was challenged, they turned to one great man, their ex-military general, General Eisenhower. When the French were challenged, they turned to their general, Charles de Gaulle.

“When Britain was challenged, they turned to their general. Today, Nigeria is economically and physically challenged so we turn to General Muhammadu Buhari. He is the right man for the job. If you talk about military experience, he has it abundantly, he has courage, simplicity, he has it abundantly.

“If you talk about great determination, a combination of vision and ability to perform, honesty and integrity, he has it abundantly.

“I laugh when the incapable government, ‘Poverty Development Party’ PDP were talking. They have nothing again to say, they now want to question the qualifications of General Buhari and look for his certificate”.

Following the manifestos in 2015 which projected the APC presidential candidate as a ‘saviour’, Buhari defeated the then incumbent president, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan with Nigerians expecting a total change in security and economy.
