Lagos Is Getting Worrisomely Weird by Konjiboii(op): 12:06am On Jul 27, 2025
I’m not going to say too much but after leaving Lagos during the election 2023 and recently visited the state , there seem to be a dark cloud or veil in that region, people that where making a living and bad as e bad surviving prior to the elections are now long faced and doing anything and everything just to get a daily bread. Stores and businesses are shutting down , the roads are not as busy as it use to, the streets are empty and every body dey frown, I can’t be the only one witnessing this. While I was there I had never wanted to leave a state as quickly as I did.

Which of the Lagos?
Is it the one I am in or what?

I live in an estate in the mainland, and before 9:00pm everyone don enter house..of course it's an estate...

But then I wouldn't say because my side is this way, then all Lagos are that way...

So it depends on the area

Then darkness over the area..as how nah😂😂...

Then business are shutting down everywhere in Nigeria not just in Lagos..

Don't generalize

He's giving his personal experience. You're not inside him so you can't say what he felt. You've always been in Lagos while he left and came back, which put him in a better position to tell the difference

Lagos na just hype.,nothing more aside that.

Lagos still remains the centre of excellence no matter the economic hardships. For every business that shuts down in Lagos you have at least 10 businesses shutting down elsewhere.

If you look for dark clouds, you will see dark clouds. If you look for brightness and sunshine, you will see brightness and sunshine.

You didn't preach to the OP that generalized for 10million other people in Lagos, but you scolded a guy that limited his experience to his own estate

Thank you, I only shared my experience and the changes I noticed I don’t know why some people will find that offensive in any way, I spent the better part of my teen and youth in Lagos so I am speaking with clear and precise understanding but then again like I said maybe it’s just me noticing this change in the state. There use to be a spark about Lagos but no it’s no longer there, back then you meet a stranger in the street and can banter and gist and make friends with but this days even to people that approach you to want to speak with you just want to tell you about their problems to ask you for help and when you approach someone they feel like you have a motive. Even online you can’t strike a conversation without thinking you are getting scammed or if it’s a lady she wants to hookup . But maybe it’s just me.

This happens everywhere in the country, but it’s more pronounced in Lagos, and why I even made Lagos as emphasis is because I feel whatever is going on in the country shouldn’t affect Lagos that bad that to the point of losing its efizi .people are moving out in droves back to their states or japa.

No, it's not just you at all. But it's not only Lagos either - only in a matter scale, maybe a bit little bit worse here in Lagos

I don't think OP was looking for anything. He just reported differences he felt and observed when he came back

Sad though, ain't it? Businesses shouldn't be shutting down. Those are people's dreams evaporating

Bro same here ... I went back to my area and was shocked .. young friends now doing either agbero work or in the hood smoking colos . The whole area inner city roads are dilapidated . The most stocked up stores now looking more scanty . Young beauty then, now babymamas . Most younglings are either doing pos , shuttle driving , hair or nail tech or making shawarma . Even school field to train for football or boxing, you'll have to pay to the council . Insecurity is on the rise from thieves , every street now has a gate either wooden or corrugated iron for security purpose . Coupled with the drainage smell and mosquitoes . Mhen I had to run from lagos

You get it, it is alarming and should raise concern

Its called an economic downturn. When people lose their source of livelihood or can no longer afford to pay for their daily living expenses then you will see what you observed as the feel good factor that comes with being financially buoyant has disappeared and people are struggling under the cost of living crisis and its a saving factor that we are over-religious in Nigeria or else people will be topping themselves right left and centre in a country where there are no safety nets to catch anyone who can not afford to feed, clothe or house themselves.

I hope the universe makes a way for we Nigerians to get out of this bondage foisted upon ALL of us by Nigeria's corrupt politicians.
