That "morning breath" has a simple explanation

1. Less saliva at night
While sleeping, your mouth makes less saliva.
Saliva helps wash away food and bacteria, so without it, germs multiply.

2. Bacteria release bad-smelling gases
These bacteria break down food and dead cells, releasing sulfur compounds that smell bad.

3. Mouth breathing or snoring makes it worse
It dries your mouth more, allowing bacteria to grow freely.

- Brush and floss before bed
- Scrape your tongue
- Stay hydrated
- Avoid smoking and late-night sugary snacks
