The Israeli Knesset passed a non-binding resolution on Wednesday, July 2025, calling for the annexation of the West Bank, including Judea, Samaria, and the Jordan Valley. The motion passed with a vote of 71 to 13.

The resolution was jointly introduced by Simcha Rothman of the Religious Zionism party, Dan Illouz of Likud, and Oded Forer of Yisrael Beytenu. Its central message asserts that these territories form an integral part of the historical and cultural homeland of the Jewish people, and therefore should be placed under full Israeli sovereignty

In support of the measure, Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana delivered an emphatic speech, declaring that the Jewish people's connection to the land predates modern political disputes. “The events of 1967 were not an act of occupation but the return of the land to its rightful owners,” he said, referring to Israel’s military capture of the West Bank during the Six-Day War.

Ohana emphasized the deep historical ties between the Jewish people and the region, particularly Judea, which has been home to Jewish communities for over three millennia. “To call Jews occupiers in Judea is a contradiction of history,” he said.

The resolution follows a pattern of legislative momentum within Israel. In 2024, the Knesset rejected a proposal to support a future Palestinian state with a 68–9 vote. While that vote also lacked binding power, it highlighted a significant shift within the Israeli political landscape toward opposing a two-state solution.
The Palestinian Authority condemned the resolution, calling it a violation of international law and an obstacle to peace. In recent years, multiple international bodies, including the United Nations and European Union, have opposed Israeli annexation efforts, citing concerns over the legality and human rights implications.


While annexation remains a deeply divisive and complex issue, the latest vote signals a clear shift in Israeli legislative priorities and foreshadows potential future challenges for the region’s fragile political landscape.
