ADC Spokesman: Why No Governor Is Willing To Join Our Coalition by Islie(op): 10:18am On Jul 27, 2025
Malam Bolaji Abdullahi, National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), says no governor is willing to join the coalition because of the alleged intimidation by the Federal Government.

Abdullahi said this at the third plenary session of the Northern Political Consultative Group (NPCG), in Abuja, on Saturday.

At the programme which had as its theme: ‘Peace and social cohesion: A panacea to challenges of the North’, Abdullahi said the ADC remains open to everyone.

“No serving governor would be willing to cross over because of the intimidation that they are facing,” he said.

“We know what they are doing to them. Some of them who cannot jump to their party are saying we are endorsing their presidential candidate. No problem. But what you are seeing is a conspiracy against the Nigerian people.

“The ADC welcomes everybody, but we are convinced that we are a movement that has the backing of the majority of Nigerians who are not happy with the direction this country is going.”

On the 2027 Presidential Candidate, he said the ADC has not entered into any discussions about who will emerge.

“We don’t have any favourite aspirants or candidates. We are not having any conversation at the moment,” he said.

“Nobody has ever had any conversation about who will be the party’s flag bearer. We believe that it is too early in the day. Our focus now is to build a political party that is strong enough to deliver on the mission that we have set for ourselves.”

Earlier, Babachir David Lawal, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, who is also a member of the coalition, had said the ADC would rally round anyone who wins its presidential ticket.

“The ADC as a political party is a party that is founded on democratic principles. We are going to conduct congresses and conventions to elect our representatives at the election. And whoever emerges—be it North, South, Central, West—whoever emerges at either the congresses or at the convention, ADC will support it, and the Northern Political Consultative Group will support that decision.”

So far, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, former presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, former governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, have indicated interest in the ADC presidential ticket.

The coalition has vowed to use every lawful means to unseat President Bola Tinubu, but dismissing their threat, Tinubu described the group as a “Coalition of confusion”.

Without Governor, Senate, HoR and others, Peter Obi won. So they should focus more on the electorate and leave the governors who can only influence his household.

Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers state and Governor Adeleke of Osun State with his withheld local government allocations will beg to differ with you. Even Governor Sheriff of Delta and his Godfather Okowa with the EFCC Sword of Damocles hanging over his head will beg to differ with you. Ex-Governor Yahaya Bello, the new born-again will beg to differ with you. But the APC should remember that you can't force people to like you. You can't buy love and neither can you copy respect.

And in the North where Atiku and El-Rufai come from, why are the Govs not joining yet?

Were their allocations withheld too?

Politics isn't played that way.. you packed a group of political retirees to a party and termed it "coalition" to remove an active politician.
That's complete waste of time and I'm sure not a single Governor among the 36 we have in Nigeria will dream of joining such a movement. Past should stay in the past abeg.

No governor wants to join Atiku's Destructive Contraption (ADC) because they all know it is heading for collapse. I watched the Adamawa state governor, Ahmadu Fintiri warning every member of his PDP not to have anything to do with the ADC. That's is Atiku's own state o.

Why are you and Tinubu obsessed with attracting Governors while alienating the people? Below are the list of APC governors and politicians that couldn’t deliver Tinubu in 2023. I just hope you all will wake and smell the coffee before its too late.

Re: ADC Spokesman: Why No Governor Is Willing To Join Our Coalition by emkz: 11:10am On Jul 27, 2025
Has Atiku officially joined/registered in his coalition?

Has El Rufai registered in the coalition?

Has Peter Obi joined their coalition?

Even Ireti Kingibe who claimed to have defected has not dared make the announcement on the floor of the senate. If she reverses her defection, she'd have been shown to lack the stability for political representation.

Those championing coalition are not even convinced of their coalition. Yet, they want serious-minded folks to jump into their experiment which their behaviour demonstrates has a high probability of failure of the coalition.

Deep down, the coalition promoters are afraid of their experiment. They are not solid risk-takers willing to throw their hats into the ring.

It is a clear demonstration that governors see the coalition as the coming together of yesterday's men who lost out in the political engineering of 2023.

🤣🤣🤣 Who wants to jump into a bottomless pit and be damned for all time ? The governors have seen the deceit and sorcery inherent in the demonic coalition....why won't they run 440 ?

nobody appeared to campaign 4 GEJ more than the north remember what they did to him last last ....even his appointed INEC chairman. The north is ruthless ooo ask survivors of religious violence about how their childhood friends turned on them and bayed for their innocent blood.
Re: ADC Spokesman: Why No Governor Is Willing To Join Our Coalition by richiemcgold:
What intimidation is this man talking about? Those governors that dumped Jonathan and PDP in 2014, were they not intimidated by Jonathan's federal government? Did that stop them from joining APC?

The actual fact is that no sensible governor at this moment will dump his party for ADC. A party that is struggling to get a sure footing can't be attractive to any governor. That's it.

Even the major founding fathers of the coalition are yet to officially join ADC -- Atiku as of today has not officially joined. Mr Peter Obi has not officially joined. El Rufai has not officially joined. And you want sitting governors to join, you dey whine?

Your comment is illogical. It would have made sense, if you had to referred to either Atiku or Obi. Asiwaju won his election as an ordinary citizen, despite the fact that all the people you mentioned couldn't deliver their states to him. I can as well mention politicians who couldn’t deliver for Atiku in the States where President Tinubu emerged victorious in 2023. Tinubu will not only win in 2027, he will have more votes than he had in 2023. The only difference is he may have lesser figures from the North West and some parts of North East, but he will do better in North Central and South South. He will also have impressive scores in Southern Kaduna and some Christian communities in the North, especially North West. You can bookmark this comment.

Be specific, is it by forging results, snatching ballot boxes or by vote buying?

The governors have no reason to join a coalition of crooks. The allocation they receive from the federal is crazy when compared to what they used to receive. Tinubu gives them listening ears and support regardless of party affiliation
